I Am Your Natural Enemy

Pei Tugou’s baleful aura was so intense that even the Fourth Great-uncle Master felt it hindered his cultivation as soon as he drew near. At this moment, afraid that the Great Killer Star might not fully understand, the Fourth Great-uncle Master explained in even greater detail.

”I wasn’t all that clear myself before, but after seeing him with my own eyes, a lot became clear.

He, under the guise of a Temple Keeper, erected a temple for a Statue Ghost, offering it incense and candlelight.

That Statue Ghost then gained a choice, to become an idol and pick a path.

But unfortunately, that Statue Ghost was too greedy, and unsurprisingly, it chose to become a Jinx.

Yet the Jinx is also a proper deity, not some evil spirit that devours others’ fortune.

So the Statue Ghost made use of this, using the Evil Path, rapidly took shape, and completed both the dirtying ritual and opened its eyes.

Like this, it gained the power to impart teaching.

It then granted the empowerment to this Taoist, who would otherwise never have been qualified for it.

What they did was to steal the power of the righteous deities and use it for evil, and of all things, with the Jinx.

So if anything goes wrong, they’re bound to suffer backlash.

Now, the Statue Ghost’s spiritual sense has been wiped out, leaving only the body behind.

And this man...”

The Fourth Great-uncle Master’s eyes shone with a piercing light, staring at the abandoned Zhongnan disciple as though seeing straight through to his true nature.

His whole body was covered in snakeskin, all the organs emptied out and replaced with the Statue Ghost’s filthy organs, and his head had become a giant serpent’s head.

”He used evil magic to burn up every last bit of fortune, power, and life belonging to both himself and the Statue Ghost.

I don’t know exactly what final secret technique he had prepared.

But I can be certain of one thing: it will erupt the instant he dies.

Judging from his current condition, whatever secret technique he has readied can’t be anything normal.

Considering his talisman, and the Statue Ghost, I estimate there’s an eighty percent chance it’s evil magic meant to ruin people’s fortune.

If he dies here, everyone in the vicinity will be affected.

This place will become an ill-omened land as well.

Your baleful aura is so heavy, you may not have anything to fear—but everyone you’re connected to...

Your children, your loved ones, will all be invisibly affected.

He’s basically a misfortune bomb now, and once he dies, it’ll explode.

Whoever kills him will be the one stuck with the majority of it.

The worst result? A lifetime of loneliness, cursing your parents, your spouse, your children to suffering.

A life of endless calamity—every plant you raise, dies; live in a building, it gets flooded; anything unlucky can and will happen to you.

If all the consequences are shouldered by a single person, you become the nine-generations-of-bad-luck wretch from the old tales.

Meaning you’ll keep getting hit with disasters for nine whole lifetimes before it’s done.

Do you understand what I mean now?”

The Fourth Great-uncle Master kept his distance, patiently explaining to Pei Tugou.

Fortunately, Pei Tugou was much more reasonable these days. Since the Fourth Great-uncle Master was an elder of Wen Yan, highly learned, and even a university graduate from decades past, Pei Tugou treated him with respect.

Pei Tugou looked down at the abandoned Zhongnan disciple being dragged along. His expression remained calm as ever, his aura almost more dead than alive, not struggling in the least as the Blood Rope lassoed his neck.

The Fourth Great-uncle Master saw that Pei Tugou hadn’t continued upward, just stood across a pillar in thought, and quietly let out a breath.

Actually, there was something he hadn’t said: by his reckoning, this abandoned Zhongnan disciple was truly gifted, but had been cast out years ago.

Since the abandoned disciple came seeking revenge on Wen Yan, if he failed to get it, then it would all lose meaning for him.

This final spell—its target was sure to be Wen Yan.

The disciple knew that as long as he made it here and died at the hands of the Great Killer Star in the forbidden zone, he’d inevitably be hung from a street lamp.

And he’d thoughtfully scooped out every last organ, no longer resembling a man, so his corpse hung up there couldn’t possibly rot.

So, if we think along those lines, the aim is to die here, leaving nothing but a corpse suspended from the lamp.

In that form, waiting for Wen Yan to appear.

This is Wen Yan’s family home. No matter what, Wen Yan will have to show up here.

And as soon as she does, the final secret technique will be triggered, and there’s no way Wen Yan can dodge it.

Besides, here—out of care for her family—Wen Yan is sure to stand in front and take it, not hide.

The Fourth Great-uncle Master figured there might be a few variables in this process, but as for the part about targeting Wen Yan, there could be no doubt.

For the disciple to die at the hands of the Great Killer Star now—that’s an expected ending.

No matter what, we absolutely must not kill this man now.

The blood flowing from the Bloody Robe on Pei Tugou grew heavier, puddling at his feet, his eyes tinged red, the killing aura and baleful aura on his body growing still stronger.

He more or less understood the Fourth Great-uncle Master’s words, realized why this Taoist wanted so desperately to die at his hands—so he’d drop dead on their doorstep.

If he really did it, he’d be falling right into the trap.

He also more or less understood why the Scorching Sun Department had already secretly relocated everyone in the villa area the day before, even the ghost living behind Wen Yan’s house.

And just minutes ago, word had come—the Scorching Sun Department’s Virtue City patrol was already seeing people struck by sudden misfortune, so they knew the target was near and warned them in advance.

Because the man before them was like a pile of shit waiting to explode—whoever got any on them was doomed to tragic luck.

And his slaughter, right now, couldn’t solve a thing.

The baleful aura on him grew heavier and heavier, his breath turning ragged, tendrils of bloody mist starting to rise off his body.

The Fourth Great-uncle Master silently took a few steps back, worry in his eyes: Oh no, this one is about to lose control to his killing intent.
