I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 523: Chapter 210 Almost Succeeded, Would Not Die Content Without A Glance (5k)_3

Wen Yan held his breath, his face growing pale.

Your fate is already sealed, destined for a miserable end.

Do you want to change your fate?

If you change your fate, you can escape the original, tragic conclusion.

Suddenly, Wen Yan took a deep breath; the scene as real as being inside it dissolved like wind-blown smoke.

He looked up; the statue had already closed its eyes. Checking the time, sure enough, it was sunrise.

And now, looking again at the closed-eyed statue, there were no new prompts, just like staring at a dead object.

Wen Yan didn’t rush to leave. He took a sip of water and began reviewing everything.

First, when this guy tries to confuse people, it couldn’t make someone see things they’d never seen before.

He had never actually seen the Giant Water Monkey’s true body, just its pair of golden eyes.

So what he’d just seen were all blurry images; only those eyes were terribly real.

Of course, there’s another possibility.

This Statue Ghost might not even dare to conjure up a clear image of some of those truly terrifying beings.

Second point: this thing disappears at sunrise.

After a few confirmations, Wen Yan could almost be sure: the statue here is just a statue until it opens its eyes.

Only when its eyes are open is it a Statue Ghost.

He had received clues before: Statue Ghost is one of the rare Nether Souls that truly possess a physical body.

It’s not a simple Nether Soul—no matter what its body is, it has a real one.

Not a body condensed from nether essence.

Plus, it left before sunrise today.

This led Wen Yan to a bold conclusion.

This thing might be a player too.

Because up to now, the only way to enter and leave the Netherworld at will like this is available to players.

Something that touches on the core of the Netherworld—Wen Yan didn’t believe a mere Statue Ghost could change it.

Each major alteration of the Netherworld is recorded by the Scorching Sun Department.

Though the Scorching Sun Department can’t monitor the Netherworld, they have the Doomsday Computer; every update to the game on it is meticulously documented.

How long since the update, and when it happened—accurate to milliseconds.

At least before Wen Yan arrived, he’d never heard of an update he didn’t know about.

He entered the ruined temple, staring at the decaying statue. Now, there were fewer decayed spots than before.

He was starting to get it.

This guy, in order to completely evade surveillance, actually does his advancement inside the Netherworld, hiding all his forbidden entities and power there.

So he’s not at all worried about anyone discovering what he’s up to.

Leveraging a player identity to go in and out of the Netherworld—really, what he’s cultivating is his true body in the Netherworld. His physical self in the current world is just a public decoy, a front to dodge all sorts of monitoring and scrutiny.

Even if someone noticed, they wouldn’t think twice.

Heh, that’s quite something—even if there’s nothing in the Netherworld, its existence alone gives these people room to play all kinds of tricks.

Wen Yan felt he ought to revise his old impression of the Netherworld; he was too naive, too shortsighted.

The Netherworld’s existence, that’s the biggest meaning—even if there’s not a single hair inside, many things still change.

Still, that’s fine.

He’d seen the hint before, that the other had a body, and honestly, he’d been worried he’d just be detonating loneliness if he pulled the trigger.

Now it’s fine; this is the main body. That settles things.

He dragged over a bullet, took advantage of daylight, climbed up the altar, and painstakingly lifted up the statue bit by bit. Sure enough, the inside was hollow.

It looked like it ought to weigh tons, but actually it wasn’t that heavy.

He peered inside: a jumble of stuff—five-colored thread, some Scripture Scrolls, straw, all kinds of random things.

He grinned, and after a moment’s thought, decided to play it safe: he switched out a Jade Pendant, empowered it with a massive amount of Yang Energy—right up to the limit—and stuffed it into the hollow inside the statue.

Bringing the bullet with him, he left. Night fell.

The Statue Ghost descended, opened its eyes, and immediately sensed something burning with fierce Yang Energy in its belly.

It was unbothered. It wasn’t an ordinary Ghost; this kind of thing didn’t matter at all—it just had to maintain statue state to be totally unfazed. In fact, among its ritual objects, there already had to be things imbued with Yang Energy.

At the usual hour, half an hour before sunrise, Wen Yan showed up punctually at the door.

Half an hour later, the Statue Ghost left. Wen Yan let out a long breath.

He was starting to think this thing was tough; its bewitching power kept growing.

Today he even saw the Sparrow Cat die, Chen Qimo die, the Little Zombie die, Pei Tugou die—even his own son died...

Too real—he’d almost failed to keep a grip on reality.

Good thing: once sunrise hit, the opponent had to piss off.

He lifted the statue, confirmed the contents hadn’t been tampered with, pocketed the Jade Stone, and replaced it with the bullet.

Then he activated the Scorching Sun Jade, granting the bullet all the Yang Energy he could—this was the most serious he’d ever been about bestowing Yang Energy, making sure it suffused every last corner of the bullet.

After half an hour, he came to try again, stacking even more on top, pushing his limits, damn near overkilling it with Yang Energy.

Before dark, he triple-checked the timing down to the second.

He opened a small cap on the bullet, punched in the password ”6666,” then set a timer for the window he’d always appeared the past few days.

He figured, after how close he came to slipping yesterday, with such heavy investment to lure it in, there was no way the Statue Ghost could resist showing up right on time today.

The Statue Ghost descended again, feeling even more terrifying Yang Energy in its belly—scarily strong.

It still didn’t care; as long as it didn’t change form, Yang Energy couldn’t hurt it at all—if anything, it was extra blessing.

As time ticked down, the Statue Ghost was actually a little excited—because yesterday, it was so so close, just a little more, and it would have succeeded.

Meanwhile, to the north on the mountain range, Wen Yan stood atop the peak, watching the countdown on his phone.

He couldn’t help but count down aloud.

”Three... two... one...”

The next moment, he looked up, and in the Netherworld, the mists seemed to collapse all at once.

In the distant darkness, it was as if a Great Sun erupted, bursting forth in tyrannical brilliance, skipping any rising process and simply forcing its full power into the world.

Dazzling rays of light, unstoppable, carved a path through a hundred li of darkness.

The mist that once obscured everything was torn to shreds in an instant.

Wen Yan, glasses on, stared a hundred li away—yet not even a second passed before tears began streaming down his cheeks.

He felt as if his eyes were going blind, his tear ducts surging in desperate rescue...

He knew it might be dangerous, but still had to look.

If he didn’t see it with his own eyes, he felt that even if he’d died, he’d claw his way out of the coffin, yelling about missing out.

Even for a single split second, he saw it.

Saw a Great Sun, bursting forth—now he knew what dazzling really meant.

In his mind, that never-falling morning sun seemed to sense the true Great Sun’s brilliance, and finally began to slowly rise on the horizon.
