The Darling of Heaven Owns a Rip-off Shop

”What about mine?” Tianmiao asked.

”You’re naturally beautiful, just look at your skin—fair and delicate, no visible pores. I’m scared the chemicals in face masks would ruin your face,” Han Ting glared at Tianmiao, ”Every time I see your skin, it just makes me so envious.”

”Such a lame excuse, you’re just stingy.” Tianmiao rolled her eyes in return.

”I can’t agree with that. Look, I’m using her face mask,” Huang Shiyuan quickly chimed in, ”But I do agree with what Han Ting said. I think you can save a lot on skincare products each year. Some people make others envious for being naturally beautiful yet they don’t even realize it themselves.”

”Exactly, exactly.” Han Ting glared again, ”How would a fairy know the worries of us mere mortals? You have no idea how jealous we common folk are.”

”I can’t win against you guys,” Tianmiao scoffed, but in her heart, she was smiling. Interacting with these lively and adorable kids sometimes made her unconsciously relax, which felt pretty good.

Zhang Mengfei sneaked a glance at the face mask Han Ting took out. It was all in English, and she couldn’t read it. But she had seen that logo before; it probably wasn’t cheap. Masks... she had never used one. She instinctively touched her face—rough skin, slightly yellowish complexion. Back in the village, they called her naturally beautiful, but hearing Han Ting praise Tianmiao as naturally beautiful suddenly felt like a huge joke. A comparison between genuine products and knockoffs? She was that pitiful knockoff.

Zhang Mengfei closed her book, wondering if she should start taking care of herself too.

She glanced at her new phone. This smartphone was something she bought last week with the last of her money. A month’s living allowance was too low; after eating, phone bills, buying some books, and paying class fees, there was hardly anything left. She knew her family was doing their best to give her enough money. Perhaps she should find a way to earn some money?

Do some tutoring? Part-time work? Or work-study programs?

She wasn’t confident she could teach well as a tutor, and it seemed hard to find short-term work.

Absolutely no to work-study, it was too embarrassing. She had seen some work-study students helping with cleaning in the library or dining hall, and every time she saw that, she felt those students were somehow inferior. She didn’t want to do that.

Otherwise, maybe find a suitable hourly job?

Tianmiao glanced at Zhang Mengfei, thinking that this kid’s mind hadn’t gone completely astray yet. She wondered if it could be turned around.

Tianmiao had absolute confidence in many things, but when it came to people’s hearts, she couldn’t see through them or grasp them.

”Zhang Mengfei,” Tianmiao suddenly spoke up.

”Ah, what?” Zhang Mengfei snapped back to reality, looking at Tianmiao with confusion.

”Tomorrow’s Friday. After class, why don’t we grab a meal together? My relative opened a snack bar on the school street and gave me free vouchers for the grand opening. It won’t cost anything, so wanna go check it out?” Tianmiao still wanted to give this kid a hand.

Zhang Mengfei hesitated for a moment, not speaking.

”Let’s go together, it’s free. Let’s enjoy it,” Huang Shiyuan, seeing Zhang Mengfei’s hesitation, also urged.

”Yeah, it’s free anyway, and we have nothing after class on Friday afternoon. Let’s eat together. We haven’t gotten together as a dorm yet,” Han Ting joined in.
