Reborn and Counterattack: The CEO's Powerful Sweetheart

Chapter 1218: Chapter 1217: Damn! These Bastards

The village chief was still sensible. When the villagers couldn’t find the tomb robbers, he promptly decided to have some villagers return to strengthen the defense of the tomb, to prevent the tomb robbers from returning and leaving the tomb unattended.

”Damn! These bastards actually have the guts, just watch me take them out!” Another villager, who was more hot-tempered, loaded his hunting equipment and rushed vigilantly towards the tomb.

...

Someone’s coming!

Inside the tomb, Gu Tong and Xia Xi were startled.

Their emotions were stirred, and their hearts were in suspense, neither up nor down.

So close, with the villagers about to charge over, what should they do...

Gu Tong didn’t hide but quickened her movements.

Red horse to three!

This is the second-to-last step!

...

’Clunk, clunk--’

The footsteps were getting closer, just a step away, just a hair’s breadth.

With their keen hearing, they dared to say that in three seconds, the villagers would reach the tomb.

...

They had to go for it!

Black horse to seven.

Gu Tong made one final move.

She involuntarily stepped back.

This wasn’t out of fear, but instinctive caution.

The stone slab began to retract, the finger-sized gap getting smaller.

Finally, with a ’click’, it fit together seamlessly!

...

”Who, who!”

A villager rushed over, holding the hunting equipment, fiercely searching the source of the sound, eager to dig out the culprit.

However...

Only heard the sound, could not see the person!

Other than graves, there was nothing else here.

”What’s going on?” Another villager arrived and asked, ”What just made that noise?” Even from afar, he heard it...

”I don’t know what’s going on. I just heard a sound here by the tomb, but when I got here, there was nothing. It’s really damn spooky.” The villager scratched his head, walked around the tomb once, hearing only the swishing of rain on the tomb, nothing else, which gave him an eerie feeling. He said, ”Do you think the tomb robbers disturbed the body inside, and it’s showing itself because it’s unhappy?”

What just happened was too supernatural, there seemed to be no other explanation besides something paranormal.

The other villager frowned, ”It’s the middle of the night, don’t talk about all that spooky stuff. We’re here to protect the grave, not disturb it, it won’t blame us. Just guarding the tomb is better than anything!”

Talking about such things at night was quite chilling, giving a shuddering feeling.

They grew up hearing many legends of the dead coming back to life.

The events unfolding before them inevitably frightened them...

They were the two guarding the tomb, where the atmosphere was already heavy, no need to worry about anything else, just turning a blind eye to it all was easier.

The villager muttered to himself, but still agreed, saying, ”Alright, fine.”

After all, in the dead of night, they were still a bit afraid...

...

Time passed, and gradually the footsteps outside grew distant.

Gu Tong leaned against the wall, letting out a breath of relief. Luckily, they made it on time.

It was truly a race against time. If they were even a bit slower, the mechanism would have aimed right at her head!

Xia Xi sped over in a few quick steps, ”Are you alright?”

She was holding a flashlight, which was set to the brightest setting.

Since the stone slab was tightly shut, there was no need to worry about being discovered from outside.

After all, the design was airtight, no chance anyone outside could see any light.
