Reborn and Counterattack: The CEO's Powerful Sweetheart

Chapter 1212: Chapter 1211: Someone’s Here!

Gu Tong’s mouth twitched twice, and she simply stopped paying attention to this infuriating Xia Xi.

Instead, she focused all her attention on cracking the puzzle!

She traced with her finger in her palm, brows tightly furrowed, slowly starting to dissect the answer.

”Thunk—” Not far away, footsteps stepped onto the stone steps.

Someone!

Gu Tong’s heart tightened, and Xia Xi’s eyes widened.

At the same time, they reacted on instinct, darting behind a nearby boulder. From this spot they were already very close to the guard’s house, but the sound had come from the other side; they still had to prioritize avoiding the danger that was closing in.

In the night, they could only make out vague shadows and the faintest trace of footsteps.

The sound was very soft, but they could be sure there were quite a few of them.

In Xia Xi’s palm, Gu Tong wrote a cross, her guess at the other side’s numbers.

More than ten people! A conservative estimate.

Very likely the same group from the train earlier.

As expected, Xia Xi’s move this time had alerted others; anyone with an agenda was watching.

The group walked up the stone steps one after another, heading toward the tombstones. They stood before the eight tombstones and started studying the writing on them.

A man’s muffled voice, low: ”Anything?”

The others seemed to be searching for something. After glancing around at each other, they shook their heads and said, ”No!”

”Damn! She clearly headed for Yanggou Village, how come she’s nowhere to be found in or out of the village!” The man cursed, then said, ”This is her destination. She’ll definitely show up here.”

”Boss, but the people in the village are watching closely. We can’t just camp here...” another man said, sounding troubled, clearly worrying over it.

Waiting for the rabbit to run into the tree stump wasn’t the hard part; the problem was they couldn’t stand guard here, and their target was ridiculously crafty.

If something unexpected happened, it would be a huge pain.

...

Their voices weren’t loud.

But Xia Xi and Gu Tong could still hear them. They exchanged a glance, each reading the question in the other’s eyes.

Gu Tong was the first to move. She pointed off into the distance, then pointed at Xia Xi and herself.

Meaning: ”We’re their target. They’re very likely going to search!”

Xia Xi nodded, pointed at them, then pointed at the house.

Meaning: ”They want to wait for the rabbit; why don’t we lure the snake out of its hole!”

If they were the cicada being stalked by the mantis, then let there be a yellow sparrow behind.

They were treating Xia Xi as the mantis, so Xia Xi would use the villagers as the yellow sparrow.

Expose their position and buy themselves time.

If the villagers could get rid of this group hunting Trainees, that would be the perfect stopgap solution.

Gu Tong understood, and gestured an OK sign!

The wooden house was only a step away from them. They slowly shifted until they were beneath the house, hiding under the window.

From inside the window came a faint light and soft snores. At this hour, only a loud noise would wake the village brothers inside.

Gu Tong frowned, made a shushing gesture, then raised her hand and pulled out a length of stiff rope, and flung it hard.

”Clack—” The rope looped around the door.

Gu Tong gave it a hard yank, pulling the rope back.

As the rope was reeled in, the wooden door was dragged open by the force.

”Creak—”

...

The older brother on the bed jolted upright. His eyes bulged as he stared at the opening door and shouted, ”Who’s there!”
