Reborn and Counterattack: The CEO's Powerful Sweetheart

Chapter 1210: Chapter 1209: Why Doesn’t He Ascend to Heaven?

Going inside to take shelter from the rain is indeed a good idea.

It’s better than being exposed to the wind and rain outside; getting the cotton-padded jacket wet would be too uncomfortable. Besides, this is due to unexpected weather changes, an objective reason. Even if the village chief asks later, they would have a reasonable answer.

The villagers under the willow tree agreed with this suggestion, saying, ”Alright then, while the rain hasn’t gotten heavy, let’s hurry inside.”

He was truly fed up and did not want to face the cold wind and rain anymore.

The little house would be warmer after all, and they could even light a stove to warm their hands. The brothers could comfortably sleep through the night. Although it’s not exactly cozy or pleasant, getting through the night is good enough.

The villagers have all faced hardships; they don’t have grander expectations and only wish to stay away from the wind and rain, completing their night of tomb-guarding duty.

”Let’s go, let’s go...”

The brothers urged each other forward, protecting the lamps in their arms from being extinguished by the heavy rain. Without them, they would need to use flint to relight, which would be a much bigger hassle.

...

The brothers jogged along, their steps somewhat hurried.

Gu Tong and Xia Xi lay on the ground, able to clearly hear these sounds.

The gradually fading footsteps of the brothers were a signal, unspoken, that action could now be taken!

Xia Xi slightly arched her body, gesturing towards her mouth and moving her lips soundlessly, ”Three o’clock direction, follow closely!”

A rare opportunity due to the downpour; they must seize it lest they miss a golden chance.

Gu Tong understood and didn’t say more, letting Xia Xi guide the way.

Xia Xi turned over, hiding in another part of the bushes. Once she confirmed there was no danger, she concealed herself in the darkness, moving stealthily, bringing Gu Tong forward noiselessly.

This might be the tacit understanding developed through years of fighting together. They knew each other’s every move without a word and followed closely, stepping in each other’s footprints.

Luckily, the forest here was dense, and with the two brothers scouting ahead, they didn’t worry about being exposed come morning.

By then, even if extra footprints were seen, the villagers would assume they were left by the brothers during their night patrol.

’Thud--’

Xia Xi was the first to step into the grave area, treading on the grey-black stone slab, and pointed to the right.

The distance was not accurate; Gu Tong couldn’t gauge it visually, but she knew this was the grave Xia Xi referred to.

Xia Xi had mentioned that she had bought this grave, intended for the old man, and it was the only grave purchased then, so all focus was on this spot.

Gu Tong carefully followed Xia Xi, taking advantage of the faint moonlight to glance at the ground. Though the true color was indistinct, she could feel it was quite clean.

After all, it was raining; if the ground were dirty with mud, it would undoubtedly be slippery.

Gu Tong speculated based on experience!

The journey took about three minutes, even as they dared not move too hastily.

Xia Xi finally paused beside a tomb, crouching down almost low enough to stick to the ground, whispering, ”This is it!”

Gu Tong covered the remaining steps in two strides, crouched down, pulled out a flashlight from her boot, and set the light to its dimmest setting, shining it on the tombstone.

’Fire, Bag!’ The tombstone bore two big characters.

Gu Tong’s lips twitched twice, ”...” What the heck does ’Fire Bag’ mean...

Old man, what do you mean preparing this grave for yourself, it seems more like preparation to return from the dead...

Fire Bag...

Why doesn’t he just ascend to the heavens...
