Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Enhancement

ARCADIA GENERAL HOSPITAL - NEXT MORNING

Dr. Reeves came in at 7 AM with final test results.

”Everything looks good, Mr. Starr. No signs of neurological damage, no hidden complications. You’re cleared for discharge.” She made notes on her tablet. ”Take it easy for a few days. If you experience any headaches, dizziness, or unusual symptoms, come back immediately.”

”Understood.”

”Your mother is in the waiting room. The nurse will bring discharge papers.”

Twenty minutes later, Orion walked out of the hospital with Cassia. The morning sun was bright over New Eden’s towers. Delivery drones zipped overhead. The city pulsed with its usual energy.

”I took the day off work,” Cassia said as they walked to the transit hub. ”I want to make sure you’re really okay.”

”Mom, I’m fine.”

”I know I was just worried—” Her voice caught. ”I thought I’d lost you.”

He hugged her. ”I’m here. I’m alive. I promise I’m okay.”

The transit ride home was quiet. Cassia kept glancing at him like he might disappear.

They reached their apartment building in Residential Sector 7. Mid-tier housing, clean and well-maintained. It was Home.

”I’m making lunch,” Cassia said once they were inside. ”Then you’re resting. Doctor’s orders.”

”Actually, I need to lie down now. Still feeling a bit tired from everything.”

That was a lie. He felt fine. But he needed privacy.

”Of course. Go rest. I’ll wake you for lunch.”

Orion went to his room and closed the door. Sat on his bed and took a deep breath.

Time to find out what these enhancements actually did.

He pulled up the system interface with a mental command.

That was a fucking cultivation technique, who didn’t want to have powers like those MC in the novels he read.

ENHANCEMENT COMMENCING

BRAIN ENHANCEMENT: 1%... 2%...

The changes started immediately.

And pain came along.

His neurons began firing faster. Synapses connecting in new patterns. His brain was rewiring itself, expanding its capacity in ways that shouldn’t be possible.

Memories surfaced with perfect clarity. Kindergarten lessons. Elementary mathematics. High school physics. Every college lecture he’d attended. Everything he’d ever learned cascaded through his mind, reorganizing into crystalline structures of accessible knowledge.

His thoughts accelerated. He could feel comprehension deepening. Concepts that had seemed complex before became transparent. It was like his mind had been running through fog and someone had cleared it away completely.

10%... 15%... 20%...

His body started changing too. Muscles tensed and relaxed, fibers restructuring themselves. His bones felt denser. His heart beat stronger, pumping blood with perfect efficiency. Every cell was optimizing.

Strength flooded through him. His arms felt like they could lift twice what they used to. His legs like they could sprint for hours.

His senses sharpened dramatically. He could see individual dust particles floating in the sunlight. Could count the threads in his bedsheets. Could hear his mother moving around in the kitchen downstairs—the water running, her breathing pattern, the soft clink of dishes.

He could hear the neighbor’s television three apartments down. Someone’s music playing five floors up. Individual conversations from the street outside.

His enhanced brain processed it all effortlessly. Each sound catalogued, each visual detail noted and filed. No overwhelming sensory overload—just perfect, efficient processing.

25%... 30%...

Now the pain increased to dozens of levels higher .

His skull felt like it was expanding to accommodate his growing brain. His muscles burned as they rebuilt themselves at the cellular level. Every nerve screamed. Even some obscure knowledge started to pour in his brain.

40%... 50%... 60%...

He gripped his bedsheets, trying not to cry out. Couldn’t let his mother hear. She’d panic, call the hospital, make everything much more complicated.

His brain was on fire. His body was tearing apart and rebuilding. Every second felt like an eternity.

80%... 90%... 95%...

Then it finished.

BREATHING TECHNIQUE: UPLOADED

Orion lay back on his bed, breathing hard.

Everything was different.

The world had exploded into clarity. He could see details he’d never noticed before—microscopic imperfections in the ceiling paint, the exact texture of the wall panels, the subtle variations in the artificial wood grain of his desk.

His hearing picked up everything. His mother’s heartbeat downstairs. The electrical hum from the wall panels. The maglev trains running overhead kilometers away. His brain sorted and processed every input without effort.

His body felt incredible. He lifted one hand experimentally. It moved with perfect precision. He could control individual muscle groups with conscious thought.

He stood up. Walked to his desk. Lifted it with one hand.

The desk weighed maybe sixty kilograms. Before the enhancement, he would’ve struggled with two hands. Now he could hold it steady with one arm without straining.

He set it down carefully, quietly. Tested his reflexes by throwing a pen—his hand moved before he consciously decided to move it, snatching the pen from the air with inhuman speed.

”This is insane,” he whispered.

New information surfaced in his mind. The breathing technique, uploaded during enhancement.

FOUNDATION CIRCULATION METHOD

A systematic pattern for controlling respiration and circulation to extract exotic energy from normal matter.

Orion Immediately settled on his bed and tried it.

He was very excited, this was a real cultivation technique.

Breathe in slowly through the nose. His lungs pulled in oxygen—normal oxygen, the same stuff everyone breathed. But the technique did something different with it.

He could feel it now with his enhanced body awareness. All matter contained energy. Everything in the universe, from stars to dirt to air itself, held tiny amounts of exotic energy. Most people breathed normally and let it pass right through them.

The Foundation Circulation Method extracted it.

Each inhale brought oxygen into his lungs. The technique separated out microscopic exotic energy particles mixed in with the oxygen molecules. Drew them into his bloodstream. Circulated them through his body. Used them to strengthen his cells bit by bit.

It was like panning for gold. Air was the river. The technique was the pan. The exotic energy was gold dust mixed in the water—barely there, but real.

Hold. The exotic energy circulated through his blood, strengthening his cells.

Exhale.

Something dark came out with his breath. Like smoke but not smoke. Cellular waste being expelled as the exotic energy refined his system.

His body was purging impurities. Years of accumulated cellular garbage, metabolic waste, toxins. All being expelled with each breath cycle.

Each breath made him fractionally stronger. It wasn’t dramatic—no glowing lights or mystical phenomena. Just pure biological optimization.

But it was constant. Each breath improving him. Making him more.

Orion kept breathing. The pattern became natural. His heart rate slowed to an efficient forty beats per minute. His mind cleared even further.

An hour passed. He should have been tired. Should have felt restless.

Instead, he felt amazing.

His enhanced body didn’t need sleep the same way anymore. The breathing technique was circulating energy through his cells, keeping them optimized and refreshed.

A knock on the door.

”Orion? Lunch is ready.”

”Coming, Mom.”

He stood up and caught his reflection in the mirror.

He looked... better. Skin clearer. Eyes brighter. Better posture. Like he’d aged backward slightly.

Orion went downstairs.

Cassia was setting food on the table. Real eggs—not the printed protein most people ate. Toast. Plant-based bacon trying hard to be real bacon.

”How are you feeling?” she asked.

”Good. Really good, actually.” That was an understatement. He felt better than he’d ever felt in his life.

”Where’s Nyla?”

”She texted this morning. Group project at the bioengineering lab. They’re stuck there until next week Friday.”

Good. That gave him time to work without complications.

He sat down and ate. His enhanced senses picked up every flavor with perfect clarity. The eggs were slightly overcooked. The fake bacon had too much salt. The toast was perfect.

Everything tasted more intense. More real.

After lunch, he helped clean up, then went back to his room.

Time to actually use this enhanced brain.

The system interface appeared in his vision with a mental command. He’d discovered that trick earlier—just thinking ”system” made the blue text materialize. One of the options read: ENTER LIBRARY SPACE.

He focused on it mentally, selecting it the same way he’d accepted the enhancement earlier.

He closed his eyes and entered the system library space.

The infinite shelves appeared around him. Impossible architecture stretching in directions that shouldn’t exist.

”Software development,” Orion said. ”Advanced algorithms. AI architecture. Data compression. Cryptography. Everything.”

Books flew toward him like birds.

He grabbed the first one. Advanced Algorithm Design. The moment his fingers touched it, the book dissolved into light and poured into his mind.

Information flooded his memory. Not instant understanding—the knowledge dumped into his brain like files copying to a hard drive. He could feel it all there, stored perfectly in his enhanced memory. But he still had to actually study it. Comprehend it. Understand what it meant.

Perfect recall didn’t mean instant genius. Just perfect storage.

He grabbed another. Neural Network Architecture Theory. More light. More raw data.

Brain-Computer Interface Engineering. Mathematical Foundations of Computation. Three-Dimensional Programming Paradigms. Cybersecurity and Penetration Theory. Quantum-Resistant Encryption.

Each book dissolved into pure information. His enhanced brain catalogued everything, organized it into mental folders, cross-referenced related topics.

Data Compression - Theoretical Limits.

That one was interesting. Shannon’s theorem said there was a hard limit on how much you could compress data without losing information. Like a law of physics for information.

This book showed ways around it. Quantum probability matrices combined with fractal pattern recognition. Mathematics that didn’t exist yet in the public domain.

Orion kept grabbing books. His perfect memory absorbed them all.

He had no idea how long he spent in the library space. Time felt strange here.

When he finally opened his eyes, his room was dark. The clock said 11:47 PM.

Hours had passed.

But he didn’t feel tired. The breathing technique had kept his body and mind fresh the entire time.

Orion lay back on his bed and stared at the ceiling. The glow-in-the-dark stars from when he was twelve were still up there, faintly visible.

His phone said 11:52 PM.

He practiced the breathing technique. Each cycle extracted exotic energy from the air, strengthened his cells, expelled more dark impurities with each exhale.

His body was changing. Getting stronger. More efficient.

And his mind now held knowledge that could revolutionize the world.

Three years. That’s what the system gave him. Three years to build a working fusion reactor or lose everything.

The deadline didn’t scare him.

The reward did.

Type II technology tree. Faster-than-light travel. Artificial gravity. Planetary engineering. Things from science fiction made real.

And more than that—the synthesis method for unknown gas. Qi. Mana. Primordial energy.

If the breathing technique worked this well extracting tiny amounts from normal air, what would happen when he could synthesize it directly? Concentrate it? Cultivate it properly?

Immortality. Superhuman abilities. Breaking the laws of physics.

Three years stood between him and that knowledge.

He wasn’t going to waste a single day.

Orion closed his eyes and returned to the library space.

Time to keep studying.
