Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2961: Chapter 2897: Lending a Helping Hand

When Meng Xinian had talked to Jiang Xiao about it before, he also directly called that woman ”sister-in-law,” but for some reason, the two of them actually broke up.

With this delay, Meng Sheng was already in his late twenties, which really counted as older for marriage in this era.

Among all those relatives of the Meng Family, only Meng Sheng’s family still kept close contact with them now. And Jiang Xiao had interacted with Meng Sheng many times, and felt that among the Meng Family relatives he was the rare one who was clear-headed and warm-hearted, and could be considered reliable in handling matters.

Since Aunt Meng had already said it like that to her, Jiang Xiao didn’t refuse.

”So how do you want me to help, Auntie?”

”It’s just, well, we’re having guests over today, right? Could you invite your roommate over too? That way it won’t seem too deliberate. I just want A-Sheng and that girl to meet first, just meet once, and if he happens to like her then...”

Jiang Xiao couldn’t help laughing.

”Auntie, you’re not worried that Wang Lili might not take a fancy to Brother Meng Sheng?”

Sure enough, in a mother’s eyes, her own child is always good no matter what.

Only then did Aunt Meng say a bit embarrassedly, ”If that girl doesn’t like A-Sheng, then there’s nothing I can do. We just won’t bring it up, and she won’t know either.”

Jiang Xiao thought for a moment, then said, ”Speaking of which, this Wang Lili actually isn’t that unfamiliar to us. Her family is related to Grandpa Tang’s family, she and Tang Qing are cousins, and Grandpa is so close to Grandpa Tang, so you could say there’s some connection.”

”Is that so? That’s good, that’s good.”

After saying that, Aunt Meng suddenly reacted, ”So what you mean is, the Wang Family isn’t just some ordinary family?”

”Not exactly ordinary. Anyway, their family conditions should be quite good.”

As soon as she heard this, Aunt Meng felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her.

With such a good family background, they might not look up to their Meng Sheng.

Right now Meng Sheng was still just an ordinary Public Security Officer at the security office.

Seeing her a bit down, Jiang Xiao said, ”No matter what, I’ll invite her over first and see if there’s any possibility between them?”

”Alright, alright.”

Jiang Xiao carried the things into the kitchen, then went to make phone calls.

She hadn’t invited everyone yet. For those who had a telephone, she could call; for those without, she’d have to go in person.

Fortunately, in the end, most of the guests could be notified by phone.

As for the school, she invited the principal and just asked the principal to pass the word to Liu Guoying and Cheng Qiulian.

And after finding Director Jin, she also asked Jin Lei to help track down Qin Xiaojun and Wang Lili.

Today happened to be the weekend, and this early they hadn’t gone out yet.

Once everyone had been notified, Jiang Xiao went to the kitchen to help.

Meng Sheng was helping too.

Jiang Xiao watched him for a bit and found that he really could do everything—killing chickens and fish, all done cleanly and efficiently.

With a man like this, marrying him should be a happy thing.

However, since she was going to help tie this red string, she had to be responsible to Wang Lili too.

So Jiang Xiao cleared her throat and asked, ”Brother Meng Sheng, let me ask you something.”

”What? Go ahead.”

When he wasn’t working, Meng Sheng usually stayed at the Meng Family’s place.

His parents were both here helping out, and since Meng Chaojun would sometimes faint, they probably couldn’t handle taking care of such a big man on their own, so he was also considered to be helping the Meng Family take care of Meng Chaojun.

”How did you end up breaking up with your previous girlfriend?”
