Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2489: Chapter 2425: Respect Your Elders

”Nian Che, do you remember? You actually should have met him when you were very young.”

”I remember, and it didn’t feel good.”

”You remember?” Old Meng was taken aback, ”Why didn’t it feel good? What do you remember?”

”Nothing much, just that the way he looked at me was full of obvious hatred.”

Even Meng Xinian couldn’t remember when it happened. He was very young and his memories were unclear. He just knew that the person was Nian Che, and he only remembered the way he looked at him was full of hatred or something like that.

”He...” Old Meng sighed, feeling somewhat uneasy about bringing up matters concerning his mother, yet he felt compelled to speak. ”Nian Che probably liked your mother, not in the way a brother likes his sister.”

He was a bit at a loss on how to continue.

Meng Xinian interrupted him.

”Old man, you don’t have to say it, I already know.”

”You know?”

”Yes. Also, don’t go to tonight’s banquet, no matter when he asks you out, just decline.”

”Why? Do you know something else?”

Meng Xinian squinted slightly and countered, ”Old man, it seems like you’re planning to attend the banquet, why?”

Looking at Old Meng’s reaction, he felt like he was planning to see Nian Che.

Old Meng shook his head with a bitter smile, ”I really didn’t want to see him at first. He gives me the same bad feeling. But I feel uncertain in my heart. I want to know what he returned for this time, want to hear what he intends to say.”

”No matter why he returned or what he wants to say, don’t have any more contact with this person. If you go to the hospital, let the guard drive you. If he comes to the house, don’t let him in.”

”That...” Old Meng was somewhat amazed at Meng Xinian’s coldness towards Nian Che. Although he also found Nian Che to be unsettling, nothing had happened after all, and after all, he was still Nian Chengcheng’s older brother. Could it be that Meng Xinian knew something that prompted this wariness?

”Just listen to me.”

But Meng Xinian was unwilling to say more.

No matter what, back then his mother’s emotional matters were manipulated that way, and for an elder, it’s useless to know.

Besides, the one who acted foolishly was his son. Even if he knew about the events of that year, could he seek justice for Nian Chengcheng and beat up Meng Chaojun, or kill him?

So, he had to bear the burden himself.

Old Meng nodded, ”Alright, Grandpa will listen to you.”

His mind was restless. If he didn’t go, would Nian Che take some action? Moreover, he didn’t know what he wanted to say yet.

Suddenly, he thought of something, ”Did you both come back today because you knew about this? Afraid I’d go over, so you came back to keep an eye on me?”

Meng Xinian picked up a gold bracelet, looked at it, and said, ”Old man, you’re getting on in years. If there are things you’re curious about and can’t figure out, don’t ask yourself, let me ask.”

”I’m very healthy right now.” Old Meng glared at him.

This talk made it seem like he would encounter problems over a small matter.

But was he really that fragile?

”You must accept aging.” Meng Xinian put the bracelet back in the box, covered it, and said, ”Come on, let’s go down, Little should be almost done cooking.”

Chiang Xiao quickly cooked a few dishes, indeed very fast, as the ingredients came from Space.

Their three generations ate, and Meng Xinian took the initiative to wash the dishes.

Old Meng chatted with Chiang Xiao for a few words and soon felt drowsy.
