Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2484: Chapter 2420: Are We Driving Her Away?

”I heard someone outside saying that our family is already preparing a marriage for Xiao Liu and Shuangshuang?”

”Yes, Uncle. That’s what people are saying outside. I went to the embroidery shop today and heard people from our own shop talking about it, so I quickly came back to tell you.”

The one speaking was Jiang Qiuyan, the elder daughter of Second Master Jiang, whom Jiang Liu would also call Aunt.

She wore a sapphire blue cheongsam, her hair neatly combed, and she stood in front of Old Master Jiang with her hands gently clasped, a deep concern on her face.

Seeing that Old Master Jiang did not respond after hearing her words, she asked again: ”Uncle, what did Xiao Liu say to you? Does he really not want to marry Shuangshuang? There has to be a reasonable explanation, otherwise, how are we to explain to the Lu Family? Besides, there’s nothing wrong with Shuangshuang.”

Old Master Jiang actually liked Lu Shuangshuang very much.

However, he found it hard to stand against Ah Liu, whom he finally managed to bring back home.

Yesterday, Ah Liu confessed to him about calling off the engagement with Lu Shuangshuang years ago. Although the truth of the past remains unclear, it’s possible that Xiao Fu’s letter was forged by someone, and Lu Shuangshuang did not agree to break the engagement nor return the tokens.

But there’s also a possibility that the letter was real, and the situation might be as described in it.

So, before clarifying the matter, he felt it would be too rash to force Ah Liu into marriage. If Xiao Fu’s letter was true, then Lu Shuangshuang would be a rather untellable character.

How could he let Ah Liu marry such a woman?

If what Xiao Fu said was true, then how terrifying would Lu Shuangshuang be.

In all these twenty years, the act she put on was seamless and gave no hints to anyone.

Even Old Master Jiang shivered thinking about this possibility.

Anyway, regardless of the truth, they must first find it out.

Due to this reason, Old Master Jiang observed Lu Shuangshuang with a bit of scrutiny and caution, and he was somewhat displeased with her decision to stay at the Jiang Family at this critical time and not return home.

Jiang Liu returned home, and she stayed with the Jiang Family since.

Under such circumstances, it’s understandable why people outside talk the way they do.

Hearing Jiang Qiuyan say that there’s nothing wrong with Lu Shuangshuang, Old Master Jiang couldn’t help but think to himself; hadn’t he also held the same belief before?

Why not marry her? What’s wrong with her?

Nothing, just that it now appears strange that there isn’t anything wrong at all.

Back when Xiao Liu had the accident, Lu Shuangshuang was only sixteen, almost seventeen, but from that time on, her behavior had no mistakes.

Indeed, girls from The Great Aristocratic Family are well-taught from a young age, but considering her age, it would be normal to lose one’s composure in the face of a major event. Even he found it hard to bear.

But at that time, although Lu Shuangshuang was heartbroken, her actions and responses remained appropriate.

Thinking of this, Old Master Jiang said to Jiang Qiuyan: ”Go see her and tell her it’s been hard on her these days. Since Xiao Liu has come back, there are still many things to do. Ask if she’d like to go back home first, and choose your words carefully.”

Jiang Qiuyan was stunned: ”Uncle, no matter how I phrase it, Shuangshuang will understand that we’re asking her to leave, right?”

How can this be permissible?

It had always been said that the Jiang Family was Lu Shuangshuang’s second home. For so many years, she could stay as long as she wanted whenever she wanted; when had she ever been asked to leave?
