Chapter 2468: Chapter 2404: Once Wanted to Kill Xinian

Old Meng’s face showed a trace of worry as he spoke.

”Seeing how he acted, there was something off about him. When I got closer, I saw the way he was staring at Xinian, it was truly like the look in a ghost’s eyes just before they kill someone.”

”He wanted to kill Brother Xinian? But Brother Xinian was just a child back then!” Chiang Xiao was shocked.

Nian Che harbored murderous intent towards Meng Xinian?

She trusted Old Meng’s instincts.

Back then, Old Meng wasn’t that old, and having been to the battlefield, he could tell if someone had murderous intent just by their eyes.

”At that time, I didn’t really think he wanted to kill Xinian.” Old Meng said, ”I thought, could he be planning to kidnap Xinian? And then take revenge?”

Kidnap?

This made Chiang Xiao tense up.

Even though it was an event from the past, she couldn’t help but feel anxious and worried as she listened.

”So I quickly stopped him. When he saw me, his eyes changed. He told me he wanted to see us one last time, and then he wanted to borrow money to go abroad for facial treatment, as he might never return.”

Old Meng said, ”I felt at the time that if he could leave, it would be for the best. Although nothing had really happened just now, if he continued to be around Xinian, I’d be concerned. So I voluntarily gave him a sum of money to help him go abroad for the surgery.”

So, that was the real reason Old Meng gave Nian Che money?

And it must have been a considerable amount at the time, right?

As for why Old Meng never followed up on Nian Che, Chiang Xiao understood.

His daughter-in-law had passed away, leaving behind a child who was still small and needed care. His son fell ill for half a month, and the household depended on him for everything inside and out.

Old Meng was never the meticulous type.

”Then did Nian Che really leave later on?”

”Yes, he really left. I specifically had someone watch to see if he boarded the ship. Back then, it was by ship.”

”Grandpa, what exactly caused Brother Xinian’s parents to fall out of love back then?”

”I’m not sure of the exact reason. I asked them both, but Chenger just shook her head and smiled bitterly. Chao Jun said Chenger’s heart was no longer with him, that she had someone else in mind. But when I asked who it was, Chao Jun wouldn’t say. Sigh, back then, I was also tormented over this.”

”Was Brother Xinian’s mom that kind of person? Weren’t they said to have a good relationship in the beginning?”

Chiang Xiao had never discussed these matters with Old Meng before, but now it seemed more complicated than it appeared.

Old Meng shook his head, ”Honestly, I really didn’t feel Chenger was that type of person, but at that time, she was indeed in a daze. Sometimes when I talked to her for a long time, she didn’t hear a word, so I can’t say for sure.”

Chiang Xiao fell silent.

All of this might be answered in Nian Chengcheng’s diary.

By the way, did Nian Che know about Nian Chengcheng’s diary?

He’s been back for so long, but why did he only come today? What has he been doing all this time?

Chiang Xiao looked at her watch and suddenly realized it was half-past five.

She had arranged to meet Meng Xinian, so she must go quickly to avoid him worrying that something had happened to her.

”Grandpa, I think Nian Che doesn’t have good intentions. You better not go to dinner tomorrow.”
