Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2176: Chapter 2112: Intentionally Breaking Off the Engagement

Ah Liu said again, ”We can think of ways to deal with this later. What I want to tell you is that I don’t have such thoughts, but if you want a complete family, I will try my best to find a good woman to start a new family with, so that you will have a mother in the future.”

For her...

Chiang Xiao shook her head.

”I don’t need that, Dad. I’ve already gotten used to it. Having you is like winning the lottery, I don’t need a mother. Of course, Dad, you’re still young. You might meet a woman you like in the future. Always being alone is too lonely.”

Ah Liu chuckled softly.

He reached out and touched her head, saying, ”Okay, I understand what you mean. Go on, get some rest.”

Just like that?

Chiang Xiao thought he would mention Lu Shuangshuang to her.

Later, after washing up and getting into bed, resting her head on Meng Xinian’s arm, she brought up the matter to Meng Xinian. Meng Xinian pondered for a moment and said, ”It seems that Dad has no feelings for Lu Shuangshuang and hasn’t considered marrying her.”

”What do you mean?”

After all, they were engaged.

There was an engagement, youthful affection, and family backgrounds on both sides. Lu Shuangshuang had been waiting for him all along. No matter how you looked at it, if Ah Liu wanted to marry, Lu Shuangshuang seemed the most suitable and appropriate choice.

”If he was interested in marrying Lu Shuangshuang, he would have asked you if you minded him getting married, if you minded him finding a stepmother for you.”

Meng Xinian said, ”Instead of asking if you want a complete family, and if you don’t want it, he doesn’t seem interested.”

It does seem like that.

”Does Dad dislike Lu Shuangshuang, or has he not remembered her yet?”

Meng Xinian said, ”I think he probably remembered and has plans, which is why he’s seeking your opinion carefully. He remembered Lu Shuangshuang and intends to call off the engagement with her. He might end up having a conflict with the Lu Family, which is why he’s seriously consulting your opinion.”

What Meng Xinian said made Chiang Xiao ponder.

Meng Xinian turned to look at her, stroking her face, and continued, ”There’s another thing. I think Dad has remembered the events that happened in Siyang Village back then.”

”Oh?”

Chiang Xiao was a bit surprised.

Did he remember?

Then why hasn’t he brought it up, or asked Chen Zhu about it?

”If your grandparents suggest going back to City M in the next few days, don’t try to keep them, just let them go back.”

It was then that Chiang Xiao recalled Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao’s reactions over the past couple of days and paused.

”I understand.”

”It’s a knot between them. Dad certainly doesn’t want to put you in a difficult position. He’s strong enough to hide everything in his heart, but instead, it’s your grandparents who might feel uneasy. So it’s better for them to go back.”

”No wonder they went to bed so early tonight.”

Chiang Xiao felt she had been a bit oblivious at home. How had she not noticed?

Ah Liu hadn’t mentioned it to her either.

But thinking about it, how could he mention it?

He probably hates Chen Zhu, right? But that’s her biological mother. If he showed any feelings of humiliation from that day in front of her, wouldn’t that imply he might resent her existence?

It’s a very conflicting feeling, isn’t it?

The fact that he could act as if he hadn’t remembered, still so calm and gentle in front of her, treating her like a treasure, is already very good.
