Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2136: Chapter 2072: Remembered

Chiang Xiao truly didn’t understand why he suddenly asked so clearly; before, he never really inquired much about Chen Zhu.

While tidying up the dishes, she vaguely said, ”I don’t know either, because I was still little at that time.”

”Don’t you miss her?”

”No, why should I miss her? After all, since I can remember, I’ve never seen her, so it doesn’t matter at all.”

”...It’s been tough on you.”

Ah Liu said, looking deeply into Chiang Xiao’s eyes.

Chiang Xiao packed her things and carried a kettle of hot water outside, never meeting his gaze.

Ah Liu watched her back, but a woman’s image came to mind.

That mountain village, that mountain behind, that cave, that rainstorm.

The image of that woman.

He had already remembered.

When the memories first returned, Ah Liu found it a bit hard to accept.

Well, actually, even now, he found it somewhat hard to accept.

He always thought Chiang Xiao was the result of his love with her mother. He always believed that even though he couldn’t remember that woman, they must have been deeply in love back then. But he never expected the truth to be so disgraceful.

He not only recalled what happened that day, but another memory surfaced in his mind.

He should have seen that woman at some other time.

But the memories were still jumbled; he didn’t know when it was, at least not aligning with the memories he could recall.

He only remembered it was during the chaos when he was constantly fleeing and hiding, and then he met that woman in a small town. At that time, the woman was wearing a dress liked by nightclub girls, following a man, looking very submissive. Then she saw him and, taking advantage of when the man wasn’t paying attention, threw a note to him.

He also remembered the sparkle in the woman’s eyes when she saw him. At that moment, she was undoubtedly beautiful, but her fragile demeanor was something he disliked.

At that time, he had no idea what relation he had with her.

But he picked up that note, which stated that they had a daughter, with the nickname Little, currently in Siyang Village, and invited him to meet somewhere, telling him to wait for her there that evening. She promised to explain everything to him.

At that time, he didn’t know why he believed her words; a daughter? He wanted to find out clearly what was going on with the daughter.

He went to that place in the evening, waiting for that woman.

But instead, what came were several men with iron pipes wanting his life.

He felt he had been betrayed by that woman and fled in panic.

Then, he met Meng Xinian.

Yes, he remembered it now; he should have met Meng Xinian at that time. He remembered what Meng Xinian looked like.

Back then, Meng Xinian should have only been about eight or nine years old, but he was already quite clever and perceptive. Realizing he was being chased, Meng Xinian led him running through alleys, eventually shaking off those men.

So Meng Xinian had already saved him back then.

”Why are you running around outside alone?” Ah Liu remembered asking him at the time.

At that time, Meng Xinian still looked very youthful, but his eyes already had a maturity beyond his years.

”My mom died long ago. My dad remarried, and that woman is very annoying. I don’t want to stay at home, so I secretly followed one of my grandfather’s former subordinates out. They came here for training and missions; I sneaked along, and they haven’t noticed me yet.”
