Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2118: Chapter 2054: Something Forgotten

But, how long had it been since his son last called him that?

Meng Chaojun felt a piercing pain in his heart.

Chiang Xiao ran all the way to a hotel.

This hotel was a well-established one in the Capital City. It flourished in the seventies and gradually declined in the late eighties. By the nineties, it was on the verge of being demolished.

Later, this place was to be converted into a sauna.

All along, Chiang Xiao kept thinking about something from her previous life.

It was something she had always forgotten.

Back then, while she was sketching, she was also working part-time. Before the hotel was converted into a sauna, they hired people to help tidy up. Some items that could be sold were gathered and sold as scrap, while others that were unsellable were thrown away.

At that time, she thought that she certainly wouldn’t work in a sauna, but she could do this pre-tidy work. The pay then was not insignificant.

So, she worked there for about a week.

She was assigned to tidy up a small storage room, which held many miscellaneous items. Among them were things sent by the hotel guests or others.

Some items remained unclaimed for unknown reasons and piled up there.

While sorting through these things, Chiang Xiao opened many parcels and packages. Some had valuables that needed to be handed over, and if there were books she wanted, she could take them.

It was during this time that she opened a package containing a small box. Inside was a jade ring, a few photographs, and a notebook.

The photos were mostly black-and-white portraits of a child.

The child looked very small and exceptionally adorable.

There was also a photo of a woman with this child. She was holding the child, looking down at the child. Although her face was indistinct, she seemed very, very gentle.

That photo moved Chiang Xiao.

At the time, she always wondered why she didn’t have such a loving mother.

She only glanced at the first page of the diary notebook.

She had intended to read further, but she felt it was somewhat unethical to do so.

No matter who it belonged to, she shouldn’t be peeking into someone else’s diary.

After thinking it over, she felt it was better to return the items to their owner, but she had no idea whose they were. She flipped through and found the name of a photo studio on the back of the photo.

The photo was taken at that photo studio.

So, she carefully wrapped and sealed that package, keeping the photo, and found that photo studio. She asked the owner if he knew the identity of the woman in the picture.

The owner of the photo studio didn’t know, but coincidentally, a man who came to pick up photos saw the picture and recognized it.

”This is the wife of a man I know. She has passed away, but I know where her son is, the child in this photo. He is all grown up now. If you trust me, you can give the items to me, and I’ll pass them on to him.”

At that time, Chiang Xiao felt he didn’t seem to be lying, but remembering the diary, she felt responsible for the deceased woman. How could she hand over her items to a stranger?

So she told the man, ”I’d like to give them to him personally. If you really know him, could you have him send me a photo of himself as a baby? I’ll compare it to this photo, and then I’ll send the items to him. These are his mother’s belongings, and I can’t hand them over to just anyone.”
