Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1669: Chapter 1671: Actions Are More Important Than Promises

”...Uncle Six,” Chiang Xiao called him softly, as this was the only way she could address him for now. ”Promise me, don’t force yourself to try to remember. After we get to the Capital City, I’ll find a good doctor for you, and you’ll get better. And I’ll think about how to talk to you about what happened in Peace Town Siyang Village, okay? I’m not in a hurry, so you shouldn’t be either.”

Ah Liu nodded.

”Little, when we get to the Capital City, will I be staying at your place?”

”Yes.”

”Is there anyone else at home? You can tell me about them first, and what I should be mindful of, so I won’t make a fool of myself then.” Ah Liu pointed to his head and said, ”Sometimes, this doesn’t work so well.”

Chiang Xiao’s nose tingled with emotion.

”No, there’s no one else, just me.”

Ah Liu looked at her in surprise, ”You’re alone?”

”Yes, I study in the Capital City at the Academy of Fine Arts, in the house Brother Xinian bought. I go home on weekends and stay in the dormitory during the week. But once you’re there, I’ll go home every night. Home is very close to school.”

Ah Liu said with admiration, ”You got into the Academy of Fine Arts? That’s impressive. I remember I used to like drawing and writing too, but after coming out, I didn’t have money for brushes and paper.”

He used to be skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, didn’t he?

So, his background must not have been low, and he must have had a life of luxury as a child. But now, he’s saying things like he had no money for brushes and paper...

Chiang Xiao felt a complex, indescribable emotion.

”I’ll have a look at your drawings sometime. I have a lot of brushes and paper at home; you can use them and draw as much as you want,” she said.

Ah Liu wasn’t as overjoyed as she had imagined.

He frowned slightly, looked at her, and asked, ”Little, is your family well-off? I just heard you say that the house in the Capital City was bought by Great Officer Meng?”

”Yes...”

”If your family is well-off, then I won’t say anything, but if all your living expenses are covered by Great Officer Meng, I must say a few words to you. I don’t know what you’ve been through with him before, so I won’t comment on your feelings, but Little, I think you’re a smart girl. You can’t rely too much on him. It’s fine if he’s willing to spend money on you, but you need to have your own limits. At the very least, the things he buys, you can’t share entirely with me.”

He spoke with mild frustration, ”I’m not expressing myself well now, but what I mean is, you must always make sure he respects you, so in the future, you can have a lasting relationship.”

Chiang Xiao was stunned.

The door was gently pushed open, and Meng Xinian walked in, carrying a small first-aid kit.

”I’m sorry, I overheard that part of the conversation just now.” He walked over, placed the first-aid kit on the bed, and looked at Ah Liu, then said seriously, ”You have plenty of time to get to know Little better. She’s a very independent and strong girl, not someone who just depends on me like a flower. So, you don’t need to worry about this issue, and I promise you, I will treat her well for the rest of my life.”

Ah Liu looked at him for a moment, ”Why are you making promises to me? Life is long, you need to take things step by step, one thing at a time, no need to rush to swear, actions speak louder than words.”

Meng Xinian paused.

Once again, he realized that his future father-in-law was not easy to deal with.

His mind isn’t in the best shape now, but what will happen when he recovers?
