Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1652: Chapter 1654 Someone Captures Him

Even though we took the earliest bus, by the time we arrived in town, it was almost noon.

From the town to the village, there’s no transportation at all. According to Cheng Cheng, it takes a full two hours on foot. Moreover, that’s calculated at his speed. I’ve heard some elderly, women, and children need to walk for a full four hours.

The village where Cheng Cheng lives is even more secluded and poorer than Siyang City.

If it weren’t for Ah Liu, Cheng Cheng probably couldn’t even leave the village by himself.

The name of their village is Sidao Gou.

It sounds a bit strange, but around here, many village names are a bit odd, so it doesn’t really matter if it sounds nice or not.

The town was also quite deserted, so much so that the arrival of Meng Xinian and his companions almost caused a stir.

Even though they were travel-worn, their figures, looks, and attire were quite eye-catching, attracting attention as they walked along.

They found a small restaurant to have a quick meal and didn’t linger, immediately setting off for Sidao Gou.

The meal was really nothing to compliment, and Chiang Xiao barely ate. The half bowl of rice left was finished by Meng Xinian.

He didn’t mind at all, simply stating not to waste food, and continued eating once he took the bowl.

Chiang Xiao took two bottles of water out of her backpack and handed one to Cheng Cheng.

”What is this...” Cheng Cheng’s eyes lit up as soon as he saw the water. Wasn’t it the same kind he drank in the cave back then?

Chiang Xiao’s self-mixed potion?

”It’s just thirst-quenching, nothing special,” Chiang Xiao said.

Meng Xinian took the bottle from her hand, handed it back to her, then took it once she drank half and finished the remaining half straight from the bottle.

After drinking, Cheng Cheng looked at him, then at the bottle mouth.

If he wasn’t mistaken, the spot Meng Xinian’s lips touched was exactly where Chiang Xiao drank from.

Meng Xinian raised an eyebrow at him.

What, got a problem?

Cheng Cheng’s expression slightly turned.

Be mindful of appearances; shouldn’t you consider Chiang Xiao’s feelings?

It’s my wife; what’s the issue?

Cheng Cheng turned away, ignoring him.

Chiang Xiao didn’t notice the exchange of glances between the two; she was always looking at the surrounding scenery.

She thought these two plus hours of walking would be very dull, but it turned out not to be. The town looked desolate and barren, yet the scenery along the mountain road was unexpectedly beautiful.

However, the path wasn’t easy to walk, with some places only allowing two people to pass side by side, and next to it was a steep cliff.

Below the cliff, water trickled, appearing incredibly clear.

After walking half of the journey, they didn’t know how many turns they’d taken and seemed to have already gone far from any human habitation, as if they were about to enter an uninhabited wilderness.

Chiang Xiao asked, ”Did he ever say why he ended up running to Sidao Gou?”

Logically, this place is too desolate and remote for Ah Liu, someone with a mental disability, to run to, right?

Moreover, how long would he have been walking at that time?

If he didn’t see another soul along this way, with mountains all around, steep cliffs, streams, and nothing to eat or drink, why would he head into the mountains?

Cheng Cheng said, ”I asked him. He said someone was looking for him at the time, he saw bad people, and so he kept running and running, afraid that the bad people would find him. He ended up seeing two old men walking this way, so he followed them. In the end, he reached Sidao Gou, felt that the bad people wouldn’t find him, felt safe, and didn’t want to go any further.”

Chiang Xiao was taken aback for a moment.

This means that back then, there were people still looking for him, chasing him, all the way to this town?

At that time, were people still trying to catch him?
