Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1658: Chapter 1660: A Gift for the Meeting

He moved the bamboo chair he was sitting on earlier next to Chiang Xiao, ”Sit down, I’ll cook some sugar water for you. Drinking something sweet will make you feel less tired quickly.”

With that, he headed inside the house.

But soon, he popped his head out again and asked Chiang Xiao, ”If the eggs are cooked sweet, will you eat them?”

Chiang Xiao was somewhat bewildered and instinctively said, ”I will eat them. Sweet eggs are tasty too.”

Ah Liu immediately smiled cheerfully, ”Right? You’re like me, I also think sweet eggs are delicious. Ah Cheng doesn’t like them, a lot of people don’t. There’s still two eggs at home, I’ll cook them for you, okay?”

”...Okay.”

With that, Ah Liu started getting busy.

Cheng Cheng and Meng Xinian exchanged a look.

As adopted child? Didn’t even get half an egg?

As the good person who caught the bad guys? Got ignored just like that?

While sweet eggs were cooking, Ah Liu brought out a plate containing several small yellow-skinned pears, handed the entire plate to Chiang Xiao, and said, ”Sweet eggs aren’t ready yet. Eat some pears first, they’re a special wild kind from Sidao Gou Mountain, very small but sweet. The village chief gave them to me, try them.”

”Okay, thank you.” Chiang Xiao picked one and habitually handed it to Meng Xinian, who was standing beside her.

It was a fruit neither of them had tried before, naturally they should share it.

But just as Meng Xinian was about to reach for it, Ah Liu frowned, took the little pear back first, put it back on Chiang Xiao’s plate, and said earnestly to Meng Xinian, ”This is for Little Xiao, she’s a little girl and should eat more. How can a grown man compete with her for food? A man should have a man’s dignity and should be courteous to girls, understand?”

Meng Xinian: ”...”

There are five pears on that plate.

Ah Liu turned to Chiang Xiao, coaxing her as if she were a child, ”They’re all yours, keep them well and eat slowly, don’t worry, no one will compete with you. If someone tries, just tell me.”

Chiang Xiao smiled, ”Okay.”

”But don’t eat too many at once, they’re a bit chilly.”

After saying that, Ah Liu went back inside, and before Cheng Cheng and Meng Xinian could react, he came out again with a small cloth bag, still handing it to Chiang Xiao.

Chiang Xiao was once again bewildered, ”What is this?”

”This is the money I’ve saved. You’re still young and it’s your first time meeting me. As an elder, I should give you a meeting gift, but there’s nothing much to buy here, so I’ll have to give you money. Don’t disdain me for being tainted with the smell of money, use it to buy something you like, be it handkerchiefs, hair ties, or even snacks.”

Chiang Xiao’s hands slightly trembled.

She accepted the cloth bag, opened it, and found a neatly stacked pile of money inside, including Mao notes, cents, and even two, five, or ten yuan bills.

It looked like about seventy or eighty yuan.

Cheng Cheng, standing beside, was also stunned for a moment, ”Godfather, this is all your money, isn’t it?”

Just gave it all to Chiang Xiao?

Ah Liu said indifferently, ”What do I need money for? This little girl looks so much like me, it’s right to give it to her, though I wish I’d saved more.”

He said to Chiang Xiao, ”The valuable things on me, some were pawned for money back then, some were lost during travels. Now I don’t even have a decent thing to gift you, Little Xiao, don’t mind.”

Chiang Xiao’s eyes gently reddened.

She bit her lip and suddenly looked up at him, directly asking, ”Do you remember Peace Town? Do you remember Siyang Village?”
