Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1662: Chapter 1664: Two People Spar

Chiang Xiao was initially baffled, but then she felt a warmth in her heart.

She had not expected Ah Liu to have such progressive thoughts and views, and moreover, he seemed to worry that she might be forced into this and not be happy.

Had he considered that if she truly didn’t want it, what right did he have to tell the elders that the engagement was off?

It seemed he hadn’t thought of these difficulties—he just placed her thoughts first.

She asked softly, ”If I really don’t want it, how do you plan to tell his parents?”

Ah Liu was taken aback for a moment, then his expression changed slightly, ”Are you really being forced? Who? Is it your father, mother, or other elders in the family? Why do they force you? If they truly think it is appropriate for you to be with him and it’s for your sake, then we can reason with them sentimentally and rationally.”

Chiang Xiao smiled slightly.

Ah Liu said, ”Just tell me, do you really not want this engagement? Do you really not want to marry Meng Xinian? If that’s the case, then we won’t have him.”

Meng Xinian happened to come back with the purchased tickets. Hearing this, his brows immediately furrowed, nearly exploding.

He gripped the tickets tightly, gritting his teeth as he looked at Chiang Xiao.

”What’s this about? Wanting to call off the engagement? Chiang Xiaoxiao, who are you not wanting, hmm?”

How could he tolerate hearing such words?

Ah Liu stood in front of Chiang Xiao, looking at Meng Xinian unafraid of his darkened expression.

”Don’t speak to Little like that. I’m the one asking for her opinion. She hasn’t said anything. If you have any dissatisfaction, direct it at me first. Of course, we still need to discuss your engagement with her properly.”

”My engagement with her has long been settled, what else is there to discuss?”

”That may not be the case. If Little doesn’t want to marry you, if she wants to find another to spend her life with, then your engagement needs to be properly renegotiated.”

Meng Xinian felt utterly unsettled.

Can someone tell him what this is all about?

He came with Chiang Xiao to find his biological father, not to find a roadblock!

No one and nothing can obstruct his engagement with Chiang Xiao!

That includes Ah Liu!

He looked at Chiang Xiao, but saw her eyes couldn’t help but spill over with laughter, mischievously winking at him, sticking out her tongue, and making faces, all of which instantly extinguished his anger.

This girl, is she starting to rely on having someone to back her up now?

She had been thinking about postponing the marriage date before; could it be that now she really wants to take this opportunity to delay it?

No chance in the world.

He steadied himself, looking at Ah Liu, and said calmly, ”May I ask, what position are you in to worry about this matter for her?”

”I...” Ah Liu was at a loss.

”Also, we’ve already planned to marry after the New Year. Now backing out, are you teaching Little to be someone who doesn’t keep faith and breaks promises?”

”Getting married after the New Year? How old is she?” Ah Liu was shocked and looked at Chiang Xiao, ”Are you even fifteen?”

Chiang Xiao, who had just been smiling, now had a darkened face.

What did he mean by ”Are you fifteen?” Her height was considerably above her peers, and she certainly looked like a grown young woman, yet in his eyes she was so juvenile?

”After the New Year, she’ll be eighteen. Moreover, she personally promised me. To go back on a promise—don’t you think that’s too much? Isn’t it unbecoming of someone with good character?” Meng Xinian asked steadily again.
