Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1235: Chapter 1236: Strange Connections

Chiang Xiao’s body stiffened abruptly.

Meng Xinian realized it immediately, but he thought she was feeling sorry for him, and immediately comforted her, ”Don’t be afraid, it’s just a dream.”

How could this be a dream?

She had once vaguely ”seen” him in a past life, crippled, sitting alone in a dim and cold room, solitary and desolate.

Chiang Xiao really couldn’t imagine, with Meng Xinian’s domineering character now, if he really lived that kind of life, how utterly defeated and depressed he must have felt.

She had also thought that fortunately that was a past life, and he had the chance to start over, to live a different life.

But she had never expected that he would actually dream of his past life!

”And then?” Her voice was a bit rough as she asked again.

”Then? There was no then, just sitting in that room all the time. There was a caregiver who looked after me, a very strong uncle who had to carry me from the bed to the wheelchair every day.”

”You dreamed all this?”

”Yeah, I dreamed it. But, I couldn’t see his face clearly; he was probably a very honest person.”

Chiang Xiao had completely lost the desire to sleep.

She turned around to face him, even though she couldn’t see his face or his expression in the darkness.

Her hand caressed his face and she asked softly, ”Then did you dream about how you had the accident?”

”Mm, I roughly know. There was a mission, it seemed to be about a secret organization. I heard that this organization used living people for research to study some kind of unending human potential, and then the accident happened. I don’t remember exactly why, but in the dream, when we rushed over, the people from the research institute were about to capture a woman, but that woman fell from a high building and died.”

”What... did you say?”

Chiang Xiao was shaking all over.

She wondered if she had misheard.

Why was what he said so similar to the scene of her death in her past life?

The crippled Meng Xinian she ”saw” was middle-aged. She had died when she was thirty years old, so by that time, Xinian would’ve been thirty-seven. At thirty-seven, would he still personally undertake such missions?

Could it be that in his past life he hadn’t had the accident when he was young?

”Don’t be scared.” Meng Xinian hugged her tightly, his voice low as he said, ”I didn’t see what that woman looked like, but I caught those people for her, not letting a single one get away. Though the dream was a bit chaotic, I think the accident happened after I had caught those people, but I didn’t dream about how exactly it happened.”

Actually, he hadn’t had such clear dreams before; dreams were always disordered.

Until just now.

He was waking up from another dream when she had pulled his hand away.

This time, the dream was a bit clearer.

In the dream, that woman fell down next to him, just a shadow plummeting.

At that moment, he thought he had to catch all of those people, letting none escape. Then the scene shifted; all of those people were caught.

”Before, when I slept, I always felt an emptiness inside, not knowing why I couldn’t find peace. But sleeping holding you, it’s very secure, and I clearly sleep better than usual.”

Meng Xinian was still speaking softly, while Chiang Xiao’s heart was already in turmoil.

She had always thought that in her past life she had no connection with Meng Xi, that they had no interaction at all.

But now, hearing him say this, could it be that in their past life, besides their arranged marriage as children, they actually had a strange connection on the day she died?

Was he intent on capturing those people?
