Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1226: Chapter 1227: Not Doing Well

”Little,” Ge Liutao was somewhat anxious, ”we forgot about your aunt; they’re still in the town! What if they can’t find us in Osmanthus Alley?”

Seeing her worry about this made Chiang Xiao uncomfortable. Meng Xinian had already gently patted her shoulder and said, ”Grandma, don’t worry. I’ll take Little down the hill now and explain the situation to them.”

”You’re taking Little?”

”Yes, I need to go down the hill to make a phone call anyway. I’ll check on Chiang Baohe’s situation and have someone keep an eye on Old Chiang’s family,” Meng Xinian said.

Hearing this, both Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao breathed a sigh of relief and felt reassured.

Ge Liutao still remembered the matter at Chen Kaijin’s end, and Chiang Songhai was concerned about Old Chiang’s family.

No matter how much they said it didn’t matter, they still had a bit of worry in their hearts; at the very least, they needed to know how things were developing.

”But you haven’t eaten yet,” Ge Liutao again fretted that they hadn’t had dinner.

Meng Xinian saw two tiers of steamed buns being prepared and went over, grabbed two with one hand, and, holding them up, said, ”We’ll just eat two buns to fill our stomachs for now, and we can eat something at Peace Restaurant later.”

”Okay then, you’d better hurry down the hill, and come back home to sleep tonight. Don’t walk back on the mountain roads after dark,” Chiang Songhai said.

Meng Xinian immediately gave Chiang Xiao a knowing look.

Grandpa’s words couldn’t be more perfect for him!

That way, he would be alone with Chiang Xiaoxiao in Osmanthus Alley at night!

He very much liked this arrangement!

Chiang Xiao was speechless.

She didn’t know if it was because Meng Xinian had already shared a room with her, but now it seemed her grandparents really weren’t guarding against him.

Or could it be that they thought she had grown up?

Or perhaps they believed Meng Xinian was entirely trustworthy?

Regardless of the reason, she was quite speechless.

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao did indeed trust Meng Xinian and felt that as long as he was there, the people from Old Chiang’s family would have nothing to worry about upon seeing them return.

Meng Xinian instructed Dai Gang to watch over the hill and then took Chiang Xiao down the mountain.

By the time they entered the town, it was already dark.

”Are we really going to eat at Peace Restaurant?” Chiang Xiao asked.

”Actually, I’d rather go home and have you cook for me,” Meng Xinian said, curling his lips into a smile. Seeing that Chiang Xiao was about to agree, he quickly stopped her.

”Let’s eat the food you cook next time. If your bargain aunt and her group haven’t left yet, they should be eating at Peace Restaurant around this time. We can go straight there to check and have dinner at the same time.”

Chiang Xiao thought about it and realized he was right.

There weren’t many places to eat in Peace Town. Even though two new small private restaurants had recently opened, their dishes weren’t quite up to Peace Restaurant’s standards, nor were they as spacious. Given Chen Kaijin’s current ostentation, she would definitely choose Peace Restaurant for dinner.

Sure enough, as soon as they entered Peace Restaurant, they spotted the Chen Sisters and their driver sitting in a corner.

The three had ordered four dishes and each had a bowl of rice, eating intently.

They hadn’t noticed Meng Xinian and Chiang Xiao coming in.

Chiang Xiao gestured for Meng Xinian to look over there, and they made their way to sit down at a table not far from them.

”That’s their driver.”

”Your bargain aunt doesn’t seem to live very comfortably,” Meng Xinian concluded after a glance.

Chiang Xiao was taken aback.

”Surely it’s not that bad? I think their clothes look pretty decent. Plus, on this trip here, they’re even bringing grandparents eight hundred yuan, and they’ve got a driver to bring them here. Shouldn’t they be living okay?”
