Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 888: Chapter 889: Quite Concerned About Me

”I think Little will end up spoiling you rotten!” Old Meng huffed.

At these words, Chiang Xiao’s face grew warm. She spoiled Meng Xinian rotten?

Clearly, he’s the one who’s already quite bad!

She had always been the one bullied by him.

In the following two days, Meng Chaojun called several times, each call filled with rage and bluster, but the Meng grandfather and grandson didn’t pay him much attention.

By the time the last two days came around, even if they wanted to withdraw, it was too late, so the calls finally ceased.

The Elite Supervisor Guard competition was invisible to people outside the Alliance District.

Even Old Meng wasn’t surprised.

So, on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, they all stayed home making sweet dumplings while waiting for news from Meng Xinian.

Chiang Xiao had agreed with Zhao Xin that he must call her immediately with any news, so she basically stayed by the phone.

Although she knew Meng Xinian’s leg had healed, love breeds chaos—she was still worried he might suffer another accident.

In a neighboring province’s Alliance District, a training field and a fighting platform had been set up long ago, made of concrete and covered with a green carpet.

Leaders from various parties sat in the front row at the site.

Behind them were rows of neatly arranged teams.

To the right, a prep area housed twelve tall and sturdy Supervisor Guards waiting their turn; some were practicing their punches, chatting, or shaking out their wrists.

Meng Xinian sat to one side, eyes closed, appearing to be in meditation.

A group of people walked over, led by a man over one meter eighty tall with well-developed muscles. Despite the cold weather, he wore a tank top, his dark skin in stark contrast with the fair-skinned Gao Wei beside him.

At their approach, several chatting men immediately fell silent.

They walked up to Meng Xinian.

Gao Wei looked at Meng Xinian’s right leg and snickered, ”Captain Meng, can’t even stand for a while without feeling weak?”

Meng Xinian opened his eyes and glanced at him, ”Did you sign up?”

His nonchalant question slapped across Gao Wei’s face like a slap.

Meng Xinian, despite his leg injury, had the courage to sign up for the Elite Supervisor Guard King competition, yet Gao Wei neither dared to sign up nor qualified to do so.

He was only a Supervisor Guard Academy student, and to this day no Academy student had the courage to vie for the Elite Supervisor Guard honor with those already serving as Supervisors.

”I don’t need to sign up. However, today I did want to see if your leg might just give out on you again.” Gao Wei leaned in closer and lowered his voice, ”I heard that the deepest part of your wound exposed the bone and got so severely infected that they almost had to dig out all the necrotic flesh. What if Lv Ping, buddy, accidentally hits that spot? Wouldn’t it just trigger a relapse of your old injury?”

Lv Ping was the muscular teammate by his side,

the one who had claimed the Elite Supervisor Guard honor three years ago and who now answered only to the Gao Family.

Before Meng Xinian could speak, Gao Wei burst into laughter, ”But don’t worry too much. Lv Ping is directly seeded into the third round, and you still have to win two matches to fight him for the crown of Elite Supervisor Guard King. Maybe it’s best if you just show your face in the first round and maybe you’d come out intact. Otherwise, I’m afraid you’ll exhaust yourself trying and get wrecked in the first round.”

”You certainly seem to care a lot about me,” Meng Xinian’s eyes flashed.

”Of course, we grew up in the same compound, didn’t we? If I don’t care about you, who will I care about?”

”Thanks for the concern,” Meng Xinian replied.

Gao Wei, seeing that Meng Xinian, who was normally quick to fight at the slightest disagreement, was keeping his cool today and didn’t dare to snap back or even stand up, remaining seated, couldn’t help feeling secretly delighted.
