Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 885: Chapter 886: Arrogant

Meng Chaojun said angrily, ”That boy is truly getting more and more out of control. Does he think people don’t know he’s my son, Meng Chaojun, just because he never comes home? Does he believe that whatever he does can sever his ties with the Meng family? Dad, you must scold him into coming to his senses this time! The fact that his name is on the list means he’s already passed. Unless he withdraws himself, no one has the right to intervene. You have to make him cancel his registration!”

”Have you lost your mind, Meng Chaojun?” snapped Old Meng, who had been worried about Meng Xinian’s leg injury. ”Don’t you realize that if he withdraws now after his name has been submitted, it will affect his future and his reputation? In their team, he would also be publicly criticized and punished!”

Was he mad?

”That’s under normal circumstances,” Meng Chaojun raised his voice, ”As long as he submits a medical certificate from the doctor, the Alliance District could understand!”

”Then how is he going to explain why he registered in the first place when he was clearly injured?”

”That’s why I say that boy is willfully stubborn, completely disregarding the consequences!”

”What consequences? What’s wrong with him wanting to be an Elite Supervisor Guard?”

”He still has to be capable of winning! Does he really think he’s invincible? Even if he weren’t injured, it’s not certain he’d be anyone’s match! Sure, he’s tough in a fight, but does being tough in a fight qualify one to be an Elite Supervisor Guard? That requires genuine skill! Fine, let’s say his real skill is indeed not bad, but now he’s injured! And it’s his right leg that’s hurt; who does he think he is? Bruce Lee or Wong Fei-hung? Can he still beat anyone?”

Meng Chaojun grew increasingly furious, feeling like Meng Xinian was determined to drive him to an early grave.

Old Meng’s voice grew louder in his anger, ”What crap are you spouting! Are you even fit to be a father? Do you think my grandson is only good at fighting? I’ll tell you, Meng Chaojun, he could pin you down with just his finger, believe it or not?”

”Dad, let’s be rational and not talk nonsense!”

”Me, talking nonsense? Alright, Meng Chaojun, you tell me, what the hell do you want? Anyway, I support my eldest grandson; if he wants to compete, let him!”

”Have you even considered how bad it will look if he loses? Knowing he’s injured but still signing up recklessly—will he come across as foolish, arrogant, or someone who thinks he can cheat his way through the competition because of his father? When that happens, I’ll be the one losing face! Do I not care about my reputation? Besides, when did we ever teach him to be so arrogantly self-assured?”

Meng Chaojun was so angry his chest heaved with each breath.

Today, when he received the list, people from the Gao family and the Lu family came with mocking congratulations, saying things like ’like father, like son’, looking forward to Meng Xinian winning the glory of being the Elite Supervisor Guard King! They even said they must join him for a meal to celebrate properly when the time comes. If possible, they suggested taking the opportunity to introduce his future daughter-in-law, hearing that Meng Xinian has done well for himself with a much younger girl.

Those words, those expressions, were like slaps in his face!

His face went from green to white with embarrassment, his dignity almost completely lost.

Old Meng was also livid, his face turning ashen, ”If you really taught him to be so arrogantly self-confident, then I really must commend you. The problem is, you, Meng Chaojun, have your pride tied up in your woman’s apron strings. When have I ever seen you teaching your son?”

With that, there was a loud click as he hung up the phone.
