Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 847: Chapter 848: She and His

Chen Yin’s mother called back forty minutes later.

”The doctor has left, and Old Meng had woken up, but after taking his medicine, he fell asleep again. There’s nothing to worry about, but your dad and Aunt Qing haven’t come home, and I’ve no idea where they went. Old Meng has been angrily saying that he’s going to take the train to City M first thing in the morning, and he won’t spend the New Year in the Capital City. Nobody can dissuade him.”

Meng Xinian took the call himself, and after hearing what Aunt Chen said, he replied, ”Don’t try to persuade him anymore. I’ll find someone to buy him a train ticket right now. Aunt Chen, could you please help him pack some luggage? Just a few pieces of clothing will do, we have everything here.”

Since Grandpa didn’t want to spend the New Year with them and was planning to come to City M to spend it with him, that was a good thing.

Besides, he needed to ask Grandpa in person what had happened, exactly.

After hanging up the phone, Meng Xinian immediately called another friend in the Capital City, who had also retreated from the Alliance District, and had him buy a train ticket for the next morning. He also reminded his friend to pick up Grandpa from the Meng Family, before ending the call.

”It will be quite late when Grandpa arrives, so I’ll pick him up from the train station tomorrow night,” Chiang Xiao said, pushing him. ”Tomorrow, I’ll buy a set of new bedding. I’ll wash them in the morning, and they should be dry by tomorrow afternoon. Can we let Grandpa stay in that room upstairs?”

Initially, there were only two large bedrooms on the first floor. Chiang Songhai thought the rooms were too big and somewhat wasteful, so he divided both rooms into two each. Now, Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao occupied one room, Chu Liang another, Meng Xinian a third, and the fourth had been set up as a studio. Unless one bought a folding cot to make do, that room couldn’t accommodate anyone.

But they couldn’t possibly ask Old Meng to make do with a folding bed, could they?

Listening to her proposal, Meng Xinian felt more and more like they were a family.

The feeling was indeed pleasant, but he didn’t plan to heed her suggestion.

”Let Grandpa stay in my current room. That room upstairs is mine, right? I heard it was decorated to my liking.”

Chiang Xiao retorted testily, ”Hey, Cripple Meng, can you even go upstairs now?”

Cripple Meng...

Meng Xinian felt that the girl’s courage was truly getting bigger. He couldn’t help but grab the wheelchair, made a turn, faced her, and then, supporting himself on the armrests with both hands, he abruptly stood up.

Standing on one foot.

He placed his hands on her shoulders and looked down at her, ”Do you want me to go upstairs right now to show you?”

Chiang Xiao felt confined by his posture, his masculine presence oppressively enveloping her, causing her heart to race.

”Are you crazy? Do you plan to hop upstairs?”

”I can hop upstairs on one foot,” Meng Xinian let go of her and then, true to his word, hopped toward the staircase. His movements were light and swift, even graceful, and silently executed. In just a few blinks, he’d reached the bottom of the stairs, holding the handrail with one hand and lightly resting his injured right foot on a step, turning back to look at her.

That look on his face was like a child awaiting praise.

He’d shaved his beard cleanly, and apart from a bandage still on his wound, he looked as handsome and imposing as he used to be.

Chiang Xiao couldn’t help wanting to laugh.

She wheeled the chair over, ”I get it, you’re impressive. Are you done now? If you’re worried Grandpa won’t like the room upstairs, then maybe Chu Liang could move up there...”

”Don’t even think about it.”

Meng Xinian immediately knocked her on the head.

He wasn’t willing even for his dear Grandpa, let alone for Chu Liang.

The upstairs was for him and her.
