Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 817: Chapter 818 Something May Have Happened

They took a taxi home.

Chiang Xiao looked at the street scenery outside, and her mood suddenly turned sour.

Tyrant Meng, that liar!

He promised to return after a year, but now it’s already a year and ten days later, and he still hasn’t come back! Moreover, there’s still no word from him.

Once the new year passes, she would be fifteen. Tyrant Meng is going to miss her entire fourteenth year!

When they arrived home, Chu Liang came to the door. Seeing them with big and small bags, he quickly came over to help. After they carried everything into the house, he suddenly remembered something and hurriedly said to Chiang Xiao, ”Oh right, Chiang Xiao, Chen Yin came by yesterday, looking for you! I told him you would probably return to the Capital City today, and he left a phone number asking you to call him when you arrive.”

Chiang Xiao was stunned.

She and Chen Yin knew of each other’s existence, but they had neither met nor spoken.

Why would Chen Yin suddenly be looking for her?

Chiang Xiao suddenly had a bad feeling in her heart.

She immediately dialed the number.

The phone rang several times before it was picked up by a somewhat deep male voice.

Upon first listen, the voice seemed slightly similar to Meng Xinian, Chiang Xiao paused, a bit dazed, but the other party quickly responded, immediately asking, ”Is this Sister-in-law?”

Sister-in-law...

It felt like it had been a long time since she’d heard anyone call her that.

Chiang Xiao came back to her senses, ”This is Chiang Xiao.”

”Sister-in-law, have you arrived at the Capital Province?”

”Yes. Why are you in G Province as well?”

Chen Yin was supposed to be in the Capital, but she had also heard Meng Xinian say that Chen Yin was in business, traveling all over the place.

But it seemed he had never been to G Province before.

”Sister-in-law, there’s something I need to tell you. Please, stay calm after hearing it.”

Upon hearing this, Chiang Xiao felt instantly uneasy; she subconsciously gripped the handset tighter and took a deep breath, ”Is something wrong with Meng Xinian?”

Chen Yin was silent for a good while before saying, ”We’re not sure yet.”

”Not sure yet, what does that mean?” Chiang Xiao felt like she should scream out loud, but in reality, her tone was very calm and steady.

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were busy preparing dinner, planning to have hot pot, but hearing her off-kilter words, the three of them stopped what they were doing, came over and looked at her with concern.

Chen Yin said, ”Xinian should have returned two days ago. He first reached out to me, knowing I was about to come to City M, and asked me to bring some things, probably intended as gifts for you. But when I arrived, I couldn’t find him. Over at Xinying District, Officer Yang said he hadn’t returned to report yet; at the old camp area, Officer Yang is also looking for him. Officer Yang mentioned that there was a slight error in intelligence during their last mission. The targets Xinian’s team was supposed to eliminate weren’t completely accounted for – two were missed.”

Now, Chiang Xiao truly wanted to scream out loud.

What did that mean!

What did it mean?

What does ’two were missed’ imply?

Wasn’t he supposed to be on a special training program?

How had he ended up on such a dangerous mission?

Chen Yin continued, ”Officer Yang didn’t go into too much detail with me. However, he mentioned they had found entry records for those two individuals, and there’s another piece of information. Three of the foreign special training team members who participated in that mission with Xinian have been killed one after the other.”

Chen Yin’s words sent chills creeping over Chiang Xiao’s hands and feet.

She tried hard to calm herself down.

In fact, she appeared quite composed on the outside, but no one knew that her hands and feet were going numb; she felt as if she was about to lose her grip on the phone.
