Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 769: Chapter 770: Unprepared for Defense

Chiang Songhai, however, was unconvinced. ”What’s that got to do with our Little?”

”Our Little is engaged now! It’s been such a long half year since Xinian left, and not a word from her, what if our Little fell for her deskmate, what then?”

Chiang Songhai was startled. ”That can’t be, can it? How could that happen? Our Little’s not that kind of girl.”

Wouldn’t that be just like Chiang Baoguo, already having a wife but still getting involved with another woman? That’s not acceptable, that would be a betrayal of what happened with Xinian!

Chiang Xiao had no idea that the old couple was worrying and fretting over this.

Chiang Xiao’s high school life went on as usual, nothing particularly new or surprising, but it could hardly be called tranquil either.

The one who caused the most trouble was her deskmate Yu Hang.

He and Xi Minghui quickly became the talk of the school, even joining the school’s basketball team. When they played basketball, the two were like two small suns shining on the court, attracting the attention of most of the girls from the first to third year.

What’s more, both of them also had really good academic performance. At the end of the month’s exams, Yu Hang scored first in the entire grade, Chiang Xiao came second, and Xi Minghui third.

It had been a while since Chiang Xiao hadn’t won first place, so she was a bit stunned when she learned of the rankings.

Yu Hang next to her glanced at her test paper and said, ”You only scored one and a half points less than me, deskmate, not bad! Can we consider ourselves the king and queen from now on?”

Chiang Xiao couldn’t be bothered with him.

She was just a little surprised by Yu Hang’s score, but she didn’t get upset over the rare second place finish.

However, the nickname king and queen somehow got out.

Even Fu Mingfeng heard about it.

”Yu Hang and Xi Minghui transferred from the neighboring province to our school,” one day, Fu Mingfeng got some fine tea and invited Liu Guoying and Chiang Xiao to his home to enjoy it. He mentioned the nickname king and queen, finding it amusing, but he also felt it necessary to inform Chiang Xiao of their background.

From elementary school, Yu Hang and Xi Minghui had always been top students, consistently taking the first and second places in their grade,” Fu Mingfeng said with a smile, looking at Chiang Xiao, ”This time you lost by only one and a half points, so it’s not a defeat. Yu Hang definitely has a solid foundation from first and second year that you don’t, especially since you skipped grades to get here.”

”Principal, I’m not that upset about getting second place either.”

Chiang Xiao broke into a sweat.

That time when she went home and her grandparents found out she got second place, they were worried she might take it badly, so they made her a big meal and comforted her for a long time.

She never considered grades the most important thing in life. As long as she performed up to her potential, why must she be first?

”Second place isn’t bad either,” Liu Guoying chimed in from the side.

A few days earlier, he had visited Mingchen Studio and saw two paintings by Chiang Xiao up for sale. He especially liked one of them but his pride stopped him from mentioning it to Chiang Xiao. However, now he couldn’t help but say something that sounded like consolation.

This was already quite rare for him.

Chiang Xiao flashed him a smile, ”Teacher, since my academic performance is not bad and my painting is pretty good too, don’t you want to consider taking me as your apprentice?”

Fu Mingfeng couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

Lately, Chiang Xiao had been seizing every opportunity to ask to be his apprentice, catching him off guard every time.
