Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 438: Chapter 438: The Future Brother-in-Law

Meng Xinian was only twenty years old, and his position in the alliance team probably wasn’t very high yet, but the letters he wrote always had an air of arrogance in them.

Now, the two team members who came to see him didn’t look much older, and Chiang Xiao had no idea whether they were his peers or subordinates.

However, as soon as she spoke, their eyes lit up immediately, and they both tried to walk into the room, resulting in the pair being wedged in the door frame like a couple of trapped hams.

Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

The younger-looking of the two big lads immediately blushed and glared fiercely at the soldier next to him, ”Can’t you show some love?”

”Can’t you show some respect for elders?”

Watching the two of them at loggerheads, Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but laugh again.

”Are you here to see Brother Xinian?” she asked again.

”We heard that Captain Meng had a very pretty girl over, so we came to see you specially!”

”We thought it was Sister-in-law who had come, but it turned out to be you.”

Uh?

Chiang Xiao was a bit baffled.

Sister-in-law?

It’s you?

So, should she explain herself?

Did she already have some reputation in the alliance team?

”I...”

”Little sister, I guess your sister is Captain Meng’s fiancée, right? Otherwise, no lady has ever come to see Captain Meng, and the moment he gets engaged, you show up!”

”Wait, we should introduce ourselves first.”

”Oh, right, right. Little sister, let me introduce myself first, my name is Dai Gang, I’m a member of Captain Meng’s team! I transferred over with Captain Meng from the old camp!” The tall guy who looked around twenty-one or twenty-two smiled with his eyes all bent.

”Little sister, my name is Gong Xinhe! I’m only seventeen this year, the same age as Zhao Xin, no, three months younger than him.” The younger soldier’s eyes sparkled, ”Zhao Xin always says he knows Sister-in-law and acts all high and mighty in front of us every day!”

Pff.

Chiang Xiao was taken aback for a moment.

Meng Xinian himself seemed to be a very reserved person, not very talkative, and she couldn’t see the clownish quality in him; how come his subordinates were all like Zhao Erleng?

These two, were they the ones who won a competition and followed him from the old camp?

Appearances really can be deceiving, as can the depths of the sea.

”Nice to meet you, my name is Chiang Xiao.”

They had already introduced themselves, so she couldn’t just stay silent, right?

After a thought, she added another line, ”Please, just call me by my name.”

She really wasn’t young anymore, being called ”little sister” over and over again somehow felt a bit hollow inside, didn’t it?

”Chiang Xiao?”

”That’s a nice name!”

That was an insincere compliment if she ever heard one, her name was very common, especially when not written down, it sounded like ”little ginger,” where was the niceness in that?

”Thank you.”

”Chiang Xiao, where are you from?” Dai Gang had come specifically to seize the opportunity to investigate the information of Meng Xi’s fiancée; they were all very curious about the woman who had tamed Tyrant Meng! Just thinking about it seemed like a legend.

The problem was, she not only became Meng Xinian’s fiancée, but it was also clear that Meng Xinian was thinking of her every day, her letters, the parcels she sent, they practically acted as his weather vane!

”I came from my hometown.” Chiang Xiao said with a hint of cunning. She hadn’t forgotten what Meng Xi had told her, that he had mortal enemies within the alliance team; it was best to keep her situation secret for now.

Although if others wanted to investigate, they might very well be able to find out.

But she didn’t have the habit of talking too much with strangers.

”Chiang Xiao, you call Captain Meng ’Brother Xinian,’ surely because your sister is his fiancée, right? Captain Meng is going to be your brother-in-law!”
