Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 405: Chapter 405: A Mouthful of Old Blood

”Officer, were you looking for me?”

The moment Yang Zhiqi saw Meng Xinian’s face, which seemed to embody integrity and righteousness, he couldn’t help but feel annoyed.

”Enough with the ’you you you,’ trying to act all polite,” he scoffed.

”Officer, I am actually quite polite,” Meng Xinian said seriously.

It was so hard to be a person; he was getting scolded even for using honorifics. Wasn’t that unjust?

Banging the newspaper on the table, Yang Zhiqi retorted, ”You’re polite? Then who was it that last time, clutching a bottle, ran away as soon as they saw me?”

”Officer, would I have run away if you hadn’t come to our dorm last time, tried the fried mushrooms, and then took the whole bottle with you?”

Speaking of which, who was being excessive?

Who understood the tiredness in his heart during this period?

Was it easy for his little wife to make something? She had to go up the mountain, start a fire, bustling about. Yet, every time a package arrived, Xiao Qian from the communications office would just blare it out.

”Captain Meng, there is a package for you in the communications office, for you, for you!”

He even repeated it three times!

Consequently, the dozen or so wolf cubs under him would rush to the communications office, claiming they were helping him fetch the package so he wouldn’t tire himself out!

Alright, if they were helping him with the package, that’s all well and good, but what’s with the crowd of people surrounding him, watching him open the package?

Once the package was opened and they saw anything edible, those dozen pairs of eyes turned green! They were howling!

Every time, he had to resort to force to grab some for himself. Was it easy for him?

And the half bottle of fried mushrooms that he had managed to secure last time, he hadn’t even eaten them yet, and this one! Ah, this respected Officer, went to his dorm and just took it with him!

He was truly, haha.

Being put on the spot like this by Meng Xinian made Yang Zhiqi feel embarrassed, and then a bit irritated.

”You little brat, I’ve been taking care of you since you were twelve years old, after your grandfather dumped you on me. At fifteen, I started taking you on missions. I raised you, and I’ve always looked out for your best interests. What’s wrong with eating a bit of your little wife’s fried mushrooms?”

He had always pretended not to have a close relationship with Meng Xinian, acting unfamiliar, which was also exhausting, because every time he wanted to give the kid a thrashing.

What did he tell him last time? During this competition, don’t embarrass the Second Squad Leader too much. What did you do? You flattened their entire team! Not one of them even found the flag! Did you take my words as a mere breeze past your ear?

Meng Xinian’s lips curled slightly as he said, ”Officer, what you said was not right in the first place. When two armies face off, of course it’s a matter of skill, and of course, you have to do your best. When have you ever seen warriors ask their opponents to go easy in battle, just so they don’t lose too embarrassingly?”

”Are they your opponents though? They’re all from my Guard Squad!”

”There are long and short fingers when you stretch out your hand. Officer, don’t you even know that?”

A burst of laughter escaped.

”Fine, fine, fine, I can’t win against you. Is it really what you want, to transfer to Xinying District?”

”Haven’t you known about this for a while now?”

”You know as well that once you’re in Xinying District, your squad will be integrated into an even more confidential strike team and will be assigned even more dangerous tasks. The transit camp, so to speak, is just a façade for outsiders. Are you sure you want to go? Does your grandfather agree?”

”I’m sure. This is my affair, and it doesn’t require seeking my grandfather’s approval.”

”Alright, I know I can’t persuade you, kid. So, in ten days, take your pack of wolf cubs and report there.”

”Yes, sir!”

Meng Xinian turned to leave.

Yang Zhiqi called after him, ”Wait. Don’t you want to bring your little wife back to the Capital City to visit your grandfather?”
