Shut Up, Malevolent Dragon! I Don’t Want to Have Any More Children With You

Vol 9. Chapter 42: How Can the Gap Between Twins Be This Big?

A few days later, Thunder Law Clan, Thunder Dragon Sanctuary.

Early in the morning, Noa was about to finish her short period of study under Odin.

After breakfast, the old man and the young girl strolled slowly to the entrance of the sanctuary.

“Worthy of being Leon’s daughter. Your learning ability is the strongest I’ve ever seen among all the younger generation.”

Odin clasped his hands behind his back, sparing no praise for Noa.

“Just a few days is really too short. If it were possible, I truly would have liked to teach you a bit more magic.”

Noa smiled modestly and dipped her head slightly.

“You praise me too highly, Grandpa Odin. You taught well—that’s why I learned quickly. And it’s not about knowing many techniques. Even mastering just one is already progress. That’s something my old man would say.”

Odin chuckled with a hint of satisfaction.

“That’s true. Although I only taught you one spell these past few days, as long as you master it well, your strength will certainly rise to another level. You’ll be even stronger before adulthood—like a fish playing in water.”

“Mm. Thank you very much, Grandpa Odin.”

Odin clapped his hands lightly.

“No need to thank me. If anyone should be thanking someone, it should be me. When you get back, please pass my thanks to your father. His investigation results at Thunderclap Cavern were extremely critical. After his reminder, we reinforced the seals on the Demon Sword Shards, and sure enough, the recent environmental anomalies have improved quite a bit.”

Noa nodded.

“Alright, I’ll tell Dad.”

“Mhm.”

After a pause, Odin asked again, “Oh right, you’re only fifteen now. You can’t use shapeshifting magic yet, can you?”

Noa scratched the corner of her forehead a little awkwardly.

“Mm... not yet.”

The magic system of Samael was fairly straightforward at its core. As long as one grasped the technique and had sufficient magic power, almost any type of spell could be used.

But for dragons—and some other races with similar “transformation” traits—there was a category of magic that had an absolute restriction that had existed for decades.

That was shapeshifting magic.

Before the age of twenty, dragons could not complete shapeshifting—that is, altering their bodies.

As for fallen-born dragons, compared to womb-born dragons, they also could not shapeshift. At most, they gained an extra pair of dragon horns; they never underwent a second dragonization.

Likewise, certain spells that could only be learned after shapeshifting—such as combinations involving Flight Magic or Wingbeat Dragonflame—were completely inaccessible to dragon apprentices under twenty.

Simply put, twenty years old was the dividing line for a dragon’s physical growth and overall power.

Only after their bodies became strong enough could they wield more heavily enhanced magic.

This was also why, when the ancient peril-forms had invaded the Silver Dragons en masse back then, Noa had forcibly activated Primordial Ascension to shape an adult body for herself.

Only that way could she dragonize, fly, and even unleash Ninth Gate · Night Cannon.

“Alright. I’ll have someone see you home.”

As he spoke, Odin raised a hand and summoned a guard.

The old man was quite thoughtful—he even deliberately chose a female guard, likely so Noa wouldn’t feel awkward during her adolescence.

“Ah, thank you, Grandpa Odin, but you can just send me straight to the academy.”

Noa said, “Today is the check-in day for the adult dragon division. My parents will be waiting for me at the academy.”

“Very well.”

The female guard spread her dragon wings and lowered herself. Noa leapt lightly onto the dragon’s back.

The giant dragon beat its wings and slowly ascended.

“Goodbye, Grandpa Odin~”

Kneeling on the dragon’s back, Noa waved down at him.

Odin nodded in return.

“Safe travels.”

...

...

Saint Heath Academy, adult dragon division check-in area.

The Melkvey family and Helena stood at the entrance of the check-in office, waiting together for Noa, who still hadn’t arrived.

Helena paced back and forth anxiously, then looked up at the clock hanging in the corridor.

“There are only fifteen minutes left. Why isn’t Noa here yet?”

Rosvisser held Muse in her arms and freed one hand to gently pat Helena’s shoulder, signaling her to calm down. She then spoke softly:

“She’s coming from the Thunder Dragon Clan, which is quite far away, so she might be a bit late.”

“Hey, Sister Helena, don’t worry.”

Aurora sat on a chair in the corridor, her legs in white over-the-knee socks swinging lazily.

“My big sister wants to enter the adult dragon division more than anyone else. There’s no way she’d be late.”

“But what if?” Helena still couldn’t help worrying.

“What if she runs into some super dangerous peril-form on the way or something...”

Her imagination was running wild.

Leon chuckled and said:

“Even if Noa really couldn’t make it in time, it wouldn’t be a big problem. We could just...”

As he spoke, Leon stepped to his precious second daughter’s side, raised a hand, patted her head, and pressed down the little cowlick on top.

“Let Moon register in Noa’s place. They look exactly the same anyway.”

Moon stared at him.

“Dad—are you being serious right now?”

Helena knew Uncle Leon was joking, trying to ease her nerves.

Still, she seriously considered the feasibility of twins substituting for each other during check-in.

It seemed... pretty risky.

Because...

She secretly glanced at Moon’s chest. Even though she was only fifteen, there were already faint signs of development.

Then she thought of her best friend’s completely flat, childlike figure...

Wouldn’t it be obvious at a glance?

Totally obvious!

After waiting a bit longer, with less than five minutes left before check-in ended, Helena became even more restless.

“No, this won’t do. I should go talk to my mom and see if she can extend the check-in time,” Helena said.

Leon actually looked even more nervous than Helena and continued to reassure her.

“Really, there’s no need to worry, Helena. Noa she—oh, she’s here.”

As he spoke, Leon patted Helena’s shoulder.

Helena turned around and saw a familiar figure running toward them from the other end of the corridor, waving as she came.

“Sorry to keep you waiting!”

Noa jogged up to them.

“The Thunder Dragon Clan sister who brought me here wasn’t very familiar with the way, so it took a bit longer.”

Leon smiled and looked at Helena.

“See? I told you Noa wouldn’t be late.”

Helena quickly grabbed Noa’s wrist and pulled her toward the check-in office.

“Hurry up and take care of the procedures. Then today we can assemble into groups and go pick up missions.”

That was exactly why she’d been so worried:

“If you’re late, you won’t get assigned.”

For Noa, entering the adult dragon division meant wanting to temper herself in a more comprehensive way.

And carrying out missions of varying difficulty and danger was the most direct method.

Helena understood Noa’s mindset, which was why she’d been afraid Noa wouldn’t make it in time.

The two best friends walked into the check-in office together.

Leon leaned against the doorframe and peeked through the crack. Inside, the students were filling out manuals and verifying identity information.

“Wow, everyone in there is a grown-up. Noa’s the only minor.”

Those who could advance to the adult dragon division were, as the name implied, all adult students.

Helena included.

Noa was the exception.

She had enrolled at two years old, never repeated a year, never failed a course, and advanced smoothly from the hatchling division all the way to the adult dragon division.

Her age was indeed the youngest among all the students.

“But all those adult dragons together might not even be able to beat our underage big sister.”

Aurora hopped down from her chair, a strawberry-flavored lollipop hanging from her mouth. She squeezed up to the door as well and squinted inside like Leon.

“Hey, they all look pretty full of themselves, huh.”

After a brief pause, Aurora suddenly realized something and turned around with a serious face to ask Leon,

“Dad, can I skip grades and go straight to the adult dragon division?”

Leon froze.

“Your big sister didn’t even skip grades. Why would you want to?”

Aurora raised her thumb and pointed inside the check-in office.

“Because those grown-up brothers look like they’d be really fun.”

“...Graduate from the young dragon division first, then we’ll talk.”

“By the way, Dad, does the adult dragon division also get weekly breaks?” Moon asked.

Leon shook his head.

“I’m not sure about that. I didn’t grow up in dragon society. How would I know the rules of dragon schools?”

He then looked up at Rosvisser.

“There are no fixed holidays once you enter the adult dragon division, Moon.”

Rosvisser explained patiently.

“But after completing each mission, you can rest for a day or two.”

Moon bit her lip softly.

“Then won’t it be hard for me to see my sister anymore?”

Rosvisser smiled and pinched her precious daughter’s cheek.

“Not necessarily. With your sister’s execution speed and efficiency, you’ll probably see her every few days.”

Hearing that, Moon’s eyes lit up, and even the little cowlick on her head bounced.

“Really? That’s great~”

As the family chatted, hurried footsteps suddenly sounded from inside the check-in office.

Leon and Aurora immediately stepped back from the doorway.

The door to the office was flung open.

The students poured out in a swarm and hurried toward the stairway at the end of the corridor.

Leon blinked.

“What’s going on?”

As he spoke, Noa and Helena finally walked out behind them.

“What happened, Noa? Why do those students look so rushed?” Rosvisser asked in confusion.

Noa’s expression was serious.

“Just like Helena said. Right after we finished the check-in procedures, we received our first mission.”

“What, rushing to the cafeteria to fight over black steak?” Aurora quipped from the side.

Noa shook her head.

“It’s a support mission. Senior Yuna and her group ran into danger on their way back.”
