The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 495: Chapter 495: Gained No Advantage

Uncle Zhang brought a large group of people with him, and they all headed to Jinshan Bay.

Yang Jianguo’s face was grim. ”Those people are up to no good. They’re probably going to bully Second Uncle again.”

Ye Feng comforted him, ”Those people are definitely looking for a payout, but Uncle Yang has it all figured out now. If they cause trouble, he’ll just call the police.”

Yang Jianguo nodded. At this point, that was all they could do.

When they arrived at Jinshan Bay, Uncle Zhang immediately started making demands, just as expected. ”Yang Zhigang, my sister was perfectly fine! How could she go to the United States and end up dead?”

Yang Zhigang was mentally prepared. ”Your sister and I were already divorced. When she left, I gave her half of everything I owned. I don’t owe her anything. Her going to the United States was her own business. As for how she died, I asked the person who delivered her ashes. They said it was a heart attack.”

”The ashes are here now. If you want to bury Zhang Xiufang, I’ll give them to you. If you don’t, then I’ll buy a burial plot and lay her to rest myself.”

Aunt Zhang was relentless. ”Our sister was alive and well, and now she’s dead without her own family even seeing her one last time! That’s unacceptable. Who knows if she was murdered?”

Uncle Zhang added, ”Exactly! The Yang Family needs to compensate us for my sister. She may have divorced you, but she’s still your son’s mother. My sister died and was cremated before her family could even get there. How is that right? For all we know, you people killed her!”

In the past, Yang Zhigang would have been furious, but now he saw right through them.

”It’s not just you who’s suspicious—I am too. Yang Jianming is my son, but even I don’t know what he’s doing abroad. If you’re not satisfied, you can call the police. Or you can go to the United States and file a report there. If you’re trying to pin this on me, it’s not going to work.”

If Zhang Xiufang and Yang Zhigang hadn’t divorced, he truly wouldn’t have been able to avoid responsibility in this matter.

But they were clearly divorced now, so the Zhang Family’s unreasonable pestering was completely baseless.

”So what if you’re divorced?” Aunt Zhang cursed. ”Yang Jianming is still your son! The monk can run, but the temple can’t. The United States is so far away, where are we supposed to find Yang Jianming? Either you get him to come back, or this isn’t over!”

”That’s right, this isn’t over! A woman of the Zhang Family can’t just die like this. It’s absolutely unacceptable for the Yang Family to offer nothing.”

”Yeah! How could you get off so easy? You have to give the Zhang family an explanation. If you don’t, we’ll smash up your house!”

...

The Zhang family had brought many people, and now they were rolling up their sleeves, ready for a fight.

Seeing this, the people from Jinshan Bay were not pleased. Of course, they couldn’t just let outsiders bully Yang Zhigang.

Many people in Jinshan Bay now depended on Yang Zhigang for their livelihood, so they certainly couldn’t stand by and watch him get beaten up.

Just as a brawl was about to break out, Officer Li arrived with his men.

”Everyone, stop! This is a public disturbance. If you keep fighting, you’ll all be detained.” Officer Li’s voice instantly calmed everyone down.

Uncle Zhang said, ”My sister died under suspicious circumstances, and we came to the Yang Family to demand justice, but Yang Zhigang denies any responsibility. How can you expect us to just swallow this? This is a matter of life and death!”

Officer Li nodded. ”Regarding your sister Zhang Xiufang’s death, if you find it suspicious, you can file a police report. After all, she passed away in the United States. Causing a scene at Yang Zhigang’s home is inappropriate and illegal, especially since they were divorced. This doesn’t even qualify as a domestic dispute.”

Uncle Zhang was taken aback. ”If I file a report, are you telling me you can actually go to the United States and arrest Yang Jianming?”

Officer Li shook his head. ”No, we don’t have jurisdiction in the United States. However, the moment Yang Jianming returns to the country, we will find him to understand the situation and require him to provide the truth about Zhang Xiufang’s death, along with relevant documentation.”

”If you don’t agree with our methods, you can find a way to go to the United States and file a report there. In any case, fighting and causing trouble here is wrong. I’ll arrest whoever throws the first punch.”

The people with the Zhang family retreated one by one.

In truth, they had just been called over to help out. Now that they faced being arrested, they lost their nerve.

They couldn’t get themselves thrown in detention just for helping someone out.

Uncle Zhang and Aunt Zhang knew they wouldn’t get any advantage today. ”Fine, we’ll file a report. The moment Yang Jianming returns, you have to investigate and prove whether or not Zhang Xiufang was murdered.”

Officer Li nodded. ”We can do that.”

In fact, Yang Jianming had sent back a hospital diagnosis report which did state the cause of death was a heart attack, but it didn’t specify the circumstances surrounding it.

Seeing the Zhang family about to leave, Yang Zhigang pointed at Zhang Xiufang’s ashes. ”Are you going to take these with you?”

Uncle Zhang hadn’t wanted to take them, but he still wanted leverage over Yang Jianming. So, he gritted his teeth and said, ”She’s my sister. Of course I’m taking her. She won’t be buried until Yang Jianming comes back to the country. As her younger brother, I have to get justice for her.”

In any case, this matter wasn’t over.

Hearing this, Yang Zhigang nodded. ”Fine. I also think this matter should wait until Yang Jianming returns to be settled once and for all.”

He would take out a newspaper ad the very next day to disown Yang Jianming.

Although such a move wasn’t legally binding, Yang Zhigang had been pushed to his breaking point.

The Zhang family left with Zhang Xiufang’s ashes, having failed to get a single cent.

When Yang Jianguo learned that his second uncle was going to publish a newspaper announcement to disown Yang Jianming, he stopped him. ”Second Uncle, I know you’re angry and you don’t want Jianming as your son anymore. But you have to think about the four children. If this becomes a huge public scandal, more people will know, and the kids will be subjected to gossip in the future. It’s better if we do nothing. After a while, the whole thing will blow over and be forgotten.”

Hearing this, Yang Zhigang gritted his teeth. ”I... I’m about to be driven to my grave by that bastard Yang Jianming! Zhang Xiufang was his own mother, and he just had someone send the ashes back without even returning himself. A person like that is worse than an animal.”

’Yang Jianguo thought the same. His cousin really had gone too far. He was what Han Xiaorui would call a ”refined egoist”—someone who only ever thought of himself and never others.’

’He stirs up trouble and just leaves others to clean up the mess while he hides far away.’

’The key thing is, his actions are immoral, but not illegal.’

’Even if people gossip and curse him out, Yang Jianming is on the other side of the ocean. He can’t hear them, and he wouldn’t care anyway.’

Han Xiaorui then offered, ”Uncle Yang, would you like Ye Feng to look into Yang Jianming’s situation abroad for you?”

Yang Zhigang had initially intended to refuse, but deep down, he was itching for a chance to thrash Yang Jianming. He knew stewing in silent anger was pointless, so he nodded. ”Ye Feng, I’ll have to trouble you. Please help me find out what that son of a bitch has been up to in the United States. Whatever it costs, I’ll pay you.”

Ye Feng agreed. ”Okay, I’ll find a way to get it done. Uncle Yang, don’t worry, and try not to be angry.”

Yang Zhigang nodded. ”I’m not angry anymore. I have to live a good, long life. I still have my granddaughters, after all.”

The only reason Yang Zhigang was still holding on was because of his four granddaughters. Otherwise, with his temperament, he would have collapsed long ago.

Ye Feng used his maternal uncle’s connections in the United States and paid to have someone investigate. About half a month later, the findings were sent back.
