Immortal of the Nine Realms

When everyone disembarked from the ship, it turned around and set sail back.

Fang Chen stood quietly in the harbor. The local fishermen seemed accustomed to outsiders as they had only casually glanced at Fang Chen before going about their own business. Liu Mu stood quietly behind Fang Chen, not making a sound.

Hovering above the island with his divine soul, Fang Chen roughly estimated the island’s size. It was larger than the capital city of Grand Xia. There were seemingly dozens of villages on the island, with tens of thousands of mortals.

In the distance, Fang Chen could see that there were many young Daoist disciples inside the Clear Sky Monastery. Some sat facing the rising sun as they practiced their breathing exercises, while others were cleaning the courtyard. There were about a hundred of them in total.

However, they were not cultivators, but martial artists. Their levels ranged from the Earth Profound Realm to the Heavenly Profound Realm. Those at the Heavenly Profound Realm were mostly the older ones.

He could only sense five cultivators in the entire Clear Sky Monastery. The most powerful aura naturally belonged to the Temple Master of the Clear Sky Monastery. The other four were only at the third level to the sixth level of Qi Refining.

There was a courtyard deep within the Clear Sky Monastery. The entire courtyard was covered in the faint fragrance of medicine. There was a spiritual field inside the courtyard as well as a moderately sized spiritual spring. The source of the spring was about the size of a fist, and it was continuously gushing out water rich in spiritual energy. Although not as abundant as the one in front of the Fang Clan’s mansion, it was still plentiful.

The spiritual field was planted with dozens of different types of spiritual herbs. While they couldn’t compare to the hundred-year-old Vermilion Fruits or hundred-year-old Blood Ginseng, their effects were still considered miraculous to mortals, snatching people from the jaws of death.

Indeed, every territory chosen by cultivators seems to have some spiritual objects. This island appears ordinary from the outside, but it possesses a natural spiritual field and spring, thought Fang Chen, his mind stirring slightly.

Perhaps, this was the difference between sects and cultivators without roots.

And naturally, the stronger a sect was, the more spiritual springs and spiritual fields they’d possess. There might even be other, more fascinating types of spiritual objects beyond one’s imagination.

Suddenly, the scent of medicine swept out from a certain room.

The room’s door was pushed open and the old Daoist stepped outside holding a silver tray in his hand, on which lay ten neatly arranged pills the size of longan fruits. The pills were pure white and they had a rich fragrance to them.

Immediately after, four Daoists led Li Huafeng into the courtyard, arriving in front of the old Daoist.

The four Daoists bowed respectfully. ”Master,” they echoed in sync.

These were the four other cultivators Fang Chen had sensed.

Li Huafeng had already been a pale, nervous wreck the moment he was dragged into the courtyard, but when he saw the pills, deep fear appeared in his eyes. ”Master, I was wrong! I really know I was wrong!”

The old Daoist remained indifferent to his cries, ignoring him. He had a disciple forcefully feed a pill into Li Huafeng’s mouth. Li Huafeng stirred and refused to swallow the pill, but he didn’t need to, as the pill melted in his mouth and down his throat.

Everyone quietly observed Li Huafeng. After a while, Li Huafeng suddenly spat out blood, and his hair started turning white at a staggering rate.

He looked dejected, his eyes filled with despair.

At this moment, he really wished he’d never had the chance to become a cultivator. If only he had stayed back at Grand Xia, how nice life would’ve still been!

The old Daoist sighed softly, immediately destroying all the pills on the tray. ”Another wasted batch.”

Suddenly, a white hawk falcon flew down from the sky and perched on the shoulder of one of the Daoists. Glancing at it briefly, he turned to the old Daoist. “Master, it spotted a newly arrived cultivator on the island.”

”Come with me. Let’s have a look,” said the old Daoist calmly.

Fang Chen’s eyes loomed over at the white hawk for a moment before he retracted his divine soul back. With Liu Mu, he headed straight to the Clear Sky Monastery.

By the time the two arrived before the gates of the monastery, dozens of Daoists had already gathered outside. They looked at Fang Chen and Liu Mu with cold eyes. The middle-aged Daoist who led them was the first to open his mouth. ”State your name,” he said in a plain tone.

”Tell your sect master that Fang Chen from Grand Xia is here,” replied Fang Chen with a faint smile.

The middle-aged Daoist furrowed his brow. He had heard of this small empire, but in his eyes, a mere ninth-tier empire was akin to a colony of ants. How could someone from that place come to their island?

”Do you know where you are?” asked the middle-aged Daoist coldly. ”My Clear Sky Monastery is not a place where just anyone can enter.”

”What right does a paltry gatekeeper with no cultivation such as yourself have to tell me that?” retorted Fang Chen with a light smile. “Clear Sky Monastery Master, isn’t it a little humiliating for you to allow him to intimidate me?”

The middle-aged Daoist’s expression changed slightly. How could he tell that I’ve no cultivation? The middle-aged Daoist was shocked. Was he an immortal master? How can there be an immortal master hailing from a ninth-tier empire like Grand Xia?

He himself was from a seventh-tier empire and had struggled immensely to finally obtain the opportunity to become a disciple of the Clear Sky Monastery in hopes of following an immortal master. Naturally, he understood how difficult it was to become one!

Just then, a young Daoist stepped forward from beyond the gate. Those who had gathered outside greeted him respectfully.

”Please come inside, Sir,” invited the young Daoist calmly, looking at Fang Chen.

Fang Chen smiled and followed the young Daoist into the monastery with Liu Mu. Before long, he arrived before the old Daoist, who had three other disciples flanking him. They all stared at him intently.

”What brings you here, young friend?” asked the old Daoist calmly.

A smile tugged at Fang Chen’s lips. ”Did you forget that you killed people in the Grand Xia capital city not long ago?”

The old Daoist was slightly taken aback, but briefly later, his face turned disdainful. ”You didn’t dare to confront me back then. Now you are so brave as to come to me at my Clear Sky Monastery?” ℯ

”When cultivators fight, there may inevitably be collateral damage. I don’t want harm to befall the citizens of my empire.”

The old Daoist’s disciples were bemused and suspicious. Was the kid before them at the Foundation Building Realm? But that was impossible! However, if he wasn’t at the Foundation Building Realm, how did he find the guts to speak to their master in such a manner?

”Let’s not beat about the bush, Young Friend Fang. Why are you here?” mouthed the old Daoist calmly.

”But I already told you?” countered Fang Chen with a smile. “Do you not believe me?”

The old Daoist let out a chuckle. ”You went ahead and spent spirit stones to come all the way on the account of a few dead mortals?”

”Well, what a pity it is. That’s exactly what I did.”

A water dragon tens of yards long condensed and rushed at Fang Chen.

”Are you afraid that you will damage your monastery if you use the power of Earth?” A faint trace of mockery flashed in Fang Chen’s eyes before a Purple Lightning Talisman was thrown out.

A blinding purple light suddenly filled the eyes of everyone.

The terrifying power of lightning instantly swallowed the water dragon and the old Daoist behind it.

The floor, the roof... it was all gone. Everything the lightning touched was reduced to ash!

When he threw out this Purple Lightning Talisman, Fang Chen had already retreated with Liu Mu.

After the thunderous light dissipated, what lay before their eyes was a scene of absolute destruction. The four disciples of the old Daoist now lay as charred corpses. A gentle breeze might be able to carry them away.

The only person left standing was the old Daoist.

The protective shield around his body had become very thin. His complexion was pallid. It seemed that blocking the talisman had consumed most of his strength.

The ordinary disciples who came upon hearing the news were all shocked and stood frozen in place, afraid to move.

”Alright, we can be sure of it now. It’s definitely a top-grade Purple Lightning Talisman...” muttered Fang Chen softly.

He wasn’t originally sure whether the Purple Lightning Talisman he made was only of the high grade or if it had reached the top grade, but now that he had tested it, he could now be sure that they were of the top grade.

The destructive power of a high-quality Purple Lightning Talisman couldn’t be much stronger than that of a mid-grade one; only the top-quality one could instantly kill several cultivators, and only those at the twelfth level of the Qi Refining Realm could barely resist it.
