The Wealthy Tycoon's Game of Life

Chapter 1295: Chapter 498: Hidden and Great—Middle Chapter 2

”I was also brought here by Zhiyuan.”

Zhang Shiling said softly.

”So none of you have met Mr. Zhou? I was brought here by Mr. Zhou’s assistant, Miss Xu. I thought Mr. Zhou wanted to talk to me privately about something.”

Liu Heng, who was pouring himself a drink from a bottle of 30-year-old Macallan whisky priced at over a hundred thousand yuan, paused and couldn’t help but frown, ”Mr. Guo, Mr. Zhang, could you please call Mr. Zhou and ask... After all, myself, Mr. Liu, and President Shen aren’t that familiar with Mr. Zhou.”

”I’ll make the call.”

Guo Wangshan also found it a bit strange and immediately took out his phone, but as soon as he did, his expression froze.

”Mr. Guo, what’s wrong?”

”My phone seems to have no signal...”

”Let me try calling.”

He Jinglun, who had previously exchanged contact information with Zhou Wang, also took out his phone immediately, but soon, his expression turned astonished.

”My phone has no signal either.”

”Hmm?”

The remaining few people heard this and quickly pulled out their phones to check, only to have their expressions change slightly, exchanging looks with each other.

Clearly, their phones, without exception, all had no signal.

”Could it be because this room is in a remote location?”

Liu Heng tried to walk to the window.

”This is a Grade A office building in the Magic City Center. Even in the parking lot or elevator, the signal would definitely be full, let alone indoors. It has nothing to do with the location...”

Chen Qiaosheng frowned in response, then quickly got up and walked towards the vestibule.

A moment later, Chen Qiaosheng returned with a grim expression, ”The door is locked from the outside, and it won’t open... Mr. Guo?”

Guo Wangshan was also amazed when he heard this, ”The door closed on its own when I entered, I didn’t touch it...”

At this point, everyone was becoming a bit unsettled.

The room door was locked from the outside, and everyone’s phones had coincidentally lost signal, none of this sounded like unrelated coincidences...

”What is Mr. Zhou trying to do?”

Shen Li said in disbelief, ”We’ve been tricked into being locked here, but what’s the point?”

Everyone frowned in silence, thinking about something unknown, while Guo Wangshan subconsciously shook his head, ”Brother Zhou wouldn’t play such a boring joke... Even though I can’t think of any other possibilities right now.”

After saying this, Guo Wangshan also turned around to return to the vestibule to check, and sure enough, just like Chen Qiaosheng said, the door was firmly locked from the outside and wouldn’t open.

”Everyone... Could it be that this wasn’t actually Mr. Zhou’s intention?”

At this moment, Zhang Shiling, whose face had turned pale and seemed uncomfortable, couldn’t help but speak up.

”Shiling, what do you mean? Weren’t we all invited by Mr. Zhou?”

Chen Qiaosheng, who seemed quite familiar with Zhang Shiling, asked puzzledly.

”Don’t you find it strange, why only the six of us, plus the arrangement in this room, one table, seven seats... This is how we arranged the Wangjiang Association back then, right?”

Zhang Shiling muttered.

When they heard the three words that Zhang Shiling said, except for Guo Wangshan who only frowned, the expressions of the others all changed.

”Mr. Zhang, why bring up those old matters... Wasn’t the Wangjiang Association dissolved long ago?”

”Just because it was dissolved, does that erase everything from the past?”

Zhang Shiling sneered, his eyes sweeping over the other men in the room, ”Besides, it’s not exactly ancient history, only two or three years ago... Of course, everyone’s assets have presumably multiplied several times, looking at the changes in your family backgrounds, it indeed feels like a lifetime ago.”

”Mr. Zhang, what’s with your sarcastic tone?”

He Jinglun said somewhat dissatisfied, ”I don’t know who you’re trying to mock, but when our temporary merchants association was still intact, you also benefited quite a bit, didn’t you?”

”I did benefit, but... my mind is uneasy. Gentlemen, I want to ask you, can you really be at ease?”

”Ridiculous, why wouldn’t we be at ease?”

Liu Heng said in a deep voice, ”If you mean that matter... that was Guo Sanli getting what he deserved!”

”Enough!”

Finally having heard enough, Guo Wangshan’s face turned stern, and he reprimanded, ”Gentlemen, have you forgotten our past agreement to talk only about the future and not the past... Also, I don’t want to hear that name again.”

Given Guo Wangshan’s status among the people, normally when he spoke, everyone would drop the topic, and indeed Chen Qiaosheng, He Jinglun, and others were about to stop discussing this altogether, but Zhang Shiling seemed to have no such intention.

”Mr. Guo, some things are beyond our control...”

”Shiling, what’s gotten into you today, have you been provoked?”

Guo Wangshan frowned.

Zhang Shiling chuckled neurotically, ”Provoked, not quite... It’s just that before entering this meeting room, I received this message.”

As he spoke, Zhang Shiling unlocked his phone and placed it on the table.

Guo Wangshan glanced down at it, and the others curiously leaned over, their expressions changing upon reading the contents of the anonymous message.

”Thank you for leaving loose ends, today, blood for blood.”

This seemingly senseless message took on a pointed implication in this context, making everyone’s expressions turn uncertain.

”I originally thought it was a prank and didn’t take it to heart.”

At this point, Zhang Shiling explained with a dazed expression, ”Until I entered this conference room and saw all of you, and now, we’re essentially trapped here, and if I’m not mistaken, you all came here alone, right?”

No one spoke, but their somber expressions had admitted it.

None of them had brought an assistant or a bodyguard, and driven by subconscious trust in Zhou Wang, they all came alone.

”But if your guess is true, this is a revenge from the Jiangnan Guo Family... why would Mr. Zhou help them?”

Chen Qiaosheng couldn’t help but voice his query.

”Brother Zhou and Guo Nansheng were college roommates, their relationship was really good in the past... if that’s what you’re wondering about Mr. Zhou’s connection to their family.”

The only one aware, Guo Wangshan, explained first. As everyone’s expressions changed, Guo Wangshan shook his head and said, ”But I don’t believe all this is really orchestrated by Brother Zhou. He’s likely being used.”

”Mr. Guo, how can you be so sure?”

He Jinglun asked puzzledly, ”I know you have a good connection with Zhou Wang. Your reminder stopped me from rashly offending him, and even encouraged me to make friends with him... But isn’t it common for a young man to impulsively help a dorm mate?”

”Mr. He, the term should be ’impulsively’...”

Feeling irritated, Zhang Shiling subconsciously corrected, but he too stared at Guo Wangshan, wanting to know why he was so convinced that Zhou Wang and Guo Nansheng were not in league together.

Chen Qiaosheng and others didn’t speak, but their expressions varied, some thoughtful, some frowning in confusion, and some showing realization.

Seeing there was still no signal on his phone, Guo Wangshan thought for a moment, sat down at the table, and lit a cigarette.

”In the past, due to some concerns and my own uncertainty, I never told you all about certain things. Of course, I believe some of you may have already guessed.”

As he spoke, Guo Wangshan pointed to the lone seat placed at the head position.

”You all remember that even in our Wangjiang Association there was always an empty seat at the head, right?”

Zhang Shiling nodded upon hearing this.

”Of course I remember... I also recall asking you why you left the head seat vacant, and you told me it was because this unregistered secret business association wouldn’t last too long, so we didn’t set a president. The empty seat was just a reminder that we’re always in an equal cooperative relationship.”

”Well, what if I tell you now... that this seat has never been empty?”

Guo Wangshan said calmly, his eyes deep.
