The Wealthy Tycoon's Game of Life

Chapter 1275: Chapter 489: Retreat

”It’s me who doesn’t plan on getting married.”

There was a moment of hesitation and frustration in Xia Xiwei’s eyes, but soon, she hid those emotions. She seemed to have figured something out, her expression regained its firmness, and facing Yan Baiqiu’s incredulous look, Xia Xiwei took a deep breath and said:

”I believe in love, but I don’t trust marriage. As long as two people love each other, what’s the difference if there’s a piece of paper or not?”

”Xixi, do you know how ridiculous what you’re saying is?”

Yan Baiqiu’s face turned very unpleasant, trying hard to suppress her volume, she scolded, ”Do you think you are still an eighteen-year-old girl, how can you say such irresponsible things?”

”Well, it’s because I’ve seen too many tragedies, haven’t I?”

Xia Xiwei smiled with meaning, ”I don’t want to face my partner with a forced smile after the relationship has soured, when it’s already painful enough. Without the constraints of marriage, we’re essentially free, aren’t we?”

”You... you’re being ridiculous!”

Yan Baiqiu was shaking with anger, but since they were in a public place and given the subtle relationship between her and Xia Xiwei, she found it hard to erupt, so she directly turned her gaze to Zhou Wang, who was somewhat in a daze.

”Xiao Zhou, what about you, what do you think, do you also not want to take responsibility?”

”I...”

Zhou Wang just started to speak, but was interrupted by Xia Xiwei beside him.

”Mother, don’t ask him, no matter what he says, it doesn’t matter. This is my view, and no one can change it.”

”Fine, fine, then you go explain it to your father yourself!”

On the verge of losing composure, Yan Baiqiu left after leaving that remark, turning what was originally a harmonious dinner table atmosphere into scattered fragments.

Zhou Dajun and Zhao Guihua were basically in a state of complete bewilderment throughout, unable to chime in earlier, and now they were also somewhat at a loss, not knowing what to do for a moment.

”Wangwang, are you... really dating this Miss Xia?”

Zhao Guihua finally looked towards her son, unable to resist asking softly, ”Then... what about Ranran, and Qingkui...”

”Dad, Mom, I’ll explain to you later.”

Equally a bit troubled, Zhou Wang could only first reassure his parents, ”Dad, you should take Mom to get something to eat first, I’ll talk to Xixi privately.”

Zhou Dajun, though unclear about the situation, could sense from Zhou Wang’s troubled expression that there might be more to the story, so he nodded in understanding and led Zhao Guihua away.

After his parents left, Zhou Wang looked at Xia Xiwei, wanting to say something but finding himself at a loss for words,

Honestly, Zhou Wang was really a bit miffed about Xia Xiwei’s bold move just now.

If his parents were really set on Xia Xiwei being their daughter-in-law, he would have very little room to maneuver later, and it would be even harder to deal with the pressure from Xia Xiwei’s family.

So at that moment, he was seriously considering explaining things clearly to Yan Baiqiu —

I have a clean relationship with Xia Xiwei, I haven’t even held her hand, um, or kissed her mouth.

Anyway, he didn’t have much psychological burden, since he and Xia Xiwei weren’t real boyfriend and girlfriend. Although it felt a bit regretful to give up on this Big Bear Sweet Sister, Zhou Wang couldn’t ignore the feelings of other women, right?

...After all, he was a responsible man.

However, the look in Xia Xiwei’s eyes for that fleeting instant before she spoke did soften Zhou Wang’s heart.

Like a little girl afraid of being abandoned, trying hard to hold on to something, Zhou Wang also saw her regret.

So after Xia Xiwei took the first step to express her stance, Zhou Wang didn’t continue to speak, letting Xia Xiwei handle it herself.

But he really didn’t expect Xia Xiwei to pull the ”non-marriage belief” card.

Now that Yan Baiqiu had left, Yan Siyun had not yet left.

She just briefly looked at Xia Xiwei with curiosity, then suddenly leaned over to Xia Xiwei and, in a volume that Zhou Wang could also hear, said:

”Xixi, this is just between you and me, you can’t tell anyone... actually, your aunt here is also a non-marriage believer, so at least your aunt supports you.”

While Xia Xiwei was somewhat stunned, Yan Siyun gestured with her fist towards Xia Xiwei and Zhou Wang to show support, then hurriedly went to catch up with Yan Baiqiu.

At this point, Zhou Wang and Xia Xiwei were the only ones left at the dinner table.

Zhou Wang looked at Xia Xiwei, and Xia Xiwei looked at Zhou Wang.

Before Zhou Wang could finally organize his words and speak, Xia Xiwei suddenly leaned over, gently resting her head on Zhou Wang’s shoulder.

”Don’t move, let me lean for a bit, just for a moment.”

Hearing Xia Xiwei’s low, somewhat melancholic tone, Zhou Wang couldn’t bring himself to push her away, he could only look around nervously, luckily, it seemed not many people were paying attention.

”So, are you satisfied now?”

Xia Xiwei only leaned for a few seconds before lifting her head, lightly laughing as she spoke.

”What am I satisfied with?”

Somehow feeling guilty, Zhou Wang asked, looking at Xia Xiwei’s immensely captivating big eyes.

”I’ve given you a legitimate reason not to take responsibility for me, isn’t that enough?”

Xia Xiwei pouted, appearing aggrieved.

”Hey, hey, please understand, our relationship was fake to begin with, don’t subtly guilt trip me...”

Zhou Wang remained cautious, after all, he was dealing with a professional actress... despite Xia Xiwei’s pure and sweet appearance being incredibly deceptive.
