My Cards are Infinitely Refreshed

195: White tactical card, strange placement of Shi LiChapter 195: White Tactic Card, Shi Li’s Strange Placement

”In that case, Brother Wang Defa, you will take over Leo’s task.”

”You will be responsible for deploying 1 Damage-Taker Chess and 1 Output Chess.”

Captain 21 thought for a moment, but then changed her tone again: ”But don’t be in a hurry to enter the field; just follow my arrangements.”

Originally, her plan for the first round’s three Chess pieces included Leo, but now she had changed her mind.

”Alright.”

Shi Li wasn’t actually in a hurry.

Because he had always played PVE in Chess Domain and had almost no PVP combat experience.

At most, he would start a few simulated Chess games himself to explore the rules.

He had never experienced a multi-person PVP Chess game.

Now was a good time to observe first.

On the other side, the person responsible for commanding and assigning tasks was a stern-faced man.

He had been relatively quiet from the beginning, only responsible for standing by.

It wasn’t until it was time for real action that he took over the right to speak.

But even the Blazing Red Team wouldn’t ignore his presence.

Because he was Mo La, the general captain of the Blacklight Team’s 2nd squadron.

A Emerald 10, a Chess player who had reached the peak of the Emerald rank.

The Blacklight Team completed their tactical deployment first, so they began to provoke.

”Little Red Team, are you going to fight or not after all that dawdling?”

”You might as well have given us the boss from the start; adding another Chess game will only make you more embarrassed.”

Amidst their taunts, the Blazing Red Team finally completed their tactical deployment.

The two sides began the Chess game, and battle was imminent.

On the Blazing Red Team’s side, the other three captains were the first to deploy.

They each sent out 2 Listening Wind System Chess pieces and 1 Steadfast System Chess piece.

In a PVP Chess game, this is a very common tactic.

A Charge playstyle primarily using Listening Wind System first.

Don’t be fooled by the shrinking Chess board, which forcibly pushes the edge Listening Wind pieces, causing them to be unable to Charge and thus deducting Energy.

But there are two main reasons why this tactic is prevalent.

The first point is that even so, the Charging efficiency of Listening Wind pieces is still very high.

Not moving for 1 round can restore 30 Energy, moving deducts 10 Energy.

Even if you don’t move for 1 round and move for 1 round, that still adds up to 20 Energy restored.

If the Movement distance is a bit further, a few more squares from the shrinking edge.

Then it’s entirely possible to move for 1 round and remain Still for multiple rounds.

The second point is the size of the Chess board.

The size of the Chess board, how many rows shrink at once, or even delaying the map shrinkage until which round it starts, these are all negotiated in advance by the two opposing sides.

Because the two teams were not very friendly, they did not truly discuss the Chess board conditions face-to-face.

So they used the default PVP Chess board, 15x15.

The default PVP Chess board has many squares; the red deployment zone in the first round is 14 squares away from the green deployment zone.

The initial Movement ability of a Chess piece is 3, increasing by 1 for each star it gains.

So a four-star Chess piece has a Movement ability of 7.

To cover a distance of 14 squares, it would barely take at least 2 rounds.

The enemy would only arrive in the second round, which means the Listening Wind Chess piece has 2 rounds of Charging time.

2 rounds can Charge 60 Energy.

This is definitely much stronger than other types of Chess pieces.

What’s more, on the default PVP Chess board, the Chess board shrinkage only begins in the 3rd round.

So using the Listen to the Wind Charge tactic from the start is definitely the correct choice for most teams.

The two Listening Wind Chess pieces on the Blazing Red Team’s side, one is Healing-oriented, and the other is Output-oriented.

As for the other Steadfast System piece, it is naturally a Damage-Taker Chess piece.

Deploying a Damage-Taker Chess piece in the first round isn’t because they’re worried about an ambush.

Rather, only 1 Chess piece can be deployed in each subsequent round, and if the Damage-Taker Chess piece is deployed too late, it might lead to insufficient Defense.

In such relatively small-scale Chess games, at least 2 Damage-Taker Chess pieces are usually needed on the field to protect one’s Chess group.

With only 1, there’s a possibility of being bypassed by the enemy due to its small alert range.

Similar to card games, deployment in Chess games also has no order of priority.

After the Blazing Red Team completed its deployment, the Blacklight Team also began to deploy the Chess pieces they had already decided upon.

”Cut them all down!”

The first Chess piece Mo La deployed was a bald man holding a large scythe in each hand.

Many metal parts were exposed on his body, but compared to cybernetic implantation technology, this looked more like some kind of witchcraft combined with metal.

”Scythe Alchemist”

Chasing Wind, 30 points, Four-star Attack 20, 100/100, 0/60

Movement Distance 9, Attack Distance 1

”Fel Energy Wind Scythe - Characteristic”: Scythe Alchemist’s Attack -10. If Movement distance exceeds 10 squares this round, Energy is fully Charged.

”Wind Slash Scythe - Passive”: When Scythe Alchemist attacks a Listening Wind piece, Attack +10.

”Fel Energy Blood Scythe - Passive”: If Scythe Alchemist kills 1 target, immediately gains 1 additional independent turn with Movement Distance -5.

”Fel Energy Spinning Scythe - 30 Energy”: Scythe Alchemist attacks 1 target and moves back 2 squares.

”Fel Energy Scythe Tide - 60 Energy”: Scythe Alchemist attacks 1 target, dealing an additional 60 damage.

”Interesting.”

Shi Li looked at the opponent’s panel and couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

The tactical Characteristics of this Chess piece are quite distinct.

First, to maximize its combat power, it must trigger its Characteristic’s full Energy Charge as much as possible to unleash the high damage of 20+60 from ”Scythe Tide.”

To trigger the Characteristic, the Scythe Alchemist must move a distance exceeding its own Movement distance limit.

How to achieve this? The answer is simple.

That is to move twice.

So, if the opponent wants to trigger the Characteristic, there are only two modes.

The first type is to cause a kill to trigger ”Bloodthirsty Scythe” and take two actions.

In a Chess game, because there are different turn orders within the same round, there is no longer a situation where everyone attacks simultaneously as in a card game.

Therefore, the concept of ”participating in a kill” has been weakened to a certain extent.

And ”causing a kill” refers to a kill personally caused by the Chess piece.

The second type is to activate the skill ”Whirlwind Attack” to move twice.

The difference between the two is that the former gains additional action opportunities, not just Movement.

Action opportunities also include attacks.

In other words, theoretically, as long as there is a target to kill, the Scythe Alchemist can continuously trigger the ”Bloodthirsty Scythe,” becoming a perpetual motion machine-like existence, until it eliminates all targets on the field within a single round.

It looks like a very powerful reaper-type Chess piece.

However, Shi Li knew that it wasn’t as powerful as it seemed on the surface.

”Wind Flying Scythe - Characteristic”: — ... Movement distance exceeds 10 squares. Highlight: exceeds 10.

This means that even if two actions or Movements are triggered, the same condition must be met.

That is, within this round, the total Movement distance of the Scythe Alchemist’s two Movements must exceed 10 squares.

If it only moved 3 squares during the first basic Movement, then whether it triggers ”Bloodthirsty Scythe” or activates ”Whirlwind Attack,” it would be useless.

So, if you want the Scythe Alchemist to trigger its Characteristic as much as possible, the actual scene would become quite comical.

That is, first let it run 10 squares from the farthest end, attack the enemy, and trigger the Characteristic.

Then, in the next round, it runs out 10 squares again, stays far away, and then runs back in the round after next to trigger the Characteristic.

It’s just that this playstyle is a bit clownish, a bit redundant.

Shi Li even thought that this Chess piece was actually somewhat mediocre.

The reason is simple: Steadfast System Chess pieces.

Steadfast System Chess pieces are its absolute nemesis.

The alert range that reduces Movement ability can completely prevent the Characteristic from triggering.

Let alone the alert range, even some terrains that reduce Movement ability would become a huge obstacle for the Scythe Alchemist.

Of course, the terrain for today’s game is a plaza.

The most common terrain, without any special effects.

Subsequently, the two Chess pieces deployed by the opponent were one Balanced Chess piece and one Berserk Chess piece.

Among them, the Berserk Chess piece was also a Fel Energy Chess piece.

The Balanced Chess piece had a term that Shi Li hadn’t seen much before.

”Advance! Advance!”

Its Chess piece projection was an armored infantryman holding a large banner.

”Jade Banner Bearer”

Balanced, 30 points, Four-star Attack 10, 100/100

Movement Distance 7, Attack Distance 2

”Banner Mark - Characteristic”: Allied Chess pieces can be deployed within the Jade Banner Bearer’s attack range.

”Long-poled Banner - Passive”: Jade Banner Bearer’s Attack -10, Attack Distance +1.

”Steadfast Advance - Passive”: On the round the Jade Banner Bearer is deployed, it is unaffected by alert range.

”Charge Banner - Passive”: Jade Banner Bearer’s Movement Distance -2, allied Chess pieces within its Movement range gain Movement Distance +1.

”Guard Banner - Passive”: Jade Banner Bearer’s Attack -10. After an allied Chess piece within its attack range finishes its turn, that Chess piece gains 10 Shield.

”Something’s not right. Why would Blacklight deploy like this?”

”Deploying a Chess piece like the Jade Banner Bearer I can understand; it’s to make it easier for subsequent allied Chess pieces to approach the enemy camp.”

”But why are they deploying Chasing Wind System and Rage System Chess pieces so far away now, instead of Listening Wind System and Steadfast System?”

”They could have deployed this Chasing Wind and Berserk Chess piece later; deploying them this round won’t allow them to attack the opponent.”

Looking at the Blacklight Team’s deployment, the audience expressed confusion.

Even Shi Li didn’t understand this move by the Blacklight Team.

However, Mo La quickly provided the answer to this question.

As soon as both sides completed their deployment and the action phase arrived.

Before the first turn even began, he pulled out a Tactic Card.

”Shrinking Earth Art - White ☆☆☆”: In the first round of the Chess game, up to 3 of your Chess pieces can instantly move up to 10 squares.

As soon as this Tactic Card was played, the Blacklight Team’s three Chess pieces instantly moved forward 10 squares.

”White Tactic?!”

”It’s a three-star White Tactic!”

The audience immediately gasped in surprise.

Besides the three primary colors of red, green, and blue, Tactic Cards also had two special colors: black and white.

Their difference from regular Tactic Cards was that, in many cases, they had no Chess board color requirements.

White Tactic Cards focused on buffs, while Black Tactic Cards focused on debuffs.

Black and White Tactic Cards were sometimes also called Universal Tactic Cards; they had a wider range of uses and were also rarer.

Just like Mo La’s ”Shrinking Earth Art - White ☆☆☆,” its value was even comparable to some ☆☆☆☆ red, green, and blue Tactic Cards.

”No wonder! So that’s it!”

”Is this the Blacklight Team’s trump card? The reason for their first-round deployment has been found!”

”The Blazing Red Team is using a primary Listen to the Wind Charge tactic, but the Blacklight Team can directly attack the opponent this round, which will disrupt their plans.”

”And with the help of ’Shrinking Earth Art - White ☆☆☆,’ the Scythe Alchemist can easily trigger its Characteristic!”

Indeed, just as the audience analyzed.

The two sides were 14 squares apart, and now that distance was shortened by 10 squares, making it easy for the Blacklight Team’s Chess pieces to reach the opponent.

First, the Jade Banner Bearer went first, moving to the front and attacking one of the opponent’s Chess pieces.

The Blazing Red Team’s three Chess pieces found it difficult to cope with this offensive.

First, their three Chess pieces combined for 90 points, and this round they had no damage-increasing means, so they could at most deal 90 damage, unable to instantly kill any of the opponent’s Chess pieces.

Especially the two Listening Wind Chess pieces, if they chose to Charge in place without moving, they wouldn’t even be able to reach the opponent’s Chess pieces.

On the Blacklight Team’s side, the Fel Energy Berserk Chess piece attacked second, using a burst skill to take out a significant portion of Captain 27’s Defense Listening Wind Chess piece’s health.

Then the Scythe Alchemist acted last, using ”Fel Energy Scythe Tide” to instantly kill Captain 27’s Chess piece.

After the kill, it triggered two actions, and also used an additional normal attack on Captain 32’s Listening Wind Chess piece.

At the end of just the first round, the Blazing Red Team had already lost 10+100+20 = 130 health and had one Chess piece removed from the field.

On the Blacklight Team’s side, the Fel Energy Berserk Chess piece self-damaged 50 health, and their three Chess pieces combined lost 60 health.

The health loss for both sides was 130 to 110, but the key was that the opponent’s Berserk Chess piece had an additional 50 health, so its total health was originally higher than the opponent’s.

Coupled with the Blazing Red Team losing a point first, they were now in a clear disadvantage.

”This—”

Captain 21 looked at the situation, showing a troubled expression.

Such a significant disadvantage appeared in just the first round, making it very difficult to turn the tide.

Under such a disadvantage, with the opponent’s army pressing, deploying either a Damage-Taker Chess piece or an Output Chess piece would yield no benefits.

She didn’t know how to proceed.

”I’ll do it.”

Just then, Shi Li suddenly said.

”You?”

Captain 21 was slightly stunned, then sighed: ”Alright, I guess. This round you need to deploy 1 Damage-Taker Chess piece to maintain the integrity of our lineup as much as possible.”

This was a helpless move born out of desperation.

”No problem.”

Shi Li said so, but deployed his Chess piece in the topmost corner.

The Chess board was 15x15, and the entire rightmost column of green squares were their deployable positions.

In the first round, their three Chess pieces were deployed in the middle of that edge column.

But the corner where Shi Li deployed was about 7 squares away from the combat zone.

Besides the Jade Banner Bearer, which ignored alert range, other enemy Chess pieces would definitely not be able to reach Shi Li’s deployment position in one round if they wanted to cross the alert range of the Blazing Red Team’s Steadfast System Chess piece.

But this position was too far removed from the combat zone to provide any assistance to his side.

”Your Chess piece...” Captain 21 roughly glanced over and found that Shi Li had deployed a Balance System System Chess piece.

It should be known that the Damage-Taker effect of Balance System System is generally far inferior to Steadfast System.

What was this newcomer doing?
