Time passed.

Jeremy has explored many areas around this place, but he has yet to find any berries or corrupted beasts. So he decides to go deeper.

Currently, he is going through the dense vegetation area by cutting out the overgrown bushes and weeds.

Not long after, he finds a naturally opened cave under a small hill. The existence of the cave piqued his interest.

Just as he walks closer to the cave, he hears movements inside. It immediately raises his vigilance.

After hearing the sounds, he is not going to go blindly inside. He then retreats from the place and finds a hidden spot to execute his next plan.

Jeremy decides to use the toad poison. He takes out the poison bottle. After opening the bottle, he begins to smear the poison on the basic grade knife.

Earlier, he thought about using it on the katana blade, but he dismissed that plan. Since he has the knife, he will use it.

About a few minutes later,

He stores the poison bottle back in the storage ring. Then he looks at the knife. The sticky dark green poison has turned black after being smeared.

He holds the knife in his left hand while using his right hand to grip the sword.

He stands up and begins walking back to the cave. After crossing a couple of hundred meters, he arrives at the cave.

Jeremy sees that the cave is dark inside. The daylight only covers the entrance.

Boom!

Jeremy is pondering when he feels the movement again.

A 10-foot-long black bear with blood-red eyes storms out of the cave. A sense of crisis envelops his heart. This beast’s speed is so fast that it catches him off guard.

Without using the starlight energy, he brings the sword downward to block its claws.

Growls!

The black blade immediately touches the claw.

Clang!

The impact force sends Jeremy backward like a broken kite. The knife in his left hand drops to the ground.

Boom!

His body crashes into a tree trunk before coming to a stop.

Argh!

A muffled grunt escapes his mouth. Jeremy feels intense pain in his back. He underestimated the strength of the beast.

From its size and height, he thought it was a Tier-3 corrupted beast. But its height was deceiving. The black beast stands 10 feet tall.

But its strength has reached the barrier. Its next step is Tier-4. Jeremy manages to get up. He sees that the black bear is still standing near the entrance.

He adjusts his combat uniform and holds the sword tightly before slowly walking toward the spot where he dropped the knife.

He arrives at the spot and sees that the knife is on an old tree branch, but it is rotten to the core right now. Jeremy then picks up the knife with his left hand and charges toward the black bear.

Swoosh!

His talent comes into play. He becomes unusually calm. The black beast’s movements are clear in his vision.

Jeremy sees that the black bear is ready to attack. He is not going to foolishly attack from the front.

Growl!

When he gets closer, the bear dashes forward like a mad beast. Its powerful jaw and teeth can tear apart beast tamers like him.

Swoosh!

Jeremy sidesteps to the right to avoid the front claws. The bear steps past him. At that moment, he gets the perfect angle to stab the black beast with his left hand.

Stab!

Jeremy immediately brings down his knife. The knife manages to penetrate slightly, but the power of the flesh blocks further penetration.

He thinks this small stab is enough to poison the black bear.

Growl!

The black beast is enraged. It didn’t expect to be stabbed by a human ant. Before, the beast had always killed human prey.

But this time, the same human prey managed to stab it. It desires to bite the human apart with its jaw.

Jeremy withdraws the knife before retreating. He plans to leave the place for the time being. The toad poison might take time to take effect.

Growl!

The black bear is angry. It’s sprinting toward its human enemy. Just as it’s chasing after its prey, the black bear feels pain in its body.

Since its beast instinct has taken over, it dismisses the pain and continues to pursue the enemy.

On the other hand, Jeremy is shocked. He thought the black bear would give up, but instead, it’s chasing him down. So he runs in circles.

He can only hope that the poison will work.

About 10 minutes later,

The black bear stops moving. The bear realizes that something is happening to it. Its breathing is getting harder, and its movements are slowing.

Finally, the black beast drops dead on the ground.

Jeremy, who is fleeing, comes to a stop after realizing that the bear is no longer chasing him. He immediately turns around and starts going back.

Shortly afterward,

He sees the corpse of the black bear. His eyes flicker. As he expected, the toad poison is not ordinary. Then he puts the body of the black bear into the storage ring.

There are only a few useful items to be found in corrupted beasts, for example, sharp teeth, tails, and claws. The meat is poisonous to humans because of the mutations.

But they can eat meat from regular beasts that are not mutated.

Jeremy carefully walks back to the cave. He uses a device light to explore the cave. When he goes deeper, the smell of filth attacks his nostrils.

He spots broken skeletons all over the place. They must be the leftover food of the bear. So he ignores them and starts looking for something useful.

”Hmmm,” Jeremy raises his eyebrows in surprise.

He sees purple berries on the ground. They are the size of a human fist, and he notices that most of them are half bitten.

Jeremy picks one of them up before carefully observing it.

”It’s indeed one of the berry species,” Jeremy mutters to himself.

The mission is to find berry fruit growing areas, but it doesn’t specify what type of berry fruits. However, Jeremy thinks he can use this fruit for the mission submission.

But before that, he needs to find the tree.
