Pillar of Yita

It seems they picked the wrong place.

Tonight, they should have just enough time to move to the next excavation site, but if there’s another mistake, a whole night’s work could be wasted. And who knows when the sky pirates imprisoned on the platform might realize what’s happening.

The time left for them is not much.

”Come back, Elisa,” Fang Hong answered, ”be careful.”

”Wait, Captain.” Elisa’s voice changed slightly as she spotted two people approaching from afar through the bushes. She hadn’t seen these two before, but their attire immediately put her on high alert.

She was very familiar with those gray robes and the flicker in their hands.

She adjusted her voice slightly, lowered it, and said, ”It’s Dragon Worshippers, Captain.”

”You saw them?”

Elisa nodded, ”Judging by the people I’ve seen in the Rain Listeners, their status isn’t low. They seem to be talking with the sky pirates, giving them some orders.”

Fang Hong sensed an opportunity and quickly asked, ”Elisa, can you eavesdrop on what they’re saying?”

”I’ll try.”

”Wait.” Fang Hong proactively stopped her, looking in that direction. It was blazing bright outside the bushes, making it hard to find a spot suitable for sneaking in. Elisa might be able to give it a try, but if the opponents’ level is higher, the chance of failure was also significant.

Gathering information was important, but the safety of his team members had to be the top priority.

He took out the Clockwork Fairy and spoke softly, ”You stay put; I’ll try it myself.”

Elisa immediately understood his intentions, feeling a little touched. Honestly, if the mission was important, it wouldn’t be unacceptable for Nightingale to make a sacrifice. She softly reminded, ”But, there are high-ranking Magic Guided Conductors nearby, Captain.”

Fang Hong couldn’t help but frown; that was indeed a troublesome issue.

Just as he was about to act, Atira stopped him quietly. The Elf Miss spoke calmly, ”Let me try, Ade.”

”Miss Atira?”

Atira looked at Elisa and asked, ”Miss Elisa, do you still have any mice?”

”I have one left.”

”Let it out, be careful not to let it escape.”

Elisa nodded and did as instructed. She roughly guessed what Atira intended to do, opened a small slit in her pocket for the mouse to peek out, and then grabbed it tightly.

The mouse was about to struggle, but at that moment, the Elf Miss recited a spell softly through the Light Page, and the mouse immediately calmed down, looking somewhat bewildered at Atira in the Light Page.

Inside the room, Gita softly remarked, ”Animal calming, Druid Magic.”

”I know that,” Xiangzi replied, ”Miss Atira often talks with Mr. Greyrock.”

Once the mouse calmed down, Atira whispered something to it. Yet, since it was a secret language among Druids, no one could understand what she said. Then she told Elisa, ”Now you can let it go.”

Elisa released it, and the mouse, which was initially a bit panicked, quickly oriented itself and started crawling in the pointed direction.

It passed through a pile of ruins, unnoticed by anyone as just a mere mouse, coming steadily to Fang Hong and the others. Atira gently reassured it and said:

”I promised it, if it helps us with this small task, we’ll set it free.”

”What can it help us with?” the Big Catfolk eyed the trembling little creature skeptically.

But Fang Hong had already caught on and took out a II-type Clockwork Fairy, asking, ”Miss Atira, can you have it carry this close enough to those people?”

Atira nodded lightly.

She took the Clockwork Fairy, placed it before the mouse, and whispered a few words to it. The mouse circled the Clockwork Fairy, picked it up with its mouth, and looked at the Elf Miss. Atira quickly pointed in a direction, and the little critter scurried off, carrying the Clockwork Fairy.

Everyone watched this magical scene unfold. Since Ameya rarely accepted False Believers, Invokers seldom encountered Druids and didn’t expect this profession to possess such skills.

Soon, Fang Hong confirmed the position via feedback from the Clockwork Fairy. Without actively controlling the Clockwork Fairy, as there was no active magic power link between them, even the most skilled Magic Guided Conductor could not detect it.

Despite the background magic power fluctuations in Eteliria, the passive sensor wave between him and the Clockwork Fairy was not as noticeable as the ambient noise in this world.

At the same time, confirmation also came from Elisa’s side: ”I see that it’s gotten close to them.”

Fang Hong immediately activated the II-type Clockwork Fairy’s auditory channel, and a rough voice sounded within:

”...Sir, we’ve been working day and night, but there’s nothing down here. It’s not our fault. And it’s the same at the other two excavation sites, isn’t it?”

It was clearly a sky pirate speaking, grumbling extensively.

”Not to mention said items, we haven’t even found half a gold coin. Over the decades, those scholars have turned this place upside down. What good stuff could possibly be left for us?”
