Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 105: Chapter 105 Mutated Wolf King

At this moment, the Silver King is lying in the corner of the living room, resting with its eyes closed.

The Mutated Leopard is also lying beside the Silver King. These two similarly-sized creatures seem to get along quite well, even sleeping close to one another.

”This guy won’t let me touch him, huh.” Xu Xin sighed with some helplessness.

Whether or not to let the Silver King mutate is a question that requires careful consideration.

First and foremost, one must consider whether the Silver King will lose its sanity after mutation.

Actually, even if it did lose its sanity, Xu Xin could suppress it with a mount contract, just like he uses the Mutated Beast Contract with the bat, which can still fully obey his commands.

However, after spending these few days with the Silver King and even enduring extremely dangerous battles together, they’ve developed a strong rapport. A Silver King with its own will that can coordinate with Xu Xin is naturally much stronger than one that only obeys commands. Moreover, Xu Xin is unwilling to let the Silver King lose its will; he’s already considered it a partner and doesn’t want to turn it into a mere tool wolf.

Fortunately, Zhang Yin also mentioned that there’s a strong possibility the Silver King won’t lose its will.

Nonetheless, even if it doesn’t lose its will, there remains another issue. If the Silver King becomes a mutated beast, when facing those underground monsters in the future, will his mutated beast be influenced by higher-level beasts?

Zhang Yin told him that the contract is concocted using the blood of a high-level mutated beast, meaning that high-level mutated beasts have the power to make lower-level ones submit. If it’s just intimidation causing inaction, that’s manageable, but if it turns traitorous...

After thinking it over, Xu Xin felt the issue wasn’t too severe. Firstly, he has the contract’s restraint; secondly, he can put the mutated beast into the bracelet in advance.

Xu Xin ultimately decided to ask for the Silver King’s opinion.

He took out a bottle of mutation potion from his backpack, approached the Silver King, and squatted down beside it.

The leopard on the side saw Xu Xin approaching and immediately leapt to another corner of the room, clearly wanting to stay away from him.

”This guy...” Xu Xin glanced helplessly at the leopard.

”Awoo?” At this moment, the Silver King opened its eyes, and seeing the mutation potion in Xu Xin’s hand, let out a puzzled bark.

”Silver King, do you want to become stronger, as strong as that guy?” Xu Xin pointed to the leopard lying to the side and asked the Silver King softly.

The Silver King’s eyes lit up, and its body, which had been lying down, stood up, letting out a confirmatory wolf howl, ”Awoo!”

After bringing the leopard back, these two big guys seemed to have a brief sparring match. It was quite obvious that, in terms of both strength and speed, the Silver King lagged significantly behind the leopard and naturally couldn’t win.

As the former Wolf King, it once dared to face the jungle’s overlord, the brown bear, so it naturally bore the heart of a strong one. Now that Xu Xin mentioned it could become stronger, it certainly wouldn’t refuse.

Xu Xin had long regarded the Silver King as a partner. He sat down next to the Silver King and explained the pros and cons of the mutation potion.

It was unclear whether the Silver King could grasp what Xu Xin was saying; after he finished talking, it lowered its head in contemplation but, within just a dozen seconds, raised its head again and let out a determined bark at Xu Xin, ”Awoo!”

Xu Xin understood that it wanted to take the mutation potion and undergo mutation.

”Are you sure? I can’t guarantee one hundred percent that you’ll retain your will.” Xu Xin was still somewhat hesitant, unlike the Silver King.

”Awooooo—” The Silver King let out a long wolf howl, causing a flurry of startled birds to fly out from the trees around the treehouse. As if receiving a signal, various howls from different beasts echoed through the once quiet nighttime forest.

Canine animals are known for their gratitude; Xu Xin saved the Silver King’s life, so it naturally was willing to serve as Xu Xin’s steed and fight alongside him. But as a former Wolf King, it was also unwilling to see its abilities dwarfed by other beasts.

Xu Xin understood the Silver King’s determination, pulled the cork from the vial in his hand, and a strong scent of blood instantly hit his nostrils.

”If you’re really willing, then open wide.”

The Silver King unhesitatingly opened its large mouth, its sharp wolf teeth appearing capable of tearing apart any prey.

Xu Xin did not hesitate any longer and poured the entire bottle of mutation potion into the Silver King’s mouth.

The Silver King swallowed the potion and stood still, while Xu Xin also stood up, looking at the Silver King with a serious expression, watching for any changes in its body.

But after a long staring contest between the man and the wolf, no change occurred in the Silver King’s body.

”Awoo?” The Silver King smacked its wolf mouth, emitting a puzzled bark.

Xu Xin felt as if he had a blocked sensation, like a sneeze that wouldn’t come out.

”What’s going on? Why hasn’t the Silver King changed? Could it be that the potion isn’t immediate, and instead gradually alters it?” Xu Xin frowned, ”No, Zhang Yin said the potion’s effects are supposed to be immediate.”

”Coo?” Keke, who was lying on the soft sofa and almost asleep, was also drawn over by the intense blood scent, looking at the man and wolf staring at each other, tilting its little head.

The Mutated Leopard in the corner showed no reaction, probably already accustomed to this smell.

After waiting a few more minutes, with the Silver King still unchanged, Xu Xin hadn’t said anything when the Silver King, seemingly anxious about not growing stronger even with the potion, let out an unwilling howl, ”Awooo!”

”Huh?” Just as the Silver King howled, Xu Xin caught a glimpse of its wolf teeth; those sharp wolf teeth seemed to have lengthened somewhat, reminding Xu Xin of the wolf statue on the altar, which had two exceptionally sharp and huge wolf teeth that looked terrifying.

”Silver King, open your mouth!”

”Awoo?” The Silver King, in a fit of frustration, opened its wolf mouth at Xu Xin’s command.

Sure enough, the two fangs on the upper jaw had become sharper and slightly more prominent, but the change wasn’t significant.

”Could it be that the dosage of the reagent is insufficient?”

At this moment, the leopard sauntered over from the side, raised its paw, pointed at the Silver King, and let out a ”meow” at Xu Xin.

”What does it mean?” Xu Xin was puzzled.

All of his contract beasts seemed to have become intelligent, each smarter than the last, but unfortunately, Xu Xin couldn’t understand their speech!

Upon hearing the leopard’s call, Keke also started making soft cries at Xu Xin, gesturing with its two paws.

It took Xu Xin a while to understand, and he raised an eyebrow: ”Let the Silver King continue drinking?”

Seeing that Xu Xin understood its meaning, the leopard licked its paw and returned to the corner to lie down again.

So it really was a lack of dosage! His eyes lit up, the leopard must have spoken based on experience, which meant that the Silver King could potentially become as formidable as the leopard!

He immediately took out another bottle of reagent and poured it into the Silver King.

This time, the Silver King seemed to have some reaction; its originally pitch-black pupils began to show threads of red, but still, there wasn’t much change.

It wasn’t until Xu Xin finished feeding all six bottles of mutation reagent to the Silver King that its reaction became intense. Its body started trembling uncontrollably, jaws clenched, and Xu Xin could clearly see its eyes beginning to fog with blood-red color.

Subsequently, it seemed that from the heart area beneath it, red blood lines started to spread rhythmically outward, in sync with the Silver King’s heartbeat. Those blood-red patterns appeared striking on the Silver King’s silver-gray body.

But gradually, the speed of the blood-red pattern spreading slowed down, and the Silver King let out sounds of apparent pain.

”The dosage is still insufficient!” Xu Xin quickly ran downstairs to the mutation reagent synthesis station, made a new bottle of mutation reagent with an empty reagent bottle and tainted meat, and rushed upstairs to feed it to the Silver King.

The Silver King’s expression relaxed, then the blood-red patterns suddenly spread rapidly across its entire body. Simultaneously, the two fangs on the Silver King’s upper jaw grew out swiftly, with blood-red patterns on them, looking as mighty as those of a saber-toothed tiger.

Its pupils turned completely blood-red, and the Silver King suddenly let out a long howl skyward: ”Awoo————”

The long howl was more resounding than before, yet surprisingly, not a single wild beast in the jungle dared to make a sound. There weren’t overly bright red dots around the treehouse; the surrounding beasts weren’t strong, so they didn’t dare to respond or provoke the Silver King’s current howl.

”Has it succeeded?” Xu Xin looked nervously at the Silver King in front of him, worried it might lose its will.

He met that pair of blood-red eyes. The coldness in the eyes disappeared instantly as they met Xu Xin’s gaze, and the Silver King took a couple of steps closer, rubbing its head against Xu Xin, letting out a ”woof.”

”Haha! It worked!” Xu Xin rubbed the Silver King’s big head, ”Come on, let’s go for a walk!”

”Yip!” Hearing Xu Xin say that, Keke climbed onto his shoulder, indicating it also wanted to go down.

The leopard at the side also rose to its feet.

One person and three beasts stood beneath the treehouse.

He mounted the back of the Silver King: ”Go, Silver King, with your fastest speed, let’s head to that salt cave!”

”Awoo——” The Silver King let out a wolf howl and sprinted forward with Xu Xin on its back.

”Whoa!” Xu Xin was amazed by the Silver King’s speed. Before mutation, its maximum speed was around forty kilometers per hour, but now, it felt twice as fast!

Carrying Xu Xin, it still reached a speed of eighty kilometers per hour! It had already reached the minimum speed limit on Earth’s highways, and could enter the highway!

The fierce wind slapped against Xu Xin’s face, almost blowing him numb. He pulled an iron helmet from his backpack and put it on, using it as a motorcycle helmet. Or should it be called, a wolf rider’s helmet?

Keke had already climbed down from Xu Xin’s shoulder, clutching tightly to the fur on Silver King’s neck, lest it be thrown off.

For the leopard, eighty kilometers per hour wasn’t much, even without mutation, its speed was faster, so it was easily running alongside the Silver King.

But Xu Xin knew, even though this speed was nothing for the leopard, it couldn’t run for long, at most a few minutes before it would be panting and exhausted; endurance was the biggest weakness of felines, but the Silver King could maintain this speed to run for extended periods!

Not far away, a sika deer was chewing the grass on the ground.

Out eating grass so late at night, such irregular living habits, that’s not good!

”Silver King, bite that deer to death!”

”Awo!” The Silver King let out a howl and raced towards the sika deer.

The sika deer, startled by the Silver King’s howl, bolted at full speed, but its speed was too slow compared to the Silver King now. The Silver King caught up effortlessly and bit the sika deer’s neck.

As Xu Xin watched, those two fangs pierced straight through the sika deer’s neck, and with one snap of the Silver King’s wolf jaws, the bones were instantly crushed, and the deer’s head separated from its body completely!

The Silver King shook its head, throwing the deer’s head from its mouth onto the ground.

”Nicely done!” Xu Xin felt his blood boiling and shouted excitedly.
