Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 103: Chapter 103 Tree House Level 4

After tidying up the arrangement inside the house, Xu Xin opened the points shop and purchased two large flower pots (blue) from it, placing them by the window in the living room, or rather, on the balcony.

He still had two portions of fertile soil (blue) that he brought back from the dungeon.

Filling the two portions of fertile soil into the flower pots, Xu Xin began to consider what to plant.

Two nights ago, he had planted strawberry seeds in the first pot, strawberries mature in pots in just three days, and now there’s only one day left before he can harvest blue grade strawberry fruits. Meanwhile, the apple tree outside can bear fruit before the next event arrives.

He couldn’t plant tall plants indoors, Xu Xin thought of the cotton seeds he had earlier, then shook his head—cotton yield isn’t much, and planting cotton now wouldn’t be very useful.

Just as he was considering what to plant, that mysterious voice echoed in his ears again.

[The rewards for this dungeon treasure hunt returnees will be announced below]

[A total of 1853 survivors collected resources in the dungeon and safely returned in this event]

[All returnees will receive a generous reward: Treehouse layers +1]

[Looking forward to your performance next time.]

[The next event will begin at 9:00 sharp the day after tomorrow, titled: Rainy Season, all survivors please prepare.]

This paragraph contained quite a bit of information.

What attracted Xu Xin most was that reward, treehouse layer +1?

Xu Xin immediately went to the screen to open the [Leaderboard] option. Though the mysterious voice said there was no ranking for this event, there was still a sub-option [Dungeon Treasure Hunt] available. Xu Xin opened it, revealing a dialog box.

[Detected you are a dungeon returnee, would you like to claim the reward?]

Xu Xin chose yes, and suddenly a purple light orb appeared. Just as Xu Xin was about to reach out and touch it, it flew into the wall of the treehouse, then the whole treehouse began to tremble slightly, and sounds of friction could be heard from above.

”Eek!” Keke on the sofa was startled and jumped up, quickly running over to Xu Xin’s side, climbing onto his shoulder and lying there with her head raised to observe above.

Silver King was quite calm, lying in the corner of the living room wall, seemingly asleep. However, the leopard seemed tense, body arched, mouth slightly open, ready to spring at any moment.

”It’s okay, there’s no need to be nervous.” Xu Xin took Keke off his shoulder and held her in his arms, soothing her.

This vibration indicated the treehouse was growing, soon a fourth layer would appear. This reward was definitely advantageous for him, knowing that the low small treehouse only had an area of about thirty square meters, the second layer had only fifty square meters, while each of his layers were over a hundred square meters, profits several times that of others.

The tremor continued without stopping, Xu Xin sat on the sofa holding Keke, watching the treehouse’s changes while pondering the mysterious voice’s next event.

”Rainy Season?” Xu Xin contemplated the event name, ”Just heavy rain? No, it can’t be that simple.”

He remembered the lake surrounding his treehouse, along with the school of piranhas at its center.

”Could it be, a flood disaster?” The more Xu Xin thought about it, the more possible it seemed, ”Flood disaster, together with lightning strike?”

This mysterious voice could even affect the world’s weather; Xu Xin increasingly felt it was the ”god” described in the altar introduction.

Seems like the piranha problem must be solved by tomorrow; when the Rainy Season arrives, flooding is likely, then this piranha school will be the biggest threat!

Xu Xin bit his lip, hoping that giant crocodile might assist him.

If that giant crocodile doesn’t help him, he’ll have to throw polluted meat into the lake to poison them. The piranhas were entirely blood-red, but without patterns, likely not the same type of mutated creatures Xu Xin had encountered, after all their boss, the Lake Giant Python, didn’t have blood-red patterns, so they should be poisoned by polluted meat.

But this could cause a consequence, possibly leading to mutated piranhas, directly eating polluted meat has a low chance of mutation, mutated piranhas via this method should be more than just low-level mutated creatures.

But it was an unavoidable matter, compared to a school of piranhas, perhaps one or a few big piranhas could indeed be easier to deal with; after all, larger targets could be attacked with the treehouse’s heavy crossbows.

The treehouse’s tremors stopped, simultaneously, sounds like wood cracking came from the stairwell. Xu Xin hurriedly looked towards the stairs, only to see the ceiling above the stairs suddenly split into a rectangle, with a clatter, one edge of the rectangle dropped down, forming a stairway upward.

Xu Xin carried Keke, ascending the new layer’s stairway.

This new top layer dazzled Xu Xin, he hadn’t expected its structure differed from the three layers below, the ceiling displayed a conical structure, like ancient brick houses, high in the middle low at both sides.

Though low, the edges were still three meters high, comparable to the heights of the lower layers, while the highest in the middle reached five or six meters.

Just like the spacious loft ceiling.

In this light, this layer should be the treehouse’s topmost layer, would likely not add upward anymore. If further layers were added, likely the banyan tree would grow taller, then layers would be added below.

”What should we do with such a large space?” Xu Xin touched his chin.

This height is actually the best for planting. But...

Xu Xin had a sudden idea. Could skylights be installed in the ceiling of the treehouse?

If several rows of windows were opened on the ceiling to let sunlight in, wouldn’t it be possible to plant on the top level? Although there are dense banyan leaves outside, they wouldn’t block the sun’s entry.

With a maximum height of six meters, Xu Xin could easily plant fruit trees in the middle area, and with regular pruning, cultivated fruit trees would only reach three to four meters in height.

Sounds good.

Xu Xin swiped his watch, the [Treehouse Renovation] list was able to make wooden and glass windows. The raw material for glass windows was only glass, but Xu Xin hadn’t made any glass yet.

Based on his previous deductions, glass should be made by burning sand in a furnace.

Since Li Wenxi had always been selling him smelted iron blocks, his furnace had been idle for a long time.

Leaving the treehouse, Xu Xin filled a wooden bucket with sand and gravel by the lakeside, then went to the furnace on the second level of the treehouse and added some wood as firewood, pouring the sand and gravel into the furnace.

[Glass smelting time: 12 minutes.]

The smelting time for a single block of glass was short. In about a minute, Xu Xin obtained a thick piece of glass, and the furnace continued to work. Judging from the smelting time, a bucket of sand should yield twelve pieces of glass.

[Glass (Green): Glass with strength comparable to treehouse walls, confidently usable as window material for the treehouse, also for making various glass containers.]

Great! He had just worried whether the glass would be too weak, but the description assured him. Unexpectedly, green-grade glass had strength comparable to treehouse walls; is the glass too strong, or is the wall’s defense not enough?

However, even if the strength wasn’t enough, it wasn’t a concern. After all, the treehouse walls were wrapped in thick banyan leaves, needing to protect only the exposed trunk, which he already armored.

Letting the furnace continue smelting, he returned to the top fourth level and selected the option to make glass windows on his watch.

[Please select a placement position.]

Familiar with the process, Xu Xin directly chose the slanted ceiling.

With a ”click,” a 1*1 piece of the ceiling was replaced with thick glass. Through the glass, Xu Xin saw the translucent banyan leaves outside and a sky filled with stars.

”It’s done!”

The glass window, directly embedded in the ceiling, was fixed and couldn’t be opened, exactly as Xu Xin wanted. He just wanted to make the top ceiling into a greenhouse-style fixed window, unable to open was best.

Moving three planters from the third floor up, Xu Xin placed the strawberry planter by the window and two new planters at the center-most highest position. He found several seeds on the trading platform, planting two red berry shrubs in one pot and an orange tree in the other.

These resources were ones Xu Xin used the most; during events, consumption was high, especially the Red Berry·Large (Blue), of which he consumed at least a dozen in the dungeon, necessitating a personal supply.

Red berry shrubs and orange trees both took ten days to mature and fruit, but in the large pot (Blue), it only took six days.

He wondered if the blue-grade red berry shrub outside bore fruit again.

Xu Xin went to the lakeside again, filled a few buckets with sand, and brought them back to the treehouse, dumping them all into the furnace and assembling the smelted glass onto the top ceiling. After nearly an hour of work, half of the top ceiling was finally transparent glass.

Standing on this level looking up at the sky, with starry dotted views and a bright galaxy, it was incredibly beautiful.

”Perfect! This is the real starry sky ceiling; I almost want to live on this top level directly!”

This level felt too empty with only three large planters, so Xu Xin bought fifty ordinary green-grade planters from the point mall. These planters could hold green-grade soil and shorten growth time.

A normal planter only required 5 points, equivalent to a portion of green-grade fertilizer, but since Xu Xin had a 30% discount, it only needed 3.5 points, with fifty ordinary planters costing only 175 points.

Xu Xin obtained many points in the dungeon, and the points from the mutant plants taken down by the cheetah were also credited to him. Even after buying two blue-grade large planters, he still had over 1500 points and was affluent, not minding spending a bit.

He took Silver King and ran to a place further from the treehouse, dug up fifty portions of green-grade soil, brought them back to the treehouse, and filled the fifty planters.

He planned to transform the entire top floor into a plantation.

He always pondered a question: would the rainy season cause flood disasters? If floods really came, how much of the plant resources outside would survive?

Xu Xin didn’t want to rely on external resources. If the plantation was established, even if flood disasters destroyed external resources after the rainy season, he could still be self-sufficient!
