Nine Revolutions Star Transformation

Chapter 82: Chapter 82: The Bet Between Two Old Men

Chu Linfeng then returned to his practice room. The matter had been handled, and now all that was left was to wait for the life-and-death duel with Ouyang Hong on the Life and Death Platform.

Having nothing to do, he realized he hadn’t looked at the Magic Beast Egg in the Storage Belt for a long time. He wondered when it might hatch and decided to take it out for a look.

Since he obtained the Magic Beast Egg, Chu Linfeng hadn’t really examined it. Taking it out now gave him quite a shock.

The egg’s shell unexpectedly had cracks on it, although very shallow, they were clearly visible to the naked eye. Dozens of faint cracks crisscrossed the surface.

”What’s going on? Didn’t Sister Yue’Er say this Magic Beast Egg couldn’t hatch without strong Star Power? Why does it show signs of hatching after being left in the Storage Belt?” Chu Linfeng muttered to himself.

”Lin Feng, are you really that dense? While it’s true the egg needs strong Star Power to hatch, check if your Storage Belt is missing something,” Sword Spirit Yue’er said.

Without another word, Chu Linfeng quickly checked the items in the Storage Belt. To his surprise, all the Star Stones were gone, and this discovery filled him with joy.

Sword Spirit Yue’er had once mentioned this Magic Beast Egg was a descendant of the Spirit Beast Blood Shadow Frenzied Lion. Hatching it would be a Spirit Beast, something Chu Linfeng had dreamed of, so he didn’t feel bad about losing the Star Stones.

Finding a way to hatch the Blood Shadow Frenzied Lion was the happiest thing for Chu Linfeng. At this moment, he fantasized about having a Spirit Beast with him in the future—how mighty and impressive that would be.

”But don’t get too happy too soon. It takes a lot of Star Stones to hatch the Blood Shadow Frenzied Lion, so be prepared mentally. Don’t be caught without Star Stones when the time comes,” Sword Spirit Yue’er said with a smile.

Chu Linfeng was accustomed to her putting a damper on things. In fact, he sometimes felt uncomfortable if she didn’t.

Regarding Star Stones, Chu Linfeng had a way to acquire more. Old Man Xu, the dean, gave him a fair number each month. If he had the chance, he could ask for more; in such a big academy, getting a few Star Stones should be relatively easy.

At this moment, if Dean Xu knew how Chu Linfeng was thinking, he might cough up blood in frustration, given the importance and rarity of Star Stones—even he, as dean, couldn’t always acquire them.

Celestial Dragon Academy gets its Star Stones from the Royal Family of the Celestial Dragon Empire, or one could say Celestial Dragon Academy is a place where the empire recruits elite talents.

Carefully examining the Magic Beast Egg of the Blood Shadow Frenzied Lion, Chu Linfeng laughed and said: ”Little Frenzied Lion, you better hatch soon. I still need many Star Stones to enhance my strength. I’ll give you three months to absorb them. If you can’t hatch by then, you’ll have to wait until I improve my skills.”

Without Star Stones, Chu Linfeng couldn’t practice during the day and had to rely on absorbing Star Power at night. However, since absorbing the Star Power from the Star Chamber, the Star Power absorbed at night was incomparable.

A night’s time would amount to just one hour of absorption in the chamber, leaving him feeling frustrated and unsatisfied.

Two days passed quickly. The academy was abuzz with rumors about Chu Linfeng and Ouyang Hong’s life-and-death duel. Many from the academy came to the Life and Death Platform early, eagerly awaiting this thrilling death match.

In the dean’s office, Dean Xu lounged on a chair, his eyes half-closed, as he spoke to Gongsun Changyuan: ”Changyuan, do you think we’re being too lenient with this kid Chu Linfeng?

If we don’t step in to stop this, I bet Ouyang Hong will be the one to bite the dust. Although that kid isn’t as gifted as Chu Linfeng, he’s one of the academy’s decent students. Should we save him?”

Both Gongsun Changyuan and Dean Xu were aware of Chu Linfeng and Ouyang Hong’s duel on the Life and Death Platform. The two were talented figures within the academy, and any loss would be significant.

”Old Xu, do you think there’s any chance of Chu Linfeng losing? If he seems in danger, should we step in to save him?” Gongsun Changyuan asked, somewhat avoiding the question posed by Dean Xu.

”Do you really have that little faith in him? I would bet he’s sure to win. Why don’t we make a wager? If he wins, you owe me a hundred Top-grade Star Stones; if not, I owe you a hundred. How about it?”

”A hundred Top-grade Star Stones? Old Man Xu, that’s my annual salary. You want to talk Star Stones with me? As vice dean, I really am nothing but a title,” Gongsun Changyuan immediately complained.

”How about this: If I lose, I’ll give you a hundred; if you lose, give me fifty. I really don’t understand why you value Ouyang Hong so much; you should know Chu Linfeng is our main focus for cultivation.”

”Alright, I agree. Talk is cheap; let’s head to the Life and Death Platform now. With those fifty Top-grade Star Stones, maybe I can break through a level,” said Gongsun Changyuan, his face full of confidence, as if he already held victory.

This day might be the liveliest at Celestial Dragon Academy, aside from recruiting students, as many were gathered around the Life and Death Platform. Numerous students from ordinary and excellent classes were present, eager to see what was so impressive about the famed Chu Linfeng.

As the sun climbed higher, Ouyang Hong had already ascended the Life and Death Platform. He was confident about defeating Chu Linfeng because from probing others, he learned Chu Linfeng’s strength was at most the Second Level of Earth Martial Realm.

With such strength, Ouyang Hong felt he could defeat him in no more than three moves, looking down at the crowd with a smile.

Niu Tian, Lin Ruoxi, and Tang Li arrived early at the Life and Death Platform too. Despite Chu Linfeng being up against Ouyang Hong, they were worried, given the opponent was the top fighter of the ordinary class.

Lu Xue was also present. As a mentor, she was equally worried, not about Chu Linfeng, but about Ouyang Hong, as she strongly sensed he was no match for Chu Linfeng.

Minute by minute passed, and the spectators were growing impatient, starting to whisper among themselves.

”That kid isn’t going to show up, is he? It’s already this late.”

”I bet he’s chickened out. Getting on that Life and Death Platform means risking your life; who’d joke around with that?”

”Facing Ouyang Hong, the top of the ordinary class, is suicidal. I’m not sure what that kid is thinking; maybe he’s just dumb, incredibly so.”

The chatter was nonstop, and Ouyang Hong, hearing it, wore a broad smile. To put on a good show, he shouted loudly at everyone:

”Chu Linfeng, if you don’t show up, I won’t force you. Just kneel three times for me, then say ’I, Chu Linfeng, am a waste, a coward,’ and I’ll spare you!”

The voice was loud, and almost everyone heard clearly. The words were unpleasant for Lin Ruoxi and others to hear; if Tang Li hadn’t held Lin Ruoxi back, she’d have rushed up to confront Ouyang Hong.

She couldn’t stand others saying such things about her man, glaring angrily at Ouyang Hong and saying, ”You’ll see Lin Feng’s prowess soon enough; enjoy your momentary arrogance now.”

Just as she finished speaking, a familiar voice rang out: ”Ouyang Hong, I’m here. Today, even if you bow a hundred times, you won’t escape my grasp!”

A fleeting shadow landed on the Life and Death Platform before everyone, and the person was naturally Chu Linfeng...
