Algorithm system

Speed up fishing progressFeng Shui is indeed being researched as a serious subject in the international AI community.

Correspondingly, the domestic AI community in Longguo hasn’t been idle either.

Now, the senior engineers at Good Group can no longer claim they completely don’t understand the algorithms Lin Yuan submitted. Otherwise, what about their year-end performance reviews?

Good Group immediately added a new slogan: Discovering the charm of Longguo’s traditional culture, Good Group is the first company in Longguo to introduce the Feng Shui AI Model.

As for Lin Yuan himself, besides Good Group no longer hounding him, he didn’t receive anything he originally hoped for from Good Group.

Good Group terminated his employment contract, paid one month’s salary, plus a one-time payment of six months’ non-compete compensation as liquidated damages.

The total compensation Lin Yuan received for being kicked out was less than 200,000. He had originally aimed to get tens of millions from Good Group. The disparity was quite significant...

Good Tuan Internal Research Institute quickly issued a summary report regarding Lin Yuan’s food delivery algorithm.

Blah blah blah, many words, but the summary was actually just one sentence: It wasn’t that Lin Yuan was amazing; it was because this kid, Lin Yuan, got early exposure to the Feng Shui AI concept and then kept it under wraps.

Lin Yuan certainly couldn’t be amazing. Because if Lin Yuan were amazing, what would that make the people employed by Good Tuan Internal Research Institute? Would a landlord’s family raise idle people?

As for why Lin Yuan could keep it under wraps without being discovered, there were always various excuses. Anyway, Professor Zhou Shuiyi’s paper was published very early, so they just insisted that Lin Yuan had seen the paper early on and kept it hidden.

In any case, Lin Yuan had to be a scoundrel who hid secrets from Hao Tuan Company.

But in reality, Lin Yuan had submitted the Feng Shui AI concept to Good Group before he left; it was Good Group’s own engineers who didn’t believe him.

Now, leveraging Musk’s momentum, everyone had no choice but to believe in the Feng Shui AI concept. Good Tuan Internal Research Institute could only insist: Lin Yuan deliberately held back when submitting technical data, not giving them everything.

Anyway, reasons can always be found.

As for Lin Yuan, of course he was angry.

Not only did he not get the breakup fee, but he was also almost sued by Good Group. He was even forced to rack his brains to fool Musk just to get Good Group to withdraw the lawyer’s letter.

In a word: Lin Yuan felt he had been taken advantage of.

Lin Yuan and Good Group initially went into talks about money, and Good Group wanted to bring Lin Yuan into their fold, but Lin Yuan clearly didn’t want to humble himself to a so-called big enterprise like Good Group. So Good Group used drastic measures against him.

For Good Group, it was only about compliance or non-compliance. There was no such thing as a breakup fee if one didn’t comply.

Would Lin Yuan swallow this insult? No way.

If he didn’t dismantle Good Group, he wouldn’t be named Lin.

Even when Good Group and Lin Yuan escalated to the point of sending lawyer’s letters, the highest-ranking person Lin Yuan met was Group Vice President Liu Zhang. Director Wang of Good Group didn’t even give him a call.

Lin Yuan vowed that in the future, Director Wang would personally come and sing ”Conquer” for him.

’Damn it, from the delivery riders era until now, they’ve been exploiting me all the way. I’m irreconcilable with Good Group!’

However, Lin Yuan was very clear that now was not the right time to act.

Not only did he think so, but Dean Li also thought the same.

”Little Lin, it’s rare for you to be so patient.

Good Group is currently riding high, profiting greatly in the stock market with your algorithm, and gracefully navigating policy. You can’t go against it now; it truly can wield its power arbitrarily.”

Dean Li was right. Good Group was practically a living Buddha to the delivery riderss now; anyone who spoke ill of it at this moment would be drowned in criticism in minutes.

But frankly, the delivery riderss were once again used as tools, tools to help Good Group turn around public opinion and reputation.

Lin Yuan was well aware that Good Group’s current strategy of profiting from the stock market could not be sustained long-term. When that day came, the delivery riderss would still have to face reality.

”They’ve taken all the benefits, their external publicity doesn’t mention you at all, and they didn’t even pay you a breakup fee.”

”The publicity doesn’t matter; I’m still talking with OCR, so it’s not convenient to be reported on.” Lin Yuan was indifferent to such fame, ”But their behavior is truly ugly.”

”The OCR matter can be put aside for now.”

”Ah?” Lin Yuan exclaimed, ”Teacher, weren’t you always very concerned about this?” In Lin Yuan’s understanding, Old Li was waiting to get promoted after finishing the OCR project.

”Alas,” Dean Li waved his hand, ”Wishing is one thing, but circumstances are stronger than people. Neither Old Zhang nor I expected your food delivery algorithm to have such great power. You’re almost becoming famous, so we can’t suppress you and prevent you from becoming famous just for the sake of OCR, right?”

Lin Yuan now found this old man even more agreeable.

Dean Li continued, ”Sometimes, you have to believe in fate. Isn’t everyone in the AI community talking about Feng Shui now? It’s pretty much the same principle. The older you get, the more you believe in fate.

Take Old Wang, for example, he’s Zhang Yan’s master. He originally wanted to get promoted with us through this OCR matter, but he leveraged Good Group’s momentum, staked his half-lifetime’s reputation, and managed to pull off a network work joint guidance.”

Lin Yuan knew about this too.

After Lin Yuan anticipated Good Group manipulating stock prices, he originally intended to give this big opportunity to Zhang Yan. But Zhang Yan only wanted to play with him and turned around and handed the completed work report to Director Wang. As a result, the opportunity fell into Director Wang’s hands.

Director Wang staked his half-lifetime’s reputation and bravely conducted a network work inspection and guidance for Good Group. As soon as the inspection and guidance were complete, Good Group’s stock price and reputation both soared, and the delivery riderss’ wages increased again. Director Wang’s political achievements suddenly came in.

Dean Li continued, ”So, this is fate. The OCR matter is no longer a must-have for Old Wang now. As for me, I really can’t understand... but even if I can’t understand, I can only accept my fate. Maybe it’s just not my destiny.”

Lin Yuan heard Dean Li’s emotional breakdown.

Director Wang had been plotting with him before, but now Director Wang was clearly taking a big step forward. And Director Wang’s success was entirely due to a fortuitous encounter.

How could he not be emotionally broken? How could he not lament fate?

”Teacher, don’t be discouraged. I’ll talk to OCR, and we’ll find an opportunity. Director Wang is just a bit faster. In the long run of the tortoise and hare race, the tortoise doesn’t lose out.”

”You think I’m a tortoise too?”

”Uh...”

In his heart, Lin Yuan actually thought Dean Li was a thoughtless rabbit. He didn’t have the tortoise’s grounded genes at all.

Furthermore, Lin Yuan didn’t want to get involved in the OCR matter anymore; he had been half-forced into it by the three big shots before.

If this project of the three big shots was abandoned, he would be very happy to accept that outcome.

But now, Lin Yuan felt a little sorry for Dean Li, that old man.

If the OCR matter had no result, then this old man would most likely retire in his current deputy position.

Considering that this old man had been very good to him since he forcibly acknowledged him as his disciple. He even helped him create a persona of an excellent covert operative in front of Zhang Yan.

’That’s right.’ Lin Yuan suddenly remembered: If the OCR project fell apart, what would he tell Zhang Yan?

If the OCR matter succeeded, and he had made contributions, it would be fine. But if it ended here, wouldn’t he become a complete fraud?

Given Zhang Yan’s personality, she would definitely be disappointed in him, and if she got angry, it wouldn’t be surprising if she gave him a good scolding.

After all, the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

So, to be safe now, for Dean Li, and even more so for himself, Lin Yuan had to make the OCR project continue. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even be able to play his senior brother role.

But a contradiction appeared before him.

To fish for OCR, he had to play the role of a small fry. Because rich people wouldn’t do such things. What rich person would be willing to take that 500,000?

To play a small fry, Lin Yuan would have to keep a low profile in real life.

And fishing for OCR was a very long-term project, because organizations like OCR had a strict set of procedures for recruiting personnel. They would definitely gradually assess potential candidates like Lin Yuan according to established steps.

But Lin Yuan clearly didn’t have the time to play cat and mouse with OCR.

So there was only one way—to quickly make OCR reveal their flaws.

But this was obviously difficult to do; the WeChat and phone numbers the OCR specialist used to contact him were probably shell accounts. In other words, he had no clues to trace the other party.

Lin Yuan thought it over and over after returning to his dorm.

To quickly understand the OCR matter, the only way was to start with the OCR specialist’s identity information.

But it was impossible for the other party to use real identity information.

”That’s it.”

Lin Yuan suddenly remembered. The OCR specialist often used project requirement descriptions from external websites when assigning him private jobs before.

He immediately found those web pages from the chat history.

These web pages were blog posts shared on various international social platforms. There was Facebook, and there was also X platform.

Lin Yuan could guess that these accounts were definitely anonymous and wouldn’t have any identity information.

’If only I had the network trace information used to log into these accounts.’

If someone in China visited an external social platform, even anonymously, they could still be traced layer by layer based on network trace information, eventually pinpointing the person.

Because domestic internet access always had to go through root servers.

Lin Yuan, with a try-it-out mentality, wanted to retrieve the account information of those who shared these demand web pages.

Lin Yuan then deployed the computing power system’s ”Great Data Retrieval Technique.”

This move helped him discover the clues about OCR.

However, this time, the move failed.

Those social accounts, besides being used to share demand web pages, had no other information found on domestic or international forums.

’As expected of professionals.’

This made Lin Yuan feel that this OCR nest of fish was not small.

Because not leaving superfluous traces on the internet was a basic skill only a professional organization possessed. Ordinary individuals liked to babble everywhere on the internet, thinking no one could find them.

Now Lin Yuan had no choice. The computing power system could only retrieve public information; it couldn’t search encrypted databases. Just like when it tagged cameras before, it was because the camera’s video data was not encrypted, so the system could intercept and parse it successfully.

Now there was no solution.

It was only because the cheat wasn’t powerful enough; it was just a pure computing tool and couldn’t crack passwords.

[Damn it! System, just commit hara-kiri.]

[No, for a silicon-based life form like you, it should be a hundred thousand volts of lightning torture.] (Lin Yuan temporarily considered the system a silicon-based life form)

The only remaining, not-a-solution, solution was to have Facebook or X platform open their user information databases to him.

But that was clearly impossible. Only the FBI could do that.

Call Musk to discuss it? Lin Yuan scoffed to himself...

”That’s right.” This nonsensical self-mockery gave Lin Yuan an idea.

Facebook was out of the question; Lin Yuan had no connection with that guy named Zuck. But the X platform...

Musk wasn’t looking for his long-lost brother, was he?
