Endless Winter: My Camp Upgrades Infinitely

Chapter 958: Chapter 353: Yu Yao’s Little Scheme, Xu Ning’s Dilemma

”Dad, Ah Yao is already four years old this year. The farthest place she’s been to is the Political Hall, and the only people she’s met besides Sister Han Yue are Second Uncle, Big Aunt, Little Aunt, Big Brother, Second Sister, and Grandfather, a total of six people. Don’t you think, Dad, isn’t Ah Yao really pitiful like this?”

Xia Yuyao gazed at Xia Hong with her big, teary eyes, her voice tinged with a sobbing tone, finishing with a rhetorical question to clearly elicit sympathy from Xia Hong.

After speaking, she didn’t forget to give her brother a signal with her eyes.

Xia Yusheng received the signal, nodded first, then lowered his head and thought for a moment before speaking earnestly to Xia Hong: ”Dad, Big Brother and Big Sister have already started practicing boxing, and they’ve made many good friends. And this June, Little Aunt took them to the Outer City to see a Cold Beast with their own eyes.

I heard from Big Brother that among the Martial Arts Competition participants, the youngest is only eight years old, just four years older than us. They all carry weapons to fight the Cold Beasts, but my sister and I have not even seen a living Cold Beast yet.

We only stay in the Star-picking Hall every day, and even going to the Political Hall, we can’t see anyone else; apart from the Political Hall, we don’t know what the main building is like; we’ve never even entered the three pavilions of Martial Arts, Alchemy, and Artifact Refining; not to mention the Outer City, we don’t even know how big the Inner City is...

Mom, I really want to go out and have a look, I don’t want to be confined in the Star-picking Hall anymore!”

Upon hearing these words from his son, Xia Hong sighed slightly.

At four years old, it’s the time when curiosity is the strongest and there’s a desire to explore new things. To continue keeping them locked up in the Star-picking Hall indeed doesn’t seem appropriate!

In terms of material wealth, Xia Yuyao and Xia Yusheng certainly enjoy the best in the whole Camp, and in this aspect, Li Xuanling goes even further than him.

Their food, clothing, and daily needs are specially customized by the Craftsmen Department, and whenever Li Xuanling hears of something good, she always finds a way to get it for them.

For example, the Black Feather Cover that can block the cold light of day—it was when she learned that there was an Intermediate Cold Beast called the Black Demon Eagle in East Ridge, whose tuft of black feathers on the forehead can block the cold light of day—that she personally went to East Ridge for over two months. With the cooperation of Lu Yang and Zhao Hu, it’s said that more than seven hundred were hunted, just to put together two Black Feather Covers.

From this alone, it’s clear that Li Xuanling’s love for the two children is, in fact, no less than his own.

But material things are ultimately just one aspect.

Curiosity cannot be satisfied with more material possessions.

Children grow up, and it’s definitely not possible to keep them caged any longer.

Boys and girls think differently, after all.

Xia Yuyao’s thoughts are probably similar to her brother’s, but she won’t say it directly, instead relying on playing the pity card to achieve her purpose.

Xia Yusheng, on the other hand, is clearly more methodical, and he knows very well who decides whether he can go out, so when he said that last sentence, he looked directly at his mother Li Xuanling, his eyes full of sincerity.

Xia Hong looked down at the expressions of the two little ones, one full of pity, the other full of sincerity, and was briefly stunned, but soon realized they were clearly performing a little skit together, shaking his head with a secret smile.

Their acting, even he, as their father, couldn’t be fooled by it, let alone their mother, who has been with them long-term.

”No way, letting you go to the Political Hall was already an exception. As for Long Mountain, if you’re not six, you are not allowed to take a step out of the Star-picking Hall. Put away those little thoughts, I will not agree to them.”

As expected, Li Xuanling immediately exposed their intentions and sternly refused their request to go out.

”Waaaahhh...”

It seemed Xia Yuyao had made a decision this time, bursting into tears after being refused by her mother; Xia Yusheng didn’t cry, but he turned his head away, pouting discontentedly.

”Four years old, actually that’s about right!”

”You...”

As Xia Hong softened his stance, the two little ones immediately showed anticipation on their faces, only for it to be interrupted by Li Xuanling’s angry reaction, leaving them to continue looking pitifully at Xia Hong.

”Don’t look at your father, Long Mountain is too far, and your mother and I have things to attend to there, you’re still too young, you certainly can’t go...”

Xia Hong noticed his eldest daughter about to tear up again while he was speaking, so he smiled and shifted his words: ”However, I can promise you both that from now on you can roam freely within the Inner City, what do you say?”

Freely roaming within the Inner City!

The two little ones’ eyes immediately lit up upon hearing this.

Xia Hong turned to look at Li Xuanling, seeing her face full of reluctance, clearly still not wanting to agree, he spoke softly: ”What are you worried about in the Inner City? Let Han Yue teach them how to control their power, and when they go out, put on a hat, and some disguises would do. Han Yue and Han Shuang are Cold Resistance level now—if you don’t trust them, aren’t there still the six of Meng Ying, Song Kang and the others?”

Li Xuanling’s face showed a hint of conflict, seeing the two little ones full of anticipation, she finally nodded helplessly.

It’s really not that Li Xuanling was overly protective. Beyond the fact that Xia Yusheng and Xia Yuyao are the offspring of a Lord, their heaven-defying talents, if too widely known, probably won’t be a good thing. When they were born, Xia Hong concealed their talents precisely out of this consideration.

To this day, in the entire Great Xia, those who know their talents for sure are probably only about a dozen people combined.
