A Foodie Transmigrated into the Palace

Chapter 1587

After lunch, she walked Zhao Junyao to the door.

Xia Ruqing turned back again.

She tidied up the table, cleaned the whole room, and then washed all the clothes she’d piled up.

When she finished the housework, she sat on the small stool by the bed, staring at the empty room, feeling a bit lost.

It was the first time she’d felt at a loss for what to do.

The first time she’d stood at a crossroads like this, not knowing which way to go.

She stared at the place where Zhao Junyao had just been sitting and zoned out for a full half hour.

In that half hour she only thought about one question.

”Why is it that now that he’s gone, I can’t bear it?”

”Why does it feel like I’ve known him for a long time, and that we’re more than just friends?”

”Why am I having this inexplicable good feeling toward him?”

Is it the fragrance of Renminbi working its magic? No way, have I really gone this far off the deep end?

Ha! Poor woman!

...

”Ah! Xiao Qingqing, is what you said true?”

”He... Zhao... Zhao Group, did he really say that? Can I really go?”

Wenwen was so excited she was talking nonsense.

Xiaoxiao pushed her glasses up and gave her a calm look.

”Yes!”

”It’s true!”

”Look at how excited you are. Calm down a bit, don’t let certain people look down on us again!”

She meant Shih Wanxin.

Wenwen secretly rolled her eyes.

”She looks down on me, and I look down on her!”

”So what if her parents are a bit better off than others? Aside from what her family gave her, she might not even be as good as us!”

”I don’t steal, I don’t rob, everything I do is aboveboard, I don’t owe her anything!”

Xia Ruqing smiled helplessly.

”Since none of us likes her, then let’s not bring her up in the future!”

”We’re going out next week, so we’ve got to hurry and get our passports done!”

”We still have to pack, and plan the trip. It’s rare for us to go out, so we can’t let certain people ruin our mood!”

”Right, right, right!” Wenwen nodded hard.

”Xiao Qingqing is right! Let’s hurry up and pack!”

...

At the Zhao Family Villa, Shih Wanxin was also very happy.

In the past, Ah Yao had never taken the initiative to take her out, let alone on a trip.

Now that her fiancé had suddenly changed his ways, she was so immersed in the sweetness of their love that she had no time to think about how off this was.

Zhao Zongqing didn’t think there was anything wrong with his son either. Even if he really was different from before, it was because of the car accident. His heart was filled with nothing but intense guilt and pain.

As for the rest of the Zhao Family, people like Shih Yueshu and Zhao Junqi, they didn’t feel anything was wrong with him at all.

Even if he wasn’t the same as before, they only felt that he had survived a great ordeal and escaped with his life.

Aside from feeling extremely guilty and endlessly resentful when facing Zhao Junyao, they had no other excess emotions.

So about Zhao Junyao having ”changed his core,” no one but Xia Ruqing knew.

...

For the next week, Shih Wanxin was happily busy preparing to go abroad.

This was the first time Ah Yao had主动 invited her on a trip, so she personally handled all the arrangements.

As for Zhao Junyao, there wasn’t much he needed to prepare; his assistant took care of everything for him.

It was on Xia Ruqing’s side that things were different.

Because she didn’t understand a lot of things, Zhao Junyao specifically brought his assistant over to help her.

”You could’ve just come yourself, why bring an assistant!” She was a bit speechless.

Zhao Junyao spread his hands.

”I don’t understand this stuff either. If I came alone, I wouldn’t be able to help you.”

Xia Ruqing suddenly understood and, while the assistant was out, smiled at him.

”Seeing you in suits and top brands all the time, I almost forgot your ’identity’!”

Zhao Junyao went to stand by the window of the small room with his hands behind his back. Instead of answering, he said calmly,

”One day, I will find out the truth about everything!”

”I ultimately don’t belong here!”

Thinking of him leaving, Xia Ruqing suddenly felt a little sad.

”To be honest, I used to really think you were crazy!”

She didn’t think that anymore. Now she had started to feel sorry for him, and even had a faint... reluctance to let him go?

Zhao Junyao didn’t speak.

He looked out the window for a long time, then suddenly opened his mouth.

”You’re not short of money now. Why don’t you move out of here?”

Xia Ruqing froze, then said,

”I’m living just fine here, why move?”

”This place might be shabby, but if you tidy it up it’s actually quite clean!”

”Especially that huge phoenix tree outside the window. In summer it’s lush and green and very pretty, and when the leaves turn yellow in autumn, it’s especially beautiful!”

It had a rural feel, and an even stronger sense of intimacy.

”So you like this kind of thing!” Zhao Junyao raised an eyebrow.

”Yeah! I’ve liked it since I was a kid!”

”In the future, once I’ve got money, I’m definitely going to lease a huge farm, plant all kinds of fruits and vegetables, and then build a courtyard there!”

”I’ll plant grapevines in front and put up a swing. In the back I’ll dig a pond to raise fish or something!”

”I’ll fence the yard with a picket fence and plant morning glories on it...”

”Oh right, my house has to be built of stone, with a pointed roof. If possible, I’ll add a chimney as decoration, haha, just thinking about it is fun!” Like living in a fairy tale.

Watching her talking and gesturing with a bright smile, her eyes full of little stars, he was utterly puzzled.

But even though he didn’t understand, he could tell how much she loved that kind of life.

And those eyes—so familiar it was shocking, as if he’d seen them somewhere before!

Yes, that’s right, he had seen them! But... where?

”Hey! Why are you staring at my eyes?” Xia Ruqing waved her hand in front of him.

Zhao Junyao snapped back to himself, cleared his throat lightly, and turned his head aside.

”Nothing!”

”Since we’re free anyway, how about we go have a look around the place where my accident happened?”

Zhao Junyao changed the subject.

Xia Ruqing was puzzled. ”You don’t trust the police station?”

Zhao Junyao calmly shook his head. ”No!”

”Just going to take a look!”

”Then... fine. Wait a sec, I’ll look for my car keys!”

Xia Ruqing picked up her bag, straightened her clothes a bit, and went out the door with Zhao Junyao.

...

The scenes along the road were very familiar, as if he’d gone back to the time when he had just arrived.

She would go out to work, he would follow her out, and the two of them would often quarrel all the way.

Now that they no longer quarreled, they actually didn’t have anything else to say.

After a while, Xia Ruqing reminded him,

”What about the assistant you brought? He went out to handle my paperwork—if he comes back and can’t find us...”

”It’s fine. If he can’t find us, he’ll leave!”

”Alright then!”

After just a few words, the two fell silent again.

The small truck drove slowly, and before they knew it they were close to the accident site.

Zhao Junyao’s heart suddenly started to panic.

From what he remembered, he had never been this flustered, not even when his father the emperor was on the brink of death and he was about to ascend the throne.

”Why?”

Xia Ruqing was puzzled too.

”What’s wrong with you? Are you feeling sick again? Hold on, we’re almost there!”

Zhao Junyao clutched his chest, his face growing worse.

”Stop!”

”Stop now!”

The closer they got to a certain spot, the more his chest hurt, as if a dagger were twisting violently inside.
