A Foodie Transmigrated into the Palace

Chapter 1564

Shaking off the chaotic thoughts in her mind, Xia Ruqing barely smiled and said.

”Maybe I was just too tired yesterday! Overslept, I just woke up when you guys came back!”

”Got it! I was wondering,” Xiaoxiao breathed a sigh of relief.

At this moment, Wenwen came over to console.

”If you ask me, you should change jobs.”

”You’re a young girl, living with irregular schedules like this, be careful you’ll get wrinkles later!”

Xiaoxiao gave her a look.

”You’re talking nonsense again, Xiao Qingqing is only in her early twenties, where would wrinkles come from!”

”She barely managed to improve her life a little through hard work, so hold your tongue!”

Wenwen grabbed Xia Ruqing to retort.

”I wasn’t talking nonsense! Xiao Qingqing, you know I care about you the most!”

Xia Ruqing couldn’t help but laugh.

These two often bicker, starting arguments at the drop of a hat, she had long gotten used to it.

”Alright!”

”I know you’re doing it for my good, but I really love this job!” she said seriously.

Upon hearing this, Wenwen released her hand.

”Well, okay then!”

”Actually, it’s not bad over there, at least it’s what you like, but me!”

”When will I stop just running errands and become a real beautician!”

Xia Ruqing quickly comforted her.

”Work hard, learn well, you can do it for sure!”

”Hope so!”

Wenwen spread her hands and shrugged.

...

The three chatted for a while, then went downstairs to have a meal together, before going their separate ways.

Wenwen and Xiaoxiao both lived downstairs.

As for herself, she lived on the top floor of this old building, and the reason was simple: the house on the top floor was the cheapest.

Though it’s insanely hot in the summer, freezing cold in the winter, leaks in the rain, drafty in the wind, snow even sneaks in during winter, it’s too hard to put into words.

But the good thing is it’s cheap, for the same rent, her room is nearly twice as big as the ones downstairs.

With her skillful arrangements, the room still looks quite fresh and neat.

Although the things are very worn-out, upon closer inspection they are decently clean.

Additionally, she remembered she had made a kitchen by enclosing an area on the other side of the room with a curtain.

Though it’s less than two square meters, with only an induction cooker and a pot.

But it can still be used to cook and fill stomachs, at least cheaper than outside.

Well, overall... the current environment is still liveable.

At least won’t freeze or starve, there’s still work and food available.

After washing and getting ready for bed.

She let out a long sigh, closed her eyes, and muttered to herself.

”I still feel so unfamiliar though!”

”It’s just like... I’ve left for a long time!”

Yet the noodles on the table were clearly made this morning!

Today is a rest day, obviously just lazing about after a meal, lying in bed and sleeping until dark, that’s all.

”How strange!”

”What kind of dream was that? That long?”

She thought and thought, then drifted off to sleep in a daze.

The next day.

She slept in until broad daylight, only waking up fully when Wenwen and Xiaoxiao came to her room and woke her up.

”Xiao Qingqing, what’s wrong with you?”

”Last night I felt something was off with you, are you feeling unwell anywhere?” Xiaoxiao asked somewhat worried.

Xia Ruqing shook her head blankly.

”No... nothing! I’m perfectly fine!”

Wenwen looked left and right, then finally let out a sigh of relief.

”She looks quite normal too, should be fine!”

Xiaoxiao nodded, finally putting her mind at ease.

After having breakfast together, Xia Ruqing seemed a bit surprised.

”You guys aren’t working today?”

Wenwen knocked on her head.

”Today’s Sunday, I can only rest for this one day a week!”

”You guys better accompany me for a walk, I’ve been in the beauty salon so long I’m going to get depressed!”

”Alright alright, we’ll accompany you!” Xiaoxiao said helplessly.

Xia Ruqing, however, felt a slight tremor in her heart, she touched her head, finding it strange.

The knock wasn’t painful, yet why did her heart feel such strong excitement, even feeling like the action was familiar?

”What’s wrong?” Xiaoxiao saw her face looking confused and asked concernedly.

Xia Ruqing quickly shook off the chaotic thoughts in her mind.

”Nothing, maybe just still a bit groggy from just waking up!”

”Um... weren’t we going shopping? Let’s tidy up and go!”

Regarding shopping, Xia Ruqing had no objections, her inner sense of unfamiliarity hadn’t faded yet, she wanted to go out too.

The three of them quickly agreed, immediately deciding to go out together today.

...

On the subway, Wenwen gossiped all the way.

About which celebrity had recently divorced, who was pregnant, and what brand had launched a new bag.

Alas, though she can’t afford it, looking doesn’t cost anything, she just wants to feast her eyes a bit.

After chatting all the way, seeing the other two were not interested.

She felt somewhat dull, was about to close her mouth too when suddenly a piece of local news popped up on her phone.

”Ah! Is it real!?”

”What’s up with you again?” Xiaoxiao asked helplessly.

”Look at this news!” Wenwen exclaimed in shock.

”Zhao Group’s eldest son suddenly mysteriously disappeared, currently whereabouts unknown, Zhao Group publicly announced a person search, pledging to reward heavily anyone providing valuable clues, tsk tsk tsk...”

Wenwen’s gaze was glued to those words ”heavy reward”, her eyes nearly popping out.

As if seeing a whole bunch of Renminbi waving at her.

”If only I could discover valuable clues!” Wenwen started fantasizing again.

Xiaoxiao frowned.

”Which Zhao Group, the one that got engaged to Shih Family’s big daughter last month?”

”What else? Who else could it be?” Wenwen nodded.

Xiaoxiao was still puzzled.

”Just got engaged, how could he disappear? Is there anyone in City Z who dares to touch Zhao Group’s people?”

Wenwen acted all knowing.

”Oh come on, how could we possibly know all the affairs of these business tycoons and noble families!”

”True enough!” Xiaoxiao said.

After going back and forth, discussing for quite a while, they still didn’t see Xia Ruqing making any response.

So they both asked her together.

”Why haven’t you said a word?”

Xia Ruqing came to her senses and smiled.

”I’m listening to you guys talk!”

”Besides, you know I’m not really interested in these things!”

”True enough!”

The two nodded, no longer speaking.

...

The three took the subway, after quite a long journey, finally arrived at City Z’s most prosperous city center.

Seeing the towering skyscrapers rising one after another, the incessant streams of traffic, and the busy pedestrians, the three were all a bit overwhelmed.

Especially Xia Ruqing, she felt the scene before her extremely unfamiliar, yet couldn’t find the reason.

”Time to shop, time to shop, finally coming out, even if we can’t afford it, we’ve got to feast our eyes!”

Wenwen said as she headed toward the most bustling mall, Xia Ruqing and Xiaoxiao trailing close behind.

Just as the three stepped into the mall entrance, Wenwen let out a surprised gasp.

”Oh my gosh!”

”Stepping out to meet an Honored Lady, isn’t that the legendary Shih Family’s Daughter!”

Following her gaze.

Only to see, at the most bustling mall’s first floor, Shih Family’s Daughter was extravagantly dressed, leaving with bodyguards.
