A Foodie Transmigrated into the Palace

Chapter 1571

Forget it, as a dignified emperor, he won’t argue with a woman.

She can call him whatever she wants; in this era, there’s no beheading, so his anger is useless.

Though resigned, the news is still good news.

This world, though unfamiliar, it’s good to be able to go home.

At least family won’t be as rude and harsh as her!

Looking at the rough and domineering woman before him, he thought with anticipation.

...

As summer ends and autumn begins, the weather gradually cools.

Zhao Junyao’s health has recovered about seventy to eighty percent; at least he can walk and go up and down stairs normally.

Xia Ruqing is pleased, though it doesn’t feel as sacred as saving a life surpassing building a seven-tiered pagoda, there’s still a sense of accomplishment.

If not for her, the person in front of her would definitely be dead! (Ahem, though this person’s brain is still not quite right!)

Today is a day off.

Previously, to quickly repay her advanced salary, she worked over thirty days straight.

Unable to physically sustain any longer, she decided to rest for two days.

Perhaps because she was too tired, she only woke up halfway through the morning, sleeping until the sun was high in the sky.

Wenwen, who sleeps beside her, had long gone to work, leaving the room with only herself.

”Oh no, oh no!”

”Zhao Junyao is still upstairs, he might starve! That fool can’t cook...”

Not daring to think too much, she hurriedly got up, washed, and rushed upstairs.

Sure enough.

As soon as the door opened, she saw Zhao Junyao sitting at the bedside with a gloomy face, staring silently out of the window.

He looked extremely unhappy.

Xia Ruqing inexplicably felt a bit guilty, she approached and said.

”Uh... hey, sorry, I woke up late, I’ll make you something to eat now!”

After speaking, she rolled up her sleeves and headed straight for the kitchen.

Zhao Junyao was even more displeased; this woman only knew how to cook noodles, and he’d been eating them for over a month now.

But thinking seriously, he’s currently living under someone else’s roof, being picky would be rude.

Never mind, he felt a bit hopeless, as long as he could fill his stomach and stay alive, that’s fine.

However, not being particular doesn’t mean he saw her in a good light.

In fact, if it were in the Great Chu Dynasty, this woman would’ve either been sentenced to death or thrown into a big prison already.

He had never seen such an unruly and coarse woman.

He finally understood what the sages meant when they said ”Only women and petty persons are hard to raise.”

...

Xia Ruqing, not being in a rush today, surprisingly didn’t make noodles for once.

She boiled two poached eggs, made two pancakes, and cooked two bowls of millet porridge, a well-balanced and nutritious meal.

However, if she knew he was grumbling about her in his heart, she might have slapped those pancakes across his face.

Zhao Junyao was still quite satisfied with this breakfast, and his opinion of her subtly improved.

But this good impression lasted less than half an hour before she...

Xia Ruqing began to do the math.

”You’ve been here for over a month, freeloading food and drink!”

”If you still can’t find your family, you can’t just keep freeloading!”

”In a few days when you’re feeling better, go help me with some work!”

After all, his wounds have healed; even if he can’t do heavy work, he can manage lighter tasks. At the very least, he can help her check on her car.

There’s no way he’ll just sit around, and of course, she won’t work him to exhaustion.

If he gets tired, wouldn’t it cost her money to treat him! She’s broke and can’t spare a penny.

Zhao Junyao: ”...”

Work? What kind of work? And what is this car checking?

He gritted his teeth in hatred; a dignified emperor, forced to live by doing manual labor—this is simply a great humiliation.

Seeing him glaring silently, Xia Ruqing domineeringly said.

”Glaring at me is useless!”

”Stay in my place, you have to listen to me!”

”A grown man, aren’t you ashamed to freeload food and drink!”

”Alright then, it’s decided!”

After she spoke, she took up the bowl and drank the last mouthful of porridge, beginning to clear the table.

Seeing Zhao Junyao not budge, she was forced to patiently urge him.

”Make way, His Majesty the Emperor!”

”I give up!”

I don’t know what exactly got hurt, his brain condition hasn’t improved at all!

Zhao Junyao was seething with anger.

From childhood to now, every woman, even those around the empress mother, which one doesn’t revolve around him?

Now being talked down by a woman, freeloading, it’s simply...

If it were in the Great Chu Dynasty, he would certainly personally send her into the Punishment Department, let her taste the Thirty-Six Tortures.

But alas...

Xia Ruqing had no time to care about his explosive expression.

She briskly cleaned the tableware and dishes, heading to the kitchen to wash them.

By the time she finished, it was nearly noon.

Having just finished breakfast, there’s no rush for lunch, she decided to go out to shop for some food and daily necessities.

”Come on, accompany me to the market to buy some things!”

This man could at least carry some stuff, a free porter shouldn’t be wasted.

Zhao Junyao couldn’t refuse and suppressed his anger, following her out the door.

The market was nearby, they went on foot.

She walked leisurely along the old city’s streets, trees lining the road thickly, the autumn breeze blowing a shallow layer of fallen leaves onto the pavement.

Treading on them, crackling underfoot.

Xia Ruqing was in high spirits, walking and stepping along the way, enjoying the release, feeling it to be very stress-relieving.

While Zhao Junyao found the person before him to be utterly childish, associating with her was simply losing face.

To this point, both of them considered the other to be crazy.

Watching his odd walking style, Xia Ruqing found it peculiar, wondering how anyone could walk like that.

It somewhat resembled how men walked in period dramas, elegant and poised, neither hurried nor slow, genteel, as graceful as the breeze.

She couldn’t help but wonder if young masters from wealthy families were becoming this retro, but it did look quite nice.

However, Zhao Junyao found much more fault with her way of walking.

No woman should take such big steps, especially an unmarried maiden, it was degrading to the family’s reputation.

A woman like this placed in the Great Chu Dynasty wouldn’t even be wanted by a peddler, marrying her would disgrace the ancestors.

...

Noticing his contemptuous expression, Xia Ruqing glared at him.

”What’s your dissatisfaction? Feel free to speak up!” I won’t change anyway!

Zhao Junyao sneered.

”I dare not!”

Xia Ruqing couldn’t help but pucker her lips.

”Emperor... you think you’re really an emperor!”

”Sigh, I just don’t get it, your brain has been checked multiple times, clearly nothing’s wrong, your speech and thoughts are clear, yet... still so crazy!”

Zhao Junyao couldn’t bear it any longer, glaring fiercely at her and roaring low.

”I’m not sick! I’ve said I’m not crazy!”

Xia Ruqing: ”...”

She appraised him up and down for a long time, recalling how he couldn’t use a toothbrush, couldn’t dress, didn’t know Renminbi, but could recognize words and understand history, his speech and actions extremely ’retro.’

She instinctively widened her eyes in shock.

”You...”

”Zhao Junyao!” she looked at him intently and in astonishment.
