Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 1388: Chapter 1390: I Want to Be the First!

Elder Yu and Mr. Wang left. Lu Xiaobu looked at the five military helicopters, and at the five young soldiers on board, who seemed relaxed but clearly had the determination to face death. He couldn’t help but feel a surge of indescribable emotion!

He knew these five young soldiers; they were students he had taught at the base.

The oldest was only two years older than him, and the youngest was just nineteen.

Yet here they were, willing to challenge something that was absolutely terrifying to them, all for his sake.

But what did it mean that these five little fellows didn’t even get off the helicopters?!

”You five!” Lu Xiaobu took a couple of steps forward, looking at these guys who were bantering over the radio, and pretended to be angry: ”What? You don’t recognize me as your instructor anymore?!”

”Hey hey, Instructor Lu, don’t be mad!”

The youngest, and the most shameless one called Xiaowu, smiled at Lu Xiaobu through the loudspeaker:

”Elder Yu already told us, we can’t leave the helicopters unless the situation is resolved! We must always stay ready for battle!”

Lu Xiaobu looked at this pimple-faced guy and jokingly scolded: ”What? You listen to him and not me, eh?”

”No, no!” Xiaowu laughed: ”We’re just worried that if we get off, you might knock us out or something! We’d be at a big loss then!”

This group knew all too well the tricks of Instructor Lu.

If he really didn’t want them to go, he could come up with a million ways to keep them there!

So they simply refused to get off the helicopters—no matter what he said!

”You little rascals!” Lu Xiaobu laughed again but then got serious: ”Take my advice, get down here. This is not something you can get involved with!”

”Instructor Lu, stop trying. We’re not coming down.”

The oldest and most steady one, who also shared Lu Xiaobu’s last name, spoke earnestly.

”Do you know what you’re up against?” Lu Xiaobu’s face was deadly serious: ”This is beyond your comprehension! Most of what you’ve learned won’t even be of use! Do you understand?!”

”We understand!” Little Lu nodded seriously: ”Instructor Lu, if anything happens, please look after our parents for us, thank you!”

After that, all five turned off their radios, and silence fell at the scene.

”Ah! What am I supposed to do with you?”

Lu Xiaobu let out a long sigh!

The favor owed now was enormous!

Whether it was to Elder Yu and the others, or to these five young guys, it was the same.

Regardless if their efforts were effective or not, it was the best help they could imagine offering.

They were even willing to pay with their lives!

Can you really disregard such a favor just because it’s ineffective?

Lu Xiaobu certainly couldn’t!

”Forget it, I’m tired of dealing with you. Just remember to eat.” Lu Xiaobu shook his head and had no choice but to leave.

As for the Five Elements Spiritual Items, he didn’t even touch them.

Elder Yu thought they might be useful to him, but he really couldn’t see what use they were.

So, they would just stay there for now.

...

Returning home again.

”Xiaobu, are you alright?” Lu Hongbin looked at Lu Xiaobu, forced a smile, and gently asked.

”Big brother, I’m fine. Don’t you know who I am?” Lu Xiaobu laughed.

”Well, if it comes to it, just run away.” Lu Hongbin forced another smile and didn’t say much more.

Lu Wenhuo gave Lu Xiaobu a glance, then lowered his head and said, ”I’ll go watch over Dad!”

With that, he turned and walked away.

Lu Hongbin smiled and followed him.

And after the two of them left the house, they walked away in silence.

Out through the front gate!

”Big brother, I’m not content!” Lu Wenhuo’s deep voice came through.

Then there was a muffled sound of a fist hitting the wall.

”Clearly, Xiaobu is the younger brother, and should be protected by us, but now we’ve become nothing but burdens to him!” Lu Wenhuo punched the wall again and again, blood flowing from his fists.

”I understand.” Lu Hongbin took out a box of cigarettes, tapped the bottom, pulled one out, lit it, and repeated, ”I understand.”

How could he not understand?!

He was the elder brother, after all!

If Wenhuo felt this way, how could he be content?!

Didn’t you notice?!

At first, watching this once clueless kid who used to tag along behind them, getting better and better, they were happy, they were excited!

Later, when Xiaobu became the pillar of the family, they were even happier and more excited!

After all, their wish had come true!

The younger brother had grown up!

But!

When this growth hit a limit, things turned around!

Because, for many things, they weren’t unaware, really!

They weren’t fools, the Lu Family had no fools!

Xiaobu didn’t want to tell them to prevent them from worrying!

They pretended not to know, smiling as if clueless, to avoid worrying Xiaobu!

But the consequence was that their communication became less and less!

Then!

What was once a joyful watching of his growth became a foreign feeling, a sense of distance!

But that could still be overlooked!

But!

Now!

When more and more people were using them as leverage to threaten Xiaobu, the discontent exploded!

They were the older brothers, they should be protecting the younger brother!

Not become Xiaobu’s burden, repeatedly forcing him to do things he didn’t want to do!

Enough!

Really, it’s enough!

”Brother, what should we do?! What should we do!” Lu Wenhuo shouted unwillingly.

But his voice wasn’t too loud for fear that Lu Xiaobu would find out!

”I heard that Xiaobu is planning something called ’Plan Martial Arts Under Heaven.’” Lu Hongbin took a deep drag of the cigarette, flicked the ash, and said.

”You mean.” Lu Wenhuo immediately understood.

Plan Martial Arts Under Heaven, that meant they could learn too!

”Yes, exactly.” Lu Hongbin nodded.

”But Xiaobu might not approve!” Lu Wenhuo was hesitant.

”I’m the big brother.” Lu Hongbin’s words were calm but undeniable: ”I should protect my family! Even if it means going to the battlefield, I should be the first to die!”

”Alright, then let’s do it! Anyway, you’re the older brother!” Lu Wenhuo nodded: ”I’ll follow your lead.”

”Then let’s go, and persuade Father together.” Lu Hongbin stubbed out the cigarette and threw it in the trash, standing up to speak.

”Let’s go.” Lu Wenhuo nodded.

The two brothers hit the road again.

As they walked, Lu Wenhuo suddenly said, ”If you’re the first to die, then what number am I?”

”The third, I suppose.” Lu Hongbin smiled: ”You know Xiaobu too well not to know that?”

”Then I’ll be the first!” Lu Wenhuo lowered his head and quickened his pace!

Lu Hongbin watched his back and smiled!
