Prodigal System in the Flourishing City

Chapter 1352: Chapter 1354: A Familiar Voice

Lu Xiaobu had rested for about six hours, and when he opened his eyes, it was already dark.

”Young Master, do you want something to eat?” Zhang Meng heard the movement, walked into the bedroom, and asked.

”I don’t have much appetite for now.” Lu Xiaobu shook his groggy head, picked up the glass of warm water on the bedside table, took a sip, and felt a bit better.

”Young Master, I briefly looked into that Shen Yu, it seems he’s the president of some chamber of commerce, knows a lot of people, and has a mine contracted in his name. He’s neither poor nor rich, in a way.”

”And the thing he likes to do the most is entertain those people coming from South Africa in the Chinese community circle, earning him some reputation.”

Zhang Meng reported, ”But all of this was gathered from the waitstaff, so its accuracy might not be very high.”

”Also, earlier he invited you to dinner, are you going?”

”Hmm. This Shen Yu does have some wits; considering the people who can come to South Africa from the Heavenly Dynasty, the probability of them being influential and powerful is indeed not low.” Lu Xiaobu rubbed his eyes, ”As for the dinner, let’s go. We won’t stay for long this time, having a guide can save us some trouble.”

Although Liang Lan can arrange some things, she is ultimately based domestically, and with matters involving such official things as minerals, it’s evidently not possible to achieve perfection.

And Shen Yu, being a local but not overly influential, seems to be a good choice for a guide.

Moreover, Shen Yu has mines himself, so he should be more familiar in this area.

So, Lu Xiaobu arrived at the private room prepared by Shen Yu.

”My friend, you’re here.” Shen Yu appeared very enthusiastic upon seeing Lu Xiaobu, ”Come, try some of the South African delicacies I specially prepared for you.”

Lu Xiaobu glanced over, indeed, there were quite a few South African delicacies.

Ostrich eggs, South African juice, farmer’s sausage, monkey gland meat, South African wine, South African abalone, etc.

Besides these, there were quite a few dishes from the Heavenly Dynasty.

Evidently, this Shen Yu was worried that Lu Xiaobu would have trouble acclimating and made these preparations specifically.

Quite considerate.

”Hmm, President Shen is very attentive.” Lu Xiaobu nodded.

Shen Yu raised his eyebrows immediately upon hearing this title.

He has been asking about me.

...

Both parties took their seats, after a few rounds of drinks and several varieties of dishes,

Lu Xiaobu began to talk business: ”President Shen, do you know what conditions are required to contract a mine?”

”Mining?” Shen Yu perked up upon hearing this, ”So you’re here to contract a mine?”

”Yes.” Lu Xiaobu nodded.

”This, it’s a bit complicated. If I were to give some advice, it’s still better not to get involved in this industry!” Shen Yu smiled bitterly.

Lu Xiaobu: ”Why is that?”

Shen Yu: ”If you had come last year, and you wanted to do it, I would definitely support you! But this year’s situation has drastically changed, to be honest, even I’m hesitant to continue!”

Lu Xiaobu: ”Oh? Tell me more.”

Shen Yu: ”Contracting a mine is actually quite easy, as long as the money is in place, it’s negotiable. The problem lies in not being able to operate it once contracted. It’s almost guaranteed to lose money!”

Lu Xiaobu: ”What do you mean by that?”

Shen Yu: ”To put it simply, people from the Underworld have taken control of these things.”

Lu Xiaobu frowned slightly: ”They have such capabilities, and the local authorities don’t manage it?”

Shen Yu: ”It’s not that they don’t manage it, but they can’t! Let me put it this way, you should know that back home, the most common trade for underworld figures is the sand and soil business, right? It’s the same rationale here.”

Lu Xiaobu: ”Got it, you mean the Underworld here controls some critical points in mining.”

Shen Yu: ”Yes, especially in machinery and transportation, it’s almost monopolized by them! They block you from the start to the end; you work for half the day just working for them!”

What Shen Yu said came straight from the heart.

After some conversation, he became more and more convinced that this young man had an extraordinary identity.

For such people, giving heartfelt advice is far more profitable than trying to deceive them in various ways.

However, after he thought he had finished speaking, the young man’s intention would surely have been dispelled.

But, he found that the young man’s eyes lit up even brighter instead.

”Where is that organization? Take me to have a look around.” Lu Xiaobu stood up and said to Shen Yu.

”What are you going to do?” Shen Yu’s heart skipped a beat, with a bad premonition.

”Nothing, just paying a visit to the mountain.” Lu Xiaobu smiled.

Hmm, paying a visit to the mountain, and maybe robbing them a bit too.

He originally intended to contract a mine and then start devouring.

But now it seems, contracting is unnecessary; since such an organization exists, it’s easier to go directly to them.

See, this is the benefit of having a local guide, saving a lot of trouble!

”Paying a visit to the mountain? Alright then.” Shen Yu smiled bitterly, ”But, let me remind you, it really might not work here, it’s different from back home.”

”Hmm, no problem.” Lu Xiaobu didn’t say much.

”Then let’s go.” Shen Yu still felt a sense of apprehension, always feeling that something might happen.

...

The group left the restaurant and soon arrived at the entrance of a casino.

”Is it here?” Lu Xiaobu asked.

”No, someone at my level can’t find them. I need to take you to someone within our Chinese circle who can speak with them.” Shen Yu explained, ”It’s that relative of Lu Xiaobu I mentioned to you earlier.”

”Wow, that’s complicated.” Lu Xiaobu rolled his eyes, ”But that’s alright, I’m quite interested in that relative too.”

Using his name to swindle and deceive people, never mind; at least, he has some guts.

And another question is how he managed to gain the trust of all these Chinese people.

After all, none of them are fools!

The group entered the casino.

Can’t deny that Shen Yu does have some face, knowing that Shen Yu wanted to meet that relative, they were quickly invited into a waiting room.

”Speak with a bit more caution, it’s not like back home here, better to be restrained.” Shen Yu hesitated for a moment but still reminded Lu Xiaobu, ”After all, carrying guns here is legal.”

He still remembered the earlier scene during the day when Lu Xiaobu almost got into it with those two black policemen.

Initially, he didn’t plan on reminding him, thinking he’d understand after a couple of days here.

But, ended up muddling here without time for clarity, so he mentioned it once.

If they acted on impulse and got into a fight, getting shot would truly become troublesome!

”I know.” Lu Xiaobu nodded.

He had just noticed, people here almost all had bulging waists.

If it was the first time somebody went international to a place like this, they’d probably be scared.

When does an average person get the chance to see so many guns in their lifetime?

They were waiting when a voice came over: ”Old Shen Yu, what brings you to my place today? Can’t leave until you’re drunk!”

Hearing this voice, Shen Yu immediately stood up and showed great respect.

However, Lu Xiaobu frowned a bit: ”Why does this voice sound familiar?
