Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Just in Case

Looking at the car speeding crazily ahead, Zhang Yiming instinctively rubbed his temples.

Zombies really give headaches.

After the car disappeared from sight, Zhang Yiming finally looked at his injured right hand.

A finger on his right hand was limply dangling, with a piece showing white bone, and black blood was seeping out.

Zhang Yiming shoved the bruise medicine into his pocket, pressing a few spots on his body with his left hand.

The rib area was soft, likely a few ribs were broken.

Yet, Zhang Yiming didn’t feel any pain at all.

With a detached expression, Zhang Yiming sat on the motorcycle, holding the motorcycle with one hand and gripping the crystal core with the other, proceeding nonchalantly toward the safety base.

As the crystal core gradually dimmed, Zhang Yiming’s injured finger healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.

His destination was also in the direction of the safety base, but he deliberately took another route.

A flashy motorcycle sped wildly down the road.

On the back seat, a young man with black blood, wearing a cold expression, rode the motorcycle.

After a short while, a crystal core without any superpower energy was carelessly discarded by him on the road.

As the crystal core hit the ground, it instantly turned to powder, fluttering away with the wind.

The injury had completely healed, and under the moonlight, the fingers appeared even more pale.

Once the young man neared the safety base, he headed first to a small clothing store.

The store was in disarray, clothes strewn haphazardly on the floor.

Zhang Yiming walked into the clothing store, and when he came out, he had already changed out of his clothes stained with black blood.

Zhang Yiming’s sharp eyes swept across the surroundings and spotted a zombie crouching in a corner.

Zhang Yiming stood still, his dark eyes fixated on the zombie.

The zombie trembled slightly, a dull face devoid of any sound, motionless.

After staring for a while, Zhang Yiming got the answer he wanted and set off in a certain direction.

The zombie that had been trembling just moments before resumed wandering aimlessly after Zhang Yiming left.

It seemed that the earlier fear was nothing but an illusion.

Zhang Yiming headed towards an abandoned residential house adjacent to the Fire Phoenix Safety Base.

The area around the house was messy, with leaves and various trash piled up on the ground, and a thick layer of dust covering the ground.

Occasionally, a footprint could be seen, identifiable as a zombie’s footprint, with traces of black blood on it.

A decayed scent emanated from the black footprints.

Zhang Yiming squatted down, his slender fingers touching the black footprints.

The black blood had some that had dried long ago, and some fresh with a bit of stickiness.

The only common point was that all footprints only had entries, with no exits.

Zhang Yiming squinted his eyes, looking at the abandoned residential house before him.

It was a three-story small building, all its windows were plastered inside with newspaper, a pervasive sense of decay everywhere.

Zhang Yiming lifted his foot, ready to enter.

Suddenly, he heard the roar of a car engine.

His body tensed slightly.

This damned sound, wasn’t it Bai Yifan’s driving sound!

Zhang Yiming leapt, displaying amazing jumping power, and quickly hid in an adjacent, dilapidated two-story building by the abandoned house.

He stood quietly inside, motionless, without making any sound.

Not even a sound of breathing or heartbeat.

Inside the entire house, there wasn’t a single living being.

Through the window, the car stopped in front of the abandoned house.

Inside the car.

Qin Yuan inhaled and exhaled heavily.

”Master, master, that ant queen should be here, based on the scent, it should be on the third floor.”

Qin Yuan’s black nose twitched, once confirmed, it lay motionless on Bai Xiqin’s shoulder.

All along the way, it had been following the scent, feeling that the ant queen’s aroma was ingrained in its mind, nearly forgetting all other scents.

”Alright, thank you for your help this time!”

Bai Xiqin reached out and lightly patted Qin Yuan, just as Qin Yuan was moved to tears, ready to say a bunch of formal words.

Bai Xiqin put it into the space.

The three of them got out of the car, half-squatting in front of the abandoned three-story building.

The black footprints drew their attention.

”Sis, why would zombies walk inside? There shouldn’t be anyone in there, right?”

Bai Yifan frowned at the black footprints.

Zombies were always in a state of decay, black blood seemed like it would never stop flowing, seeping daily.

However, not all zombies would leave a black footprint with every step.

Only severely injured zombies would bleed black blood so heavily.

”These footprints don’t lead outside,” Leng Yebai said.

This suggests that the zombies inside were either eaten by the ant queen or were still inside.

Bai Xiqin scratched the head, slightly puzzled.

The ant queen and those worker ants shouldn’t have the ability to coax zombies obediently inside.

But judging by the footprints, it seemed like the zombies indeed walked inside on their own.

”Let’s go, have a look inside.”

Unable to figure it out, Bai Xiqin decided to go in and take a look.

This is what it means to be brave through skill.

Even if every window was filled with mutant ants, she could still retreat safely.

”Hey, hey, hey, let’s wait until daylight before we go!” Bai Yifan timidly pulled on Bai Xiqin.

The deserted three-story building appeared ghostly under the moonlight, making Bai Yifan feel apprehensive.

”The matter of the ant queen can’t be delayed for a moment.”

Bai Xiqin glanced at the safety base just one wall away, then at the abandoned building with windows covered in newspaper.

Is this a natural disaster or a man-made calamity?

An ant queen can lay tens of thousands of eggs in a day.

If not dealt with promptly, any leftover ant eggs could easily constitute a hidden danger for the next outbreak of ant swarms.

Most importantly, the crystal core inside the ant queen is very rare, being of the fifth rank.

It can’t be missed.

”But we also can’t just go in directly!” Bai Yifan whispered, looking at the covered windows, ”What if there are zombies inside! Zombies don’t breathe, there might be zombies watching us from somewhere else!”

Zhang Yiming: ...

”You’re making it sound so real!” Bai Xiqin curled her lips, ”If you’re scared, just say so!”

”Big sis, I’m not being cowardly, I’m just reasoning a possibility. What if the subordinates of the zombie boss are here, and the zombie boss comes looking, it would be awkward if we encounter each other.”

Bai Yifan pressed on imaginary glasses, donning the air of a detective.

”Where? Where? How come I don’t see it!” Bai Xiqin spread her hands.

Bai Yifan looked around, pointing at the next-door abandoned two-story building, ”What if the zombie boss is hiding there? What if?”

”No ’what if’, if there is, I’ll wash my hair standing on my head!”

Bai Xiqin’s voice was powerful and resonant.

Zhang Yiming: ...

Zhang Yiming cast a quiet glance at Bai Xiqin’s dark hair, a bit concerned for her.

Such long hair, washing it upside down should be quite difficult.

”But, we should still probe a bit, just in case there really are zombies inside.”

Bai Yifan, knowing he was making it up, acknowledged the slim possibility, but he was just scared.

”That’s easy!”

Bai Xiqin calmly took out a mobile phone from her pocket, lacking network signal, the phone could still play music besides being a brick.

”Good fortune comes! Wishing you good fortune! Good fortune brings joy and love...”

Cheerful music emanated from the phone.

Bai Yifan suddenly had an illusion, thinking he was shopping for New Year’s goods at a big mall.
