Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Choice

Three hours later, the group arrived in front of an abandoned factory.

The abandoned factory was empty, silent as ever.

”Your grandpa doesn’t come back during the day; he probably went out looking for you. He’ll be back in the evening.”

Zhang Yiming glanced at Fan Tangtang, his voice gentle.

”Mm-hmm, okay, Tangtang will just wait here for Grandpa.”

Fan Tangtang nodded like a woodpecker.

Brother Zhang didn’t seem tired, yet exerted a constant pressure on him the whole way.

Oh, heavens!

He really didn’t know how he had offended Brother Zhang!

Could it be that he complained about Brother Zhang to his grandpa in private, and somehow he found out?

Bai Xiqin cast a glance at the empty abandoned factory and asked, ”How many people usually live here?”

”Initially, quite a few. Now it should just be Fan Tangtang and his grandpa, everyone else went to the safety base.” Zhang Yiming replied calmly, ”If Tangtang is scared, he can also go to the safety base, it’s safer there.”

”No, no need.” Fan Tangtang pressed his thin lips together, silently holding his parents’ hands.

He felt he might never grow taller.

Brother Zhang’s oppressive presence was too powerful, unsettling him inexplicably.

Ever since he crawled out of the ground, he rarely felt such fear.

Only around Brother Zhang, every time he saw him, his aura filled him with dread.

Bai Xiqin carefully inspected the abandoned factory. After confirming no one else lived there, he sighed lightly in relief.

It’s fine, the Fan family could stay here temporarily; at least the place was spacious, making it easier to escape if the safety base’s Superpower Users discovered them.

Zhang Yiming quietly glanced at Leng Yebai.

The people are delivered, isn’t it time for them to leave?

The longer they stayed here, the greater the chance of exposure.

Leng Yebai stood calmly by Zhang Yiming’s side, his fingers slightly rubbing together.

Like counting money.

The Crystal Cores haven’t been given yet, can’t leave, who knows who to ask for Crystal Cores afterward?

Zhang Yiming’s forehead veins twitched. Seizing the moment Bai Xiqin’s eyes were averted toward the factory, he stealthily pulled a small pouch of Crystal Cores from his pocket, quietly handing it to Leng Yebai.

Lucky he knew Leng Yebai’s way and carried Crystal Cores with him.

Leng Yebai placed them into his pocket, touching each one with his fingers.

Only eight Crystal Cores.

Counting the previous deposit of one Crystal Core, he was still short by one.

Leng Yebai’s serious face furrowed his brows, blinking hard at Zhang Yiming.

The deceased buddies are rescued for you, and you’re still holding back a Crystal Core?

Zhang Yiming maintained a faint smile.

Heh, Xiao Niu almost discovered his identity; he had to dock a Crystal Core!

Leng Yebai pressed his thin lips together, unacceptable.

Must give!

Can’t let Xiao Niu lose a Fourth Rank Crystal Core!

Zhang Yiming turned his head, pretending not to see.

This was intending to default.

”Xiao Niu, are you hungry? Let’s eat before heading back!” Leng Yebai calmly rubbed his stomach, ”I’m a bit hungry.”

”Sure.”

Bai Xiqin glanced at the sun; it was already noon, indeed time to eat.

Zhang Yiming’s face momentarily froze, looking at Leng Yebai with a half-smile.

Is this guy brain-dead?

Would normal people dare to dine alongside two Zombie Kings?

Leng Yebai expressionlessly rubbed his fingers at Zhang Yiming.

Boy, still missing one Crystal Core!

Zhang Yiming gritted his teeth.

F, M, L.

He should have stormed in with a group of zombie lackeys to drag Fan Tangtang out initially.

Or, perhaps this child wasn’t needed at all!

Also, save having to negotiate with this guy!

Bai Xiqin thinking that the Fan family was here for the first time, with no supplies, certainly couldn’t eat properly for lunch.

Suggesting everyone eat together.

Since Bai Xiqin agreed, Zhang Yiming couldn’t refuse and had to go out with Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai to look for food.

While out foraging, Zhang Yiming retrieved a Crystal Core, grudgingly placing it in Leng Yebai’s hand.

Leng Yebai’s mouth slightly curled, placing all the Crystal Cores into his pocket.

Xiao Niu instantly gained nine Fourth Rank Crystal Cores!

Happy for Xiao Niu.

Fan Tangtang and the Fan family stayed in the abandoned factory, waiting for them to return with food.

Before their return, the Fan family still had many questions for Fan Tangtang.

For instance, the grandpa Fan Tangtang referred to.

Once Zhang Yiming left, Fan Tangtang immediately became more lively, happily holding Hu Meiling and Fan Liping’s hands, jumping around.

”Tangtang, the ’grandpa’ you mentioned earlier, which grandpa is that?” Fan Liping gazed intently at Fan Tangtang, a slight glimmer of hope in his eyes.

If his father and Tangtang had both become special zombies.

Then, the apocalypse was treating his family too kindly.

This was indeed another form of reunion.

”Tangtang only has one grandpa!” Fan Tangtang blinked, starting to tell his story, ”After I crawled out, I saw grandpa wandering in our house, confused. I thought it was Alzheimer’s! In our kindergarten, Langlang’s grandpa has Alzheimer’s...”

Fan Liping and Hu Meiling held hands tightly, a touch of sadness on their faces.

Tangtang was really too young; he couldn’t even distinguish between zombies and humans.

Thank goodness, thank goodness.

Now their family could be considered reunited, and from now on, they must protect him well.

”Grandpa and I waited at home for a long time, but dad and mom didn’t come back, so we wandered around, found many places, and encountered the mighty Brother Zhang...”

Fan Tangtang recounted his experiences one step at a time, his small head tilted up as he did.

Fan Liping and his wife exchanged glances, seeing the shock in each other’s eyes.

According to Tangtang’s account, that gentle and sunny young man was also... a zombie.

Beyond shock, they also felt slightly relieved.

They feared the world might have only Tangtang as a special zombie; if Tangtang had no kind, it certainly wouldn’t be a good thing.

With chilling bodies, Fan Liping and Hu Meiling decided for Tangtang’s sake, as long as Zhang Yiming wasn’t disdainful, they would continue following him.

Only this way could Tangtang and his father avoid being eliminated by those righteous Superpower Users.

Half an hour later.

The three who went to look for supplies returned.

Zhang Yiming had some tableware and pots and some vacuum-packed food on his cool motorcycle.

Clank, clank.

The presence of pots and tableware made the cool motorcycle appear somewhat uncouth.

The group made their way into the abandoned factory, setting up a pot to prepare a simple hotpot meal.

The Fan family noticed Zhang Yiming’s warm demeanor, their eyes flickering.

Pretending not to notice, they pulled Fan Tangtang to help organize things.

Since Tangtang and his father were zombies, and zombies weren’t all bloodthirsty monsters, they chose to align with the zombies!

It was all for Tangtang and his father.

The family should be together.

For them, aligning with zombies didn’t feel like betraying humanity.

They simply chose their family.

Zhang Yiming noticed the Fan couple’s slightly trembling fingers, knowing they might have learned his identity.

Glancing at Fan Tangtang nestled with the Fan couple, Zhang Yiming’s eyes dimmed considerably.

Not all parents would reject their child, even as a zombie.

Though long emotionless as a zombie, a trace of bitterness welled within Zhang Yiming.

Love, familial bonds, friendships, all were elusive dreams for him.

”Xiao Ming, why are you still standing there, time to eat!”

Bai Xiqin called out, setting dishes and waving towards Zhang Yiming.

That smile, incredibly pure, was the light he wanted to protect forever.

”Okay.”

With a smile on his face, the gloominess in Zhang Yiming’s heart vanished.
