Time Travel: The Best Doctor in Ancient Times

Chapter 961: Chapter 2911

“You’re wrong!” Gu Changsheng chuckled softly upon hearing this, leaned back slowly against the chair, and said, “Do you think your mother, with a frail and bedridden body for so many years, managed to be the Queen of the Mermaid People just by being passive?”

Gu Changsheng sneered and said, “You underestimate your mother and the covetous hearts of those around her for the throne!”

“!!!” Yushu was stunned upon hearing Gu Changsheng’s words. “What do you mean by that?”

Don’t blame Yushu for asking!

Yushu really didn’t understand what Gu Changsheng meant…

In Yushu’s mind, her mother was always frail and sick, bedridden, while the affairs of the Mermaid People mostly depended on the Elders of the Elders Council…

So…

Yushu felt that Gu Changsheng’s words were too subversive, at least for her, too subversive!

“I know the Fish Clan respects lineage, it’s ingrained deep within their soul. However, power always makes people forget their nature; it always changes many things, especially the lofty throne, which is something countless people covet. If not, your sister Skate wouldn’t take such a huge risk to frame you, right?” Gu Changsheng sneered and said slowly, “Skate’s actions are the best illustration of how power can captivate the heart, yet your mother managed to maintain her position strong as a fortress while bedridden. Do you really think your mother is so worthless as you thought? Or do you think those around your mother have no desire for the throne at all?”

“…” Yushu was silent in shock upon hearing these words.

“It’s not that they have no desire, but even if they do, they fear your mother’s presence, fear her strength!” Gu Changsheng looked at Yushu and said slowly, “So now, write to your mother and tell her the truth. Trust me, as long as your letter reaches the Royal City, your mother will have the ability to see it! You think your sister Skate already has everything under control, but little do you know, your mother is the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. She’s merely observing, watching this unexpected internal war within the Mermaid People, observing what kind of ending it will have, observing which of her two daughters can be trusted!”

“But… but… mother…” Yushu was disoriented upon hearing this…

To be honest, when Skate made trouble for her, when she went through life and death situations, Yushu often worried about her mother’s safety…

But now, Gu Changsheng was telling her that her worries were redundant?

Telling her that her mother was actually very strong…

Stronger than she could imagine?

“No… it can’t be! It can’t be like this! Mother is indeed frail, mother has been bedridden for years, if she had the ability, she definitely wouldn’t sit back while Skate framed me, wouldn’t sit back while I was almost killed so many times…” Shaking her head vigorously, Yushu refused to believe everything Gu Changsheng said was true, “My mother loves me, if she had the ability, she wouldn’t let things evolve to this point, you must be wrong, you must be wrong…”

Mother…

That was the last line of defense in Yushu’s heart…

Her belief and faith…

But today, Gu Changsheng told Yushu that her faith wasn’t as she understood it, how could Yushu accept it so quickly?

“Sigh…” Baby saw this and patted Yushu’s shoulder sympathetically, “I may not fully understand how you feel now, but I can only tell you, what my mother says is always right because my mom has never made a wrong judgment!”

If there’s anyone in the world who trusts Gu Changsheng most, it’s definitely Baby and Beibei…

When Baby said this, he genuinely felt sorry for Yushu…

Click click…

The child abandoned by his own mother…

Looks so pitiful…

“No! It can’t be! It can’t be like this! It can’t…” Yushu shook her head upon hearing this…

“Whether it is or not, you only need to write the letter and send it to the Imperial Capital to find out!” Gu Changsheng shrugged nonchalantly upon hearing this and looked at Yushu, “I understand how you feel now, helpless, confused, uneasy… but some things, you have to face eventually, right?”

“But… mother loves me! If mother had the ability, she wouldn’t just watch me almost die!” Yushu looked up upon hearing this, her eyes already misted with tears, yet this time, she couldn’t cry…

Mermaid People can only shed tears once in their life…

And Yushu…

Had already cried!

She was already a mermaid who had shed tears, and would never again have the chance to cry a second time!

“If, if it’s really like you said, and my mother has that ability, and I… and I really died because of Skate’s framing and pursuit? If I really died, what would my mother do?” Yushu looked at Gu Changsheng with big, helpless eyes…

“If that were really the case, then it’s meant to be, your mother would be sad, might be upset, but she would definitely not clear your name. Even if she knew you were innocent, even if she knew you hadn’t rebelled, she wouldn’t clear your name because you would already be dead. And Skate, no matter what she did, would still be your mother’s daughter, her only remaining daughter! Skate would ascend the throne, for your mother has no other choice! To legitimise Skate’s ascension, to keep your Fish Clan as rulers of the Mermaid People, your mother might even affirm your charges, proclaiming to the entire Mermaid People that you did indeed rebel, and were treasonous…” Gu Changsheng said slowly, looking at Yushu…

“No! Impossible! Mother couldn’t do that! She can’t…” Upon hearing this, Yushu shook her head immediately, her face in disbelief and despairing…

“Actually, you know your mother would do that, don’t you?” Gu Changsheng shrugged, looking at Yushu, “Because, other than being your mother, she is also the Queen of the Mermaid People! To be a ruler, one must endure what ordinary people cannot endure to gain what ordinary people cannot gain! Standing at the peak of power, holding all power, that’s a price that must be paid; sometimes, family, loved ones, love… these are all sacrifices that must be made! So, you needn’t be sad because when the day comes that you become king, you’ll understand, for a king, one’s own life or death, that of their loved ones’, is not that important. There are more, more important things they must guard…”

“No! No! I don’t want to understand! I never want to understand! I don’t want to become king, nor do I want to understand those things… I don’t want to be a sacrifice, nor do I want to sacrifice others, I just want to be a happy lord of East County, watching my people at peace, that’s enough for me…” Yushu said, nearly collapsing, covering her face with her hands…

No tears…

A mermaid without tears…

Even if it’s painful, no one can feel her true sorrow…

Because…

Having lost the right to cry, your sorrow will go ununderstood by anyone…

Although sometimes tears are the most useless thing!

“You don’t want to? Sometimes the world forces you to want! As the saying goes, ‘the tree wants to be still, but the wind doesn’t stop’… that’s just the truth…” Gu Changsheng said, getting up slowly, as he pulled Xuanyuan Mu along, heading out, “I’ve heard the walls of the Crystal Palace are made entirely of crystal, I haven’t seen it before, and I’m quite curious, let’s go dig around the palace walls together…”

“…” Upon hearing this, Xuanyuan Mu’s mouth twitched imperceptibly, finally responding helplessly, “Alright!”

Heaven knows…

Watching Gu Changsheng just seconds ago discussing the major wars of the Mermaid People with Yushu, in such a strategic manner, commanding and influential, and the next second turning into another demeanor entirely…

For Xuanyuan Mu, it’s nothing short of overturning expectations…

But…

When it happens enough times…

Xuanyuan Mu just…

Gradually gets used to it…

Ahem!

Indeed!

Just gradually gets used to it!

“Ugh, so scary! Your mother is so scary! How can she say such cruel things so nonchalantly? How could she say such cruel words…” Seeing Gu Changsheng and Xuanyuan Mu leave, Yushu couldn’t help looking towards Baby and Beibei for help, and said.

“Um… my mother’s words are indeed a bit cruel, but aren’t they all true?” Baby said, awkwardly rubbing his nose and looking at Yushu with great sympathy, “Now, I can understand your reluctance to be king, understand your initial feelings about the pros and cons of being king, because, it’s precisely because of my mother’s words that Beibei and I are determined not to be king!”

“Really?” Yushu lifted her head upon hearing this.

“Of course it’s true! Why do you think my mother understands these things? What do you think her identity is?” Baby shrugged, “My mother is a queen too, our family has an entire kingdom waiting for someone to inherit, so you’d better believe what my mother says, for no one understands the throne and power better than she does, and no one is more qualified to tell you these things…”

“…” Upon hearing this, Yushu was left dumbfounded…
