Chapter 951: Chapter 757: The Betrothal Ceremony

That person is none other than Lady Changsheng!

But, with the wedding date to be officially announced at tomorrow’s marriage proposal ceremony, why does our master still toss and turn over Lady Changsheng?

Could it be that there’s still some variable in this marriage?

Thinking of this, Yuan Bao couldn’t help but shake his head, silently cursing his own overthinking.

This is a national marriage, a major event between two nations. With both sides in agreement and consensus reached, it’s a once-in-a-millennium auspicious match!

Surely nothing will go wrong!

Yuan Bao shrugged off his worries and hurried to sleep. He needed to be in his best form for tomorrow’s marriage proposal ceremony!

…

The next day, as the sky lightened, the entire Capital City was already bustling.

Although the matter of the Southern Emperor and the Crown Prince’s proposal ceremony was only finalized last evening, it couldn’t conceal the city’s people’s attention!

Before dawn fully broke, members of the Zhou Imperial Clan had already gathered in the ancestral temple, where the ceremonial music and rituals echoed in the vast Nine-Layer Palace ancestral sanctuary. Then at the Imperial Court, the Minister of Rites, having concluded court affairs, led the civil and military officials towards the Zhou Family’s ancestral temple.

The Imperial Family taking a wife, and for the next clan matriarch no less, is a grand affair. In normal circumstances, for a clan marriage proposal, it would proceed from the Imperial Palace, which is already respectable. But this time, it’s from the ancestral temple!

This shows Great Zhou’s solemnity regarding the marriage of Zhou Mu and Gu Changsheng!

Piles of red cloth-wrapped embroidered writings and auspicious items symbolizing joy were held by the clan’s Madams in a dazzling display.

While people at the ancestral temple were yet to act on the marriage proposal date, on the other side, hundreds of Imperial Forest Army soldiers, having changed from their General’s Robes to red attire, bearing the Big Dipper, exited the ancestral temple!

“The Wedding Money for the proposal day is here…”

“The Wedding Money for the proposal day is here…”

“…”

Red string-tied Copper Coins were scattered on both sides of the road, prompting countless commoners to push and jostle in a frenzy.

The proposal day Wedding Money!

The Imperial Family’s Wedding Money, dinero from two Imperial Families, a rare scene in hundreds or thousands of years! How could one not try to catch some luck!

The bustling Capital City was filled with faces of joy.

“Proposal day, proposal day, propose a day to feast, after three and a half rounds of drinks, wear the bridal gown on the auspicious day! Proposal day, proposal day…”

Several young children who found Wedding Money joyfully circled singing the proposal day nursery rhyme.

“Proposal day, proposal day, propose a day for weaving bridal clothes, weave the red silk bridal dress, become the bride on the auspicious day! Proposal day, proposal day…”

Countless people stood on either side of the street, watching those dressed in festive clothes from the ancestral temple make their way along Vermilion Bird Avenue towards the Heavenly Palace.

Those were the members of the Great Zhou Imperial Clan, along with officials there to witness!

The proposal day’s ceremony, by noon today, when all is complete, the wedding date will be announced to the world, waiting for family and friends to come congratulate on the selected day!

This truly is an event for celebration across the land!

Inside the Heavenly Palace, all the Female Officials were prepared, bustling non-stop, except for one person, who was idly unoccupied.

That person was Gu Changsheng!

On this proposal day, freely entertaining guests in the main hall, accompanied by relatives, for the bride-pride ceremony, she needed to appear alongside Zhou Mu for the two families to meet. But when it came to this proposal ceremony, she didn’t need to make an appearance at all!

A marriage is a significant affair; arranged by parents and matchmakers’ words; at this point, all she needed to do was as the nursery rhyme sang, to peacefully weave her bridal garments in her chamber, and become the bride on the auspicious day!

In the grand reception hall upfront, Gu Taitian and Mr. Ban Shan, along with Yue Xilou, were all pulled to accompany the guests, all of them busy to the point of being overwhelmed, just to ensure today’s ceremony was complete!

Everyone was busy, except for Han Qiu and Xiao Cui, who were left to attend to Gu Changsheng, away from the upfront hubbub, making this place extraordinarily quiet.

This quietness, however, had a tinge of eeriness!

Han Qiu and Xiao Cui, gazing at the person sitting leisurely, self-serving drinks on the divan, exchanged glances, each feeling a vague unease in their hearts.

“I hope I’m just overthinking.” Xiao Cui sniffled and muttered.

Han Qiu immediately rolled her eyes in response.

Finally, Gu Changsheng put down the wine cup in her hand and beckoned to them.

“Would you go and bring the evildoer to see me, all right?” With a tinge of wine, her face slightly flushed, Gu Changsheng muttered.

“Huh?” Xiao Cui was taken aback, then frowned, “My Lady, this doesn’t seem right. Today is proposal day, and according to tradition, neither you nor the Son-in-law should make an appearance. You should each be in your respective homes waiting for the elders upfront to make the final decision, confirm the wedding date, and inform the family and friends…”
