Chapter 952: Chapter 757: The Betrothal Ceremony (Part 2)

“We keep it discreet, we only meet in private…” Gu Changsheng murmured, supporting her body as she rose from her step, though she had drunk several cups of wine, her figure seemed somewhat unstable.

“Mistress!” Xiao Cui wanted to help, but was waved away by her mistress.

“Go, go find her to meet me, I’ll wait for her in father’s side hall…” Gu Changsheng waved her hand, then staggered towards the palace where her father lived.

The trailing red skirt swept the ground, scattering in pieces, like radiant red flowers blooming under the scorching sun.

The Bell Ancient Music played continuously in the front, while the back hall of the Heavenly Palace was silent, even the patrolling Female Officials, busy in the front, made the rear Gong Que appear deserted.

Today was the big day when the evildoer’s family came to ask for the marriage date, her father had gone to the front early to make arrangements, even though she had arranged the night banquet for that day, hoping the officials of Great Zhou would accept this Coffin, her father still hadn’t brought this Coffin along to the ceremony…

For the family banquet, the Coffin could be present, but for matters concerning her marriage, her father absolutely wouldn’t allow any hint of inauspiciousness!

Not even the Coffin holding her late mother!

That father who was wholeheartedly only thinking of her and not himself, Gu Changsheng really didn’t know what to say!

Zhou Mu, led by Han Qiu and Xiao Cui, stepped into the side hall as Gu Changsheng lay atop a Coffin, tear-eyed, hiccupping from wine…

Knowing who lay inside the Coffin, Zhou Mu intended to bow and pay respects but was interrupted by Gu Changsheng.

“Evildoer, come here, all those ceremonial gestures, you can pretend in front of my father but here there’s no one else…” Gu Changsheng said while beckoning Zhou Mu over.

Zhou Mu hearing this, smirked at the corners of his mouth, took a long stride, and headed up the steps to the Coffin, sitting next to Gu Changsheng.

The tears on her face still lingered, Gu Changsheng showed Zhou Mu a big smile, her body half-lying on the Coffin, smiling red-faced under the influence of wine, “Evildoer, is it lively in front?”

“Lively.” Zhou Mu nodded affirmatively.

The sound of Bell Ancient Music from the front could be heard even here, proving the liveliness.

“Yes, it’s so lively in front, yet here it’s so quiet, if we didn’t come, my mother wouldn’t know today we announced to the world we’ve set the wedding date…” Gu Changsheng still smiled softly, but there was a hint of sorrow in her eyes, “Evildoer, my mother is dead, she lies in here, cold and perhaps just bones remaining…”

“Evildoer, did you know, when I was little, I fought with other children, they all said I was a wild child with a mother who gave birth but didn’t raise me, then I fought and fought with them, even if it hurt, I’d fight till I won! But I had a mother, didn’t I, I had a father and a mother, both parents, it’s just that when they knew my life would be short, they died to save me…”

Zhou Mu looked at the little woman in front of him, tears flowing uncontrollably, gently wiped the tears from her cheek, his face like that of the Divine Residence, full of affection and heartache, but did not speak to interrupt.

“Evildoer, did you know, my grandfather told me my father was a master of Mysticism, versed in ancient and modern knowledge, so I went to study, I never saw what my father looked like, but I wanted to be like him, yet I wasn’t capable enough, I read thousands of books, yet achieved nothing! I couldn’t find any trace of my father or mother!”

“Then I studied medicine, inherited my grandfather’s mantle, joined the army, I earned merits on the battlefield, got the rank of Major General, but I’m not happy, I don’t know what happiness is, I don’t even know what I’m seeking…”

“Then I died, came here! Now I am someone without a father and mother, an Abandoned Wife, rejected by the world, I don’t care how the world sees me, I never put it in my eyes, yet, I still have no parents, in both lifetimes, I never met anyone who bore and raised me! Even if they were bad, at least let me meet someone! I’m actually angry! Truly angry!”

Upon saying this, Gu Changsheng climbed up from the Coffin, waved her wide crimson sleeves, and shouted hoarsely, “I, Gu Changsheng, such a proud and assertive person, so strong-willed! I have unmatched wisdom, I am unruly and free-spirited, whatever I want to do, I surely can! If I want wealth and status, I can obtain them effortlessly, if I want fame across the world, then the people shall remember my name Changsheng, I am a child that my grandfather nurtured with all his military merits and efforts, even without a father and mother, I can stand proudly in the world, despising everyone!”

“But why don’t I have parents? Others have them, why don’t I? I used to hate them, hate them for pursuing dreams and exploring tombs, hate them for not giving me a childhood like other children, but then, I realized I was wrong…”

At this point, Gu Changsheng staggered down on the ground, pointed at the commotion ahead, and whispered hoarsely, “Evildoer, do you hear it? All those people in front, speaking words of congratulations, but do you know how hard my father’s coping is? Do you know how stiff his smile is?”

“The invitation stamp your family sent over, it was meant for my mother to personally receive it, then accept it with a smile, the female guests from your family, my mother was supposed to entertain them, but now, who’s standing in front? Hongfu Su? Hongyan Jiaojiao? Who are they? Former ministers of the Southern Country? But what have they to do with me?”

Saying this, Gu Changsheng lay on the ground, crying without words, “I originally thought they didn’t love me, that’s why they abandoned me, but I was wrong, they loved me, yet left because of me! Evildoer, I can’t accept it! I can’t! My grandfather is in another world, yet he’s living well, being cared for, with retired officials keeping him company, but what about my mother? She’s just lying here, through two lifetimes, in her most beautiful years, her beauty turned bones, all because of me, the unfilial daughter!”
